About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- carnaes0 contributionsSave your time and money! Avoid this 'game!'We were NOT IMPRESSED with this game! It was OVERPRICED AND NOT FUN! Our clues had a lot of inconsequential information that wasn't relevant to discovering the next place on the list. Also, there was absolutely nothing "scavenging" about this endeavor! We just tried to decipher stupid clues that brought us around town. We were so disappointed that we just stopped playing.Written 7 July 2024
- evaromme0 contributionsA Disappointing Rip Off!Do NOT waste your money with this experience. This was the most disappointing, overpriced activity I have ever paid for. This activity was advertised as a “scavenger hunt, escape room, and amazing race adventure all in one” and it was nothing near this. We literally paid $65 to walk around a mall looking for words. There is no excitement, or creativity of any kind. You don’t even get to retrieve items along the way or interact with anyone during the activity. We simply walked around a mall for $65! Outrageous! We didn’t even get to explore other parts of the city. It was completely disappointing and for this price we could have simply purchased a board game to play at home instead. I will NEVER purchase another activity with “CLUESOLVERS” again and highly suggest anyone who reads this uses their hard earned money towards ANYTHING but this.Written 17 February 2023
- ToucanSamsDad0 contributionsNot GreatThere were some enjoyable moments on this adventure however the clue links didn't all work when you tried to access the Cluesolver website. There are a few clues as well that are extremely complicated and unrelated to the location that you are directed to. (Hint - when you end up at a local steak house, the answer to the clue has nothing to do with that location). Each broken link and unnecessary direction to a local restaurant or bar for a break can be frustrating. I would say this activity is about 75% good and 25% very bad. I contacted support during the adventure and they said they would "look into the broken links". Requested a refund and instead received a "20$ gift certificate" for my next adventure for my troubles. Eventually they upped that offer to a free game the next time I want to play. Thx but why would I incur more of this experience! Buyer beware - spend the $59 at your own peril.Written 7 September 2022
- armandos19690 contributionsGreat fun had by all.Three of us aged 53, 25 and 11 played the “after the gold rush family edition”. We really enjoyed the clues and felt like it was a good challenge and kept us engaged. We learned a fair bit and saw things we had never noticed before.Written 13 March 2022
- Cripps38540 contributionsMystery town canmoreAll in all it was very enjoyable and fun to do. However there were 3 clues that were either, poorly worded/made no sense/ and wasn't updated which was pretty frustrating. Would recommend having clickable links through app when needed. As well as making map on website clear when zoomed in. Other than those few things we had a good time. Looking forward to doing another one somewhere else.Written 10 August 2021
- R4560HWandrewa0 contributionsCatastrophe in CalgaryWe paid to do the Calgary: Riotous Roundup - touted as a great activity to do during COvID lockdown. Well a whole parkade is under construction and we couldn’t access a ped-way. We called and texted the number, no response. We left a voicemail, no one called us back. Due to the construction we were forced outside to try to figure out where to go. We had to completely guess at the answer, as we were not able to see the image referenced. After 45 minutes and no response we just gave up. My wife was unable to sync her phone on the app, so I was the only one with the clues. Some of the clues were clever, but many relied on things that were closed due to COvID. Most of the food started closing at 2:00 pm, due to COvID (or was completely closed). It was a very frustrating experience, with no help. As it was advised as something to do during COvID, it was very disorganized and disappointing. At a cost of $61.95 + ($18.50 in parking) it was an overpriced nightmare. Made for a horrible day. I would suggest just going for a walk yourself and looking out the window s downtown - save your $60+Written 3 June 2021
- sja4540 contributionsDo it!!!Wife and I did the Crowsnest Pass mystery. Early frustration as the mystery wouldn't open on my phone. Tried reloading the app a couple of times, but it wouldn't work. I called the phone number that was included on the receipt, not really expecting to get a hold of anyone as it was Saturday afternoon. Pleasantly surprised when Iain answered! I explained what was going on and he tried troubleshooting over the phone but problem persisted. He contacted someone on the technical team for advice and called me back. We tried a few more things with no success. He then called someone involved with the app and discovered a problem with the app. It was corrected within minutes. Iain called back and sent me a new code. We tried it and it worked!! Wife and I did the tour-very cool! A great way to learn about local history and some easy exercise at the same time! Tour took us about 1 and 3/4 hours to complete. Troubleshooting took 20ish minutes prior to starting. App worked flawless during the challenge. Will definitely do another tour! Iain was very apologetic and helpful. He even called back once we started to make sure the app was working and ask if we had any questions! Would absolutely recommend!!Written 12 December 2020
- jodyb9500 contributionsBachelorette Party - Great afternoon activity!Highly recommend! We had several groups compete against each other for a bachelorette party activity one afternoon (June 2019) and it was a huge hit. It was more challenging than we expected (but in a good way!); everyone agreed that it was a fantastic activity. The app was super easy to navigate and one of the highlights of the weekend. Response from Mystery Towns was also excellent. Fun!Written 31 August 2020
- ABResMeg180 contributionsKeeping up with the times and bringing some sunshine during quarantine!Mystery Towns is amazing! They are now offering virtual trivia/scavenger hunts to bring a little joy to those looking for a fun activity during COVID-19. My friends and U set up a zoom session together and played The Brotherhood - highly recommend! Both thought-provoking and challenging, it was a great opportunity for my friends and I to learn some international history and have a lot of fun doing it. We had 3 people which was perfect but you can have more or less. Solo may be difficult but it can be done. I'd recommend at least 2 phones/laptops so you have one to answer the questions and one to do research. If you're looking for a great way to beat the quarantine blues, this is the way to go!Written 11 June 2020
