More than good food! Neighborhood histories, too.
    1) The food was great. The tour included sampling smoked meat at Montreal’s two famous delicatessens (Lester’s and Schwartz’s) and two famous Montreal-style bagel bakers (St-Viateur Bagel and Fairmount Bagel). The tastings provided comparisons between the delicatessens and bagel bakeries. (I liked Schwart’s smoked meat better and St-Viateur’s bagels better.) The chocolate Babka was amazing. (2) Besides the food tastings, our guide (Mélissa) provided detailed descriptions of the ethnic and cultural histories of each neighborhood we visited. She also pointed out significant architecture. (3) She arrived on time, spoke clearly, answered questions, was well organized, and is friendly.

    Fun and delicious!
This tour was excellent! Our guide, Melissa was beyond knowledgeable and passionate about food and all things in Montreal. It was like a super fun one day graduate level course which we will remember for a long time!

A MUST DO EXPERIENCE YOU WONT REGRET
This was the highlight of our trip! We did a private tour for 2 couples, and fantastic doesn’t even begin to describe it. Our walking food tour along St. Laurent Blvd with Melissa was outstanding! Melissa’s deep knowledge of the history and cultural highlights of each neighborhood made the tour so much more than just tasting food—it was a true journey through Montreal’s diverse heritage. From Chinese to Jewish, Portuguese to Italian, and of course the iconic foods of Montreal, every dish was a perfect reflection of the community it represented. Ending at Jean Talon Market was the cherry on top! Melissa's passion, storytelling, and delicious recommendations made this tour unforgettable. A must for food lovers and history buffs alike! My tip is to skip breakfast because Mélissa does not disappoint in making sure you leave perfectly satisfied.

A must do when in Montreal !!
This tour was so amazing and fun. Do not eat before you come !!! You get to taste some of the best food Montréal offers. Francis was so friendly, warm and so knowledgeable!! I would suggest tour be shorter. Also 3 smoked meat stops is too much. Yet all in all this was a great and fun tour

A unique way to learn about the history and culinary contributions of Montreal's Jewish population
Frances guided us through an extensive tour of Montreal's old Jewish neighborhoods and eateries. Everyone who visits Montreal gets to Schwartz's and either Fairmount or St. Viateur Bagels, but this tour will take you beyond those stand-bys to places like Wilensky's Light Lunch, Lester's Deli and Falafel Yoni that you'd be unlikely to visit without a professional guide. The food was beyond plentiful--in fact, the servings are huge! Round Table Tours thoughtfully provides you with a canvas tote bag to carry your leftovers, which you WILL have...there's no way most people could consume that much food over the span of four hours. For example, each person got three full meat sandwiches (two enormous smoked meat sandwiches plus a Wilensky's Special), two bagels, a full falafel pita, and more. Don't eat before the tour, and pace yourself during it so that you have room to try everything. We would rate this tour "very good" rather than "great" for two reasons. One was that Frances, while very knowledgeable most of the time, sprinkled in a few too many personal stories and opinions that were completely irrelevant to the subject matter of the tour. We thought this was less polished than some other tours we've been on, but I overheard comments from others on our tour that were more negative. She also tended to talk too quickly, sometimes presenting information when some people on the tour (there were 10 on ours) were not within earshot. And there were occasions when she simply didn't have facts at hand, like when she pointed out a mural of a man in Little Portugal but couldn't remember who he was or why he was important (so why point him out?), or when she was showing photos of historical figures but didn't know who some of them were. She was still very good--just not among the best walking tour guides we've had. The second reason for the "very good" rating is that the tour is just a bit too long. At four hours and more than four miles of walking (including getting to and from the tour), we were exhausted by the end of it. Perhaps drop one of the two bagel bakeries (they use the same recipe and the bagels tasted nearly identical) and the stop at Lester's (their sandwich was delicious, but it's probably not necessary to have TWO smoked meat sandwiches). At least we were able to walk off some of that incredible food, though! If you're interested in the history of Jews in Montreal and the foods they brought to the culture that are now local staples, this is the tour for you. Just be prepared for a long day and a ton of food!

Our Jewish Food tour in Montreal
Melissa our tour guide was excellent. She gave us a comprehensive tour of the best Jewish food in Montreal. She imparted valuable and very interesting anecdotes about the history of Jewish food and the people. Everyone was full after the many food stops to sample the outstanding food. I highly recommend this tour.

