Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi

Your journey begins once your flight arrives in Nairobi, Kenya. Get a warm welcome from your host family at the airport as they are the first to greet you into Kenya. Head to your family’s residence to unpack and settle in. Take some time to relax and unwind before you celebrate your arrival with a scrumptious family dinner.

Day 2: Adventure throughout Nairobi

Stop At: Maasai Market, Nairobi Kenya
Have an early morning breakfast with your family and prepare for a full day exploring the city. Head to the City Centre and stroll through the streets of Nairobi to experience what the city life is all about. Visit the open street Maasai Market and multiple others, where you can witness the unique ways the locals buy and sell day-to-day items—and even purchase some for yourself! You’ll find authentic curios, paintings, drawings, clothes, and fabrics with East African prints, all handmade by local artisans.

Stop At: David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Mbagathi Road Kws Workshop Entrance - Nairobi National Park, Nairobi 00503 Kenya
Then, visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. This trust is a center that cares for young, abandoned elephants and rhinos and works to release the animals back into the wild. This is an amazing opportunity for you to see these majestic animals up close.
Head to lunch at an authentic local restaurant just within the city limits.

Stop At: Bomas of Kenya, Langata Rd Mageso Chember, Nairobi 00200 Kenya
Promptly after, visit the Bomas of Kenya to experience the rich diversity of Kenyan traditional music and dance performances. The Bomas Harambee Dancers use a combination of live percussion, string and wind instruments, and diverse, authentic, and energetic dancing to take you on a sensational journey through Kenya’s past and present.
Then, stroll through the Bomas’ wonderful display of authentic mud huts and traditional Kenyan homesteads that’s laid out according to each different region of Kenya to exhibit the uniqueness of what each tribe’s village looks like.

Day 3: Explore the Coast of Mombasa

Stop At: Mombasa SGR Terminus, Miritini, Kenya
Have an early morning breakfast and head to the SGR train station for your departure to Mombasa. This is a six-hour train ride to the city of Mombasa, boasting grand sightseeing from the comfort of your seat. Enjoy views of African elephants, zebras, and local tribes as you race towards your destination.
Packed snacks and lunch will be prepared for the trip.
Arrive in beautiful Mombasa, and head to your Mombasa residence to settle in and freshen up. Then, take a short walk down to the beach for an afternoon spent on Mombasa's breathtaking white sand beaches. Take a stroll down the beach to see how the locals thrive off of the sea side. Visit shops/stands right on the beach while enjoying an incredible beachfront sunset.
Dinner will be prepared back at the residence by an authentic, private Swahili chef.

Day 4: Explore the Coast of Mombasa - Day 2

Stop At: Fort Jesus Museum, Ndia Kuu, Mombasa 00200 Kenya
Wake up early in the morning and have a full English breakfast. Afterwards, hop in a unique cab called a matatu (a van decked out in designs, music, and trinkets) to drive to Mombasa City for a visit to the Fort Jesus monument. Fort Jesus is a historical fort on Mombasa Island that was designed by Italian Giovanni Battista Cairati in 1593.

Stop At: Mombasa Tusks, Moi avenue, Mombasa 80100 Kenya
After visiting Fort Jesus, board a tuk tuk (a three-wheeled, engined transport with a hood covering the long back seat for passengers) and venture out into the multicultural Old Town of Mombasa. See a piece of Mombasa’s past and its historical monuments that make Mombasa so distinct. Head over to the famous Pembe Za Ndovu, meaning “elephant ivory,” to capture some memorable pictures. These tusks were set up in 1952 to commemorate the visit to the town by Queen Elizabeth 2. They form the letter “M.”

Stop At: Marikiti Shop, Kenya
Then, adventure off to the Marikiti Market, a unique market full of brightly colored Kenyan clothing and artwork, while enjoying a cold glass of some fresh local sugar cane juice and other distinctive treats.
For lunch, head to a local eatery for some Swahili delicacies.

Stop At: Mamba Village Centre, Links Road, Mombasa 80100 Kenya
After lunch, head to Mamba Village to enjoy one of East Africa’s largest crocodile farms. Get up close to see these prehistoric animals like never before. A highlight of this tour is feeding time, when all the hungry crocs gather for their dinner!
Then, enjoy the rest of the afternoon on the beach.
Sate your own hunger with dinner back at the residence prepared by an authentic, private Swahili chef.

Day 5: Adventure throughout Nairobi - Day 2

Stop At: Giraffe Centre, Duma Rd, Nairobi Kenya
Wake up early morning to have a full English breakfast, and head to the SGR train station for your departure back to Nairobi.
Travel to the Giraffe Centre, where you get the opportunity to see these majestic Rothschild giraffes up close. The Giraffe Centre was established in order to protect the endangered giraffes that are found only in the grasslands of East Africa.

Stop At: Kenyatta International Conference Center, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi 00100 Kenya
After, head over to the KICC Rooftop, a viewing platform that shows expansive panoramic views of the city of Nairobi.
Return home for some relaxation and a family dinner.

Day 6: Life in the Village

*Please note, your village experience is based on the villages that your host family belongs to. That being said, all our host families come from different regions of Kenya (some nearby Mount Kenya) and each individual village has its own unique ways of life. This village itinerary is only an example of what you could see. Your experience may be similar in some ways, but will differ depending on your host family.
Have an early morning breakfast, then leave for your village experience. This is an opportunity like none other, where you truly get to experience the simplicity and authenticity of multiple Kenyan villages.
During your drive, enjoy views of the lush tea and coffee plantations along the way. Stop and take pictures with the wonderful green landscapes! Upon your arrival, enjoy a warm welcome from all the village relatives when you arrive and prepare to be invited into their home for a hot cup of tea and juices.
Lunch will be prepared by the family, showing you how Kenyan village cooking is prepared with the use of firewood techniques.
After lunch, explore the village to see what a typical afternoon looks like. Examine the fragrant gardens, expansive farms, and water sources.
A traditional home village dinner with the family will follow. Then, head back to Nairobi to spend the night.

Day 7: Life in the Village - Day 2

Stop At: Mount Kenya National Park 10400 Kenya
Wake up and head to another authentic Kenyan village. Have an early breakfast with the family, tour the village town to see local shops and stores, and greet other villagers who live nearby. Explore upriver and fetch water just like a true villager while enjoying the fresh countryside air.
Lunch will then be served.
Get up close and personal with the farming lifestyle by milking a cow, herding livestock, picking crops, and much more. Witness how villagers go about their day-to-day tasks with minimal assistance from machinery and technology.
Enjoy your last family gathering in the village over a traditional bonfire dinner. Afterwards, you will return to Nairobi to spend the night.

Day 8: Adventure throughout Nairobi - Day 3

Stop At: Learn to Make Jewelry&Pottery frm clay - Kazuri Beads Factory, Karen, Nairobi 00502 Kenya
Have an early morning breakfast, and embark on a driving tour of the area. On the way, stop at a few different towns and see the unique handmade paintings and wood carvings crafted by the locals. Grab lunch at a local restaurant to experience authentic Kenyan cuisine.
Stop at the Kazuri Beads & Pottery Centre Factory, which helps disadvantaged local women. They specialize in handmade ceramic beads, pottery, and genuine leather bags. Kazuri means “small and beautiful” in Swahili, which describes each and every handmade ceramic bead that is meticulously shaped by the women who work at the workshop.
Head back home to have one last special family farewell dinner celebration.