- AStriefler0 contributionsRace the clock, discover downtown, save the animals!!If you have ever dreamed of being on Amazing Race but haven't been cast yet (or failed to apply) then this is the perfect activity for you. The other benefit is that it only takes you a couple of hours. The story to your scavenger hunt is that some animals have been stolen from the zoo and you have to help find them (19 I believe in total). Each clue will give you creative directions to find your way to the next location and then a clue to help solve which animal you are looking for. Once purchasing a race day, you will get information on how to download the app. They will send you a time frame for your race and starting information. When you get to your first location, you will login and start the scavenger hunt. You will get a sample clue to solve before the actual hunt begins...this will help orient you to the types of questions you will be facing. The app is a free download but you will need data on your phone as you run the race. Once you have logged in, you can get also download it on additional phones so you aren't relying on one person's phone to read the clue over and over. Saturday is a good day to do the race as downtown is quieter. The plus 16 and stores close by 6 so do not start your hunt any later then 4 pm. The directions are well laid out and we had no trouble finding the next location (pay attention to each word and you will find your way around as well). If you are needing a directional hint you can request one however it will come at the cost of an added time penalty. Some of the clues are easy to piece together and some of them took a lot of work to figure out. You can also request a clue specific hint but once again that comes with a time penalty. Also, if you guess a wrong answer, you will be given a time penalty. If you give up on a clue, it will direct you to the next location however that is with a much larger time penalty. Plan for at least 2 hours to complete the race (you will end at the same place as you start). You are given the option for a couple of snack/coffee breaks (don't worry the timer is paused if you do take a break) so if you are wanting a break make sure to plan that as additional time above the 2 hour time frame. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be walking about 2.5 km for this hunt. It is all indoors so you don't need to worry about the outdoor weather conditions for this race. 2-4 people would work for this race...we had 4 which was a great number as we needed everyone's eyes and ears to solve the clues. The race itself is challenging and well laid out. We thought it may be cheesy but were really impressed. The family could do this race however some of the questions are more challenging and may be over kids heads. If you have questions or need help (before the race), the staff was super helpful and quick to respond helping ease our minds and help prepare us for the race ahead.Written 3 March 2020
- Mzhl6700 contributionsGreat adventure, but very difficult with confusing directionsWe had a great time with the Unchained Melody adventure. The app is fantastic, convenient and easy to use. The clues are smartly done and give you a great tour around Canmore. We have discovered places and businesses that we didn't even now about. That being said, the directions in each clue were extremely confusing and misleading. We have a great sense of direction and know Canmore very well, but we were unable to follow the directions provided. Even the hints didn't make sense and we eventually abandoned the game after a full four hours of crisscrossing Canmore. Very disappointing! I understand that it's supposed to be challenging, but the misleading directions really put a damper on things. We will be back for more adventures though!Written 7 October 2019
- 967kellyt0 contributionsGood experienceOverall it was a positive experience. We had fun, got exercise and had a chance to work toward a common goal. Great activity for couples. We will do it again and again. There were low points; however, the Mystery Towns group has been very proactive and helpful on the phone and pin E-Mails. Some things were not supported by the businesses. On our first planned rest/break. The business owner gave us the item to find the clue and said to take it outside. She needed her tables for paying customers. We were planning on having brunch there. She showed no hospitality at all. It was quite off putting. There were two instances that the business did not have the clue on display at the time. We wasted hints and time looking for something that was not there. One of them was the first clue. It was a bit disheartening when you are struggling on the first puzzle because you are handicapped by the game. Once we were past the first couple of negative experiences we were locked and quickly moved through the clues and puzzles. We are grateful we stuck with it and did not become discouraged. It was worth the time and efforts. Overall it was a fun and cooperative way to spend an afternoon. I would encourage MysteryTowns to make sure all businesses that sign up are fully participating. Again. Our family will be doing more of these tours. Very affordable and fun way to spend an afternoon.Written 15 September 2019
- Brooke06260 contributionsCanmore - Unchained MelodyGreat group adventure! We had 11 people in their 50s in Canmore for a reunion and we broke into 2 groups. This was a great way for visitors who were not up for climbing a mountain to spend the afternoon. Keep in mind, that if you go off track, which both groups did, you will go farther than the suggested 5.5 km. Having a town map with your group would also be helpful as well as several phones to ensure that you have enough battery power.Written 7 September 2019
- rachel c0 contributionsYYC Calgary--good way to pass the timeDid the YYC tour after dropping bags for a flight. Found so many parts of the airport this way we didn't know existed. Clues were witty and had a decent balance of visual and reading elements to engage players of different ages. Also used the chat customer service option on the website and found our questions were promptly answered and well addressed.Written 23 August 2019
- mikeld2340 contributionsBad experiencePlease do not fall for this good idea. We did the one in Victoria and we lost 100$ in less then 30 minutes. The application blocked, the directions were very wrong, places did not exist and the rules that were imposed ruined the holiday fun. Bad experience. I contacted the developer several times but ofcourse no answer back.Written 30 July 2019

Our group of two families (12 people- children and teens) saw familiar sights but in new light. Read the clue carefully, think outside the box and enjoy the walking tour. Wear comfortable footwear and dress for the weather.

My sister and I did this tour and had a blast. It took us about two hours. We could have gone slower and done more reading of the signs and exploring the shops if we wanted too. It took us down some beautiful walking paths, we saw amazing views of rivers, mountains, and more, and got to know Canmore a lot better. Would recommend.

There were 3 of us in our group. The tour took us down streets which we had never been down before, and it was awesome finding our way around. We took our time, and stopped in several stores to do some shopping. We learned a lot about Canmore, and found some wonderful walking trails too. It was fun! I would highly recommend this tour!!

If you book through Groupon, you can get the Canmore adventures for much cheaper. My husband and I took a couple hours, covered quite a bit if territory (all on foot) but had a great afternoon.