Well balanced culture/history + food tour
Excellent tour guide, with extensive knowledge of the city's history, but also culinary details and culture. This food tour isn't just about food, it's about Chinatown's culture and history first, with food to pair with this information. It's a great mix should you like both walking tours and food tours. There is a good quantity of food, in 3 main sit-down locations + a few bites while walking, but it's mainly in the second part of the tour, the first is mainly a historical/cultural walking tour. This is different from most food tours I've been on, so to be noted if you want food, food, food and only food. For me, it was a super balance, so I'm super happy!

    Food and fun
A jam-packed half day that gave us an interesting history of Jews in Montreal and the neighborhoods with amazing things to eat. From smoked meats to sweets, we were absolutely stuffed. The guide was super enthusiastic and we enjoyed our tour very much.

    Interesting tour
Francis was very good and knowledgeable. But we thought trip was too long. Should be 2 hrs max, not 4. Starting with meat first thing in the morning was not appealing to us. Thought to start at a bagel shop would have been more appropriate. If bagel & coffee were offered - that would have been a great way to start the tour.

A Good Peek into Jewish History, Culture and Food in Montreal
We were fortunate to have energetic Frances as our tour guide. She knew all about the history, culture and popular places to eat in the Jewish section of Montreal, having lived there all her life. Good thing I brought sunscreen, a hat and wore comfy shoes because we walked pretty briskly under the noon day sun. Except for the first and last stop, we ate outdoors, on the go. Frances provided us with a tote bag and a souvenir water bottle which were helpful. She pointed out places as we zigzagged around the neighborhood and shared their back stories. We got to taste and compare bagels and smoked meats from competing shops—all had long lines out the doors. We sampled hummus while learning about schools, churches and parks. She explained the significance of a couple of huge murals on building walls along the way. And as it was shabbat, we got to see quite a number of observant families dressed accordingly. We got a shot of crown royal whisky along with bagels, cream cheese and a pickle. We ended in an ice cream shop where I got to taste flavors i never heard of before. We ended the tour an hour later than expected, no one complained. Everyone tired but happy.

no tour--they cancelled because trhey couldn't fill it--but only gave me a day's notice and billed long before they said
Never actually got the tour, despite confirmation two months ahead of time. This organization is unbelievably opportunistic and they messed up our vacation plans 15x over. They said they'd bill 2 days before, but actually began to bill a week before a tour that they cancelled. 14 emails about changing the date to fit their needs (not ours). Ultimately they canceled the tour, but not until they billed me twice. I have never been so jerked around. DO NOT BOOK WITH THESE OPPORTUNISTS.

Educational and insightful tour she showed us the best things in the neighborhood
Get your camera ready, bring comfy shoes and come hungry! Do not think you will go in some of the bakeries because they are small but the guide goes in and gets all the things! She was amazing! A local filled with so much knowledge. We had plenty of food and even dessert and then walked it off back to our hotel. It was perfect and worth it! Highly recommend

    Learn to appreciate chocolate
Other than knowing about chocolate in a general sense and that it comes from cacoa plants, this tour gave us a much better appreciation of the entire process to making chocolate. The guide, Melissa, accommodated our scheduling conflict and taught us so much at each stop. At each stop, she had us really take time to smell and taste different chocolates to appreciate the differences. At the factory the owner and Melissa talked about each step of the process from selecting cacoa seeds, drying them, roasting, separating them and we could see and taste the differences by changing something at each step. We got to try our hand at making some chocolate bars and adding nuts or other things to take with us. Not skimpy on samples, multiple samples, and all of the guides/owners were so kind, informative, and fun. It wasn't too much walking, easy pace, and our teenager enjoyed the tour (the other family had a middle schooler). It was a mix of listening and doing, so even younger kids would be able to participate and learn something along the way. Lots of visuals and the people were prepared with large pictures for us to be able to see. Highly recommend this tour.

Best tour of iconic Montreal Jewish food
We do a lot of city tours as a family and this was one of the best. Our guide, Darren, went above and beyond, sharing personal experience of growing up in Jewish Montreal, weaving in history, anecdotes and even poetry into the visits to taste the best from iconic Montreal Jewish food establishments. When they say to come hungry, it’s true. You will be pleasantly stuffed by the end and the long walk is definitely helpful to keep you going. Highly recommended!

If I could, I'll give more than 5 stars!
This tour was a gift for my best friend's Birthday and it was absolutely outstanding and way beyond anything I had expected! Melissa is an amazing guide and helped us discover many new locations which we would for sure enjoy many more times in the future. All the places we have visited were extraordinary and we really enjoyed learning about the story behind each location (even met with the owners). Melissa also taught us about Montreal's history in-between the locations we were visiting and the whole tour felt like a little adventure as we walked through areas we've never been before (we are from Montreal too).

