About
At an altitude of 2,427 m, Tay Con Linh is one of the highest mountains in Vietnam, the rooftops of the Northeast Forest Mountains. Tay Con Linh is a mountain range in the west of Ha Giang, although not the highest mountain in Vietnam, the conquest of the Northeast roof seems to be much more difficult than the high peak Fansipan. Because, the road to the Tay Con Linh is far away and has not been shaped into lines as the road to conquer the roof of Indochina, so that Tay Con Linh is worth to try. On the way, you will be traveling through remote areas, very few inhabitants, almost isolated from the civilized world. Scenery change continuously from terrain, the "Snow Shan" old forests, bamboo forests. Conquering Tay Con Linh you also have opportunity to see the terraced rice fields created by local hill tribes here.

Amazing experience of nature and culture
Oct 2019 • Friends
I went this trek a few days ago with a couple of friends and I can easily say it was probably the highlight of my three weeks in Vietnam. The itinerary is similar to those of many treks through Sapa and we decided to take a chance on this tour after hearing complaints from friends about the volume of tourists in nearby Sapa.

Getting to the starting point in Hoang Su Phi (which is a district and not a specific town) involved a fairly confusing and arduous four hour trip on a rough road in a cramped local bus from Ha Giang that costs 100k VND. The tour company spoke to the driver of the bus to ensure he knew where to pick us up and drop us off. From the moment we were dropped off we didn't see any outlets or have an internet signal on our phones for two and a half days until the trek was over - none of us had a sim card with calls and our guide, Phau didn't have a smartphone. Needless to say we met up and started the trek as plan but it was a bit dicey so be prepared.

The trek itself was so breathtakingly gorgeous that we had a lot of trouble deciding when to use our limited batteries to take pictures. The first day and last days we hiked up through the rice terraces and hamlets of the Red Dao and Hmong minorities. We were fed frequently and generously with simple and well prepared local food including some delicious foraged ingredients. On the second day we started climbing above the ubiquitous motorcycle trails used by the locals into more challenging territory where our guides fashioned us bamboo canes without which we wouldn't have been able to continue. The trek goes through occasionally thorny and dense undergrowth so long pants and sleeves are strongly advised. Along the way we sampled wild growing berries, spices and tea/herbs and had a surprisingly rich meal near the summit.

Our local guides Phau and Qui were amazingly resourceful and helpful, with Phau (the only English speaker we encountered and the main guide) answering our copious questions and showing us lots of interesting stuff. The Hmong hosts we dined and slept with were gracious and generous. All in all I couldn't have asked for a better trip - the tour is very much off the grid and not for germophobes or comfort seekers and we didn't see a single tourist until we were heading back home on the last day. Highly recommended.