The communication was super fast and the customer service was extremely good. We now plan on experiencing all of the remaining tours as Melissa's company was highly enjoyable and we can't wait to learn more about our city.

Thank you!

Thank you Ralitsa! I was nervous and excited because this was the first one since the pandemic and totally revamped. It was very smooth in the end and all places were top-notch. I’m glad I could have you as guests and spend a lovely afternoon with you. It was the perfect day! I hope to see you on more tours! Take care!

We had a fantastic time on this tour. It was appropriate both for those who knew a lot about tea already and those who didn't. She was accommodating to my mom's special needs (mobility impaired). I thought I knew about Japanese tea, but have never experienced anything like the tea service we went to. Highly recommended.

I took two college ladies with me on this tour. We started with an English tea place, then went to a Japanese tea place and finished at a Chinese tea store. We enjoyed it but felt it was too long. We ducked out after 3.5 hours had other things to do before we headed back to the US. Go with your friends or you might get stuck with strangers with whom you have nothing to talk about for a half a day. Also, be ready to get caffeinated. It was a bit overwhelming.

Melissa is a knowledgeable and engaging guide. The Afternoon Tea Tour was a highlight of my trip to Montreal. The stops on the tour were each unique and the shop/tea house owners of the establishments we visited were all very welcoming. You could tell that they all had great relationships with Melissa. There is a lot of walking on this tour, so just be prepared with comfy shoes. The beautiful part about walking is seeing a lot of Montreal close-up. Melissa had wonderful stories to share about various sights along the way. Loved this tour and will do another one next time I'm in Montreal.

Melissa is a wonderful host! Be prepared for lots of information, lots of tea, and lots of walking. If you are a tea lover, this is a great tour; if you are only mildly interested in tea, this could be too much information. It truly does take 4.5 hours, and all of it is used to explain verbally, and hands on, as well, just how to brew the perfect cup of tea. It's mostly green teas; and all the tastings are done sans sugar or milk. Eat something before starting because it does take quite some time before you eat anything...but when you do...it's amazing. The vegetable rice bowl at a tea house is fantastic. The ending location with high tea is fabulous. The kitchen makes everything from scratch. I wish an hour could be eliminated.

The guide was great. She was knowledgeable and entertaining. Between the expertise at each establishment and hers, I learned a lot. I went to places I would never have gone to, or even found. The bar was not open but we went to a very wonderful tea house instead. Sooo many teas were explained, tasted and purchased at each stop. Each stop was unique. Worth every penny. I hope to take another of her tours someday.

Boy, did this exceed every expectation! By chance, my husband surprised me for my 30th birthday by taking me to Montreal and booking this lovely tour.

Our amazing guide, Melissa infuses (pun intended) the simple pleasure of enjoying tea with a synoptic history along with her appreciation for the industry and Montreal is infectious.

At times, tours can lack personality or even feel you wanting more. You don't feel that way on this experience at all. In addition to visiting several tea establishments (both local and corporate), you really get a sense of how the tea world works and what it brings to the table.

Not only that, Melissa indirectly gives you a tour of Montreal, you'll enjoy tea variations and learn some history but you'll also learn about local life and all the delicious local fare that pairs beautifully with tea. Did I forget to mention, this is really a great move if you'd like to subside that cold wintery air!

Melissa provided us an amazing tour focused around the tea culture in Montreal and the history of tea and also a little bit of Montreal history as well. The stops on the tour were well thought out, all a little bit different and all top-notch. My boyfriend, who hates tours, really loved this one. There's lots of walking which wasn't a problem for us but good to be aware of.
We specifically loved the stops at Cha Do Raku and the Cardinal Team Room. By the way all of the vendors treated Melissa she is well respected in the community and welcomed everywhere.
If you're into tea or just wanting something new to learn about-- this is definitely for you. Can't recommend any higher!

This is my second tour with Melissa of Round Table Tours and I hope to go on many more!
She is an outstanding guide, with a great ability to create an engaging srory about a particular food and draw us in to the narrative.
Her tea tour is amazing. My family group ranged from my young adult nephew and his girlfriend to my 85 year old mother with dementia and every one of us had a fabulous time.
Melissa went out of her way to get answers to questions and make sure everyone enjoyed themselves.
I will absolutely be booking another tour with Melissa the next time I'm in Montreal.

Thank you so much Lisa! It is a treat having you and Edith and co every time! I hope to have you back many more times. You are by far one of the guests that eats up the content and has a deep appreciation of the people we meet along the tour and all that we taste and for the geeky info too! :) It was gratifying to do such contrasting tours for you and have you enjoy both. I look forward to next time and I promise that it will be wildly different from the first two! All the best until then!
