Don't do the Musical Ride
Aug 2020
I was not disappointed in the Fort itself. However, I would not do the musical ride attraction. Having seen the real RCMP do the musical ride a number of times this did not compare. It consisted of local highschool students riding mismatched horses. They get away with it by calling it the Northwest Mounted Police Musical Ride so it is not quite false advertising, but we were fooled enough to go see it. It is not worth the extra money. Go see the real thing.

Hi Darren, Thank you for your honest review. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your visit through the museum and can understand your disappointment when comparing our NWMP Musical Ride to the fabulous RCMP one. Although we do try our best to provide a piece of living history in our performance, we do not have the large funds to invest into our ride as the RCMP does. We rely heavily on donations and the talent of our community and region to keep this important part of history alive! Thanks for your understanding. Best, the E.D.

Nice Historical Museums
Aug 2019
Lovely museum, interesting exhibits on the RCMP and Fort Macleod. It was well worth the stop, However, other than running around the fort, it’s not very interactive for children. There is a museum shop, but I was hoping for more selection for Fort merchandise.

Well loved from my childhood, I’m glad I took my family there.

It was a bit hokey. But the exhibits were interesting for the most part. We were surprised that admission was not included in our CANOO card. But some of the interpretative experiences with reanactors were good.

One of the better museums I have visited
Jul 2019 • Couples
My Wife and I visited here which is set up to resemble the original Fort Macleod with the buildings that comprised the fort full of displays and artifacts depicting what life would have been like in the late 1800’s. The highlight of the visit was the RCMP or should I say the NWMP musical ride.

Enjoyed visiting this site and learning so much about the early days in Canada and of the history of this very famous police force which evolved from the North West amounted Police to today’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Good & Bad
Jul 2019 • Family
It's hard to decide whether to give this museum 3 or 4 stars. It's a part of Canadian history and the exhibits were interesting and engaging but mostly not hands on. However, the price to visit was very high. This is probably a once in a lifetime type of place. They do offer a scavenger hunt booklet for kids with a lollipop treat and free parking. We did not stay for the musical ride as it's not the actual musical ride and there was an additional charge. If you are a Canadian history buff or your children are learning about the NWMP or Alberta it may be worth a stop.

Canada Day Treat
Jul 2019 • Family
Not the first time we've visited the Historic Fort, but it was Canada Day and there were a lot of events on offer. If you want to know more about how the pioneers settled the prairies, how law and order was preserved and how it impacted the indigenous the First Nation dwellers, this is the place to go. Try and get your visit to coincide with a performance of the Red Coat Musical Ride. You won't be disappointed.

Great History on the RCMP
May 2019 • Couples
We really enjoyed our visit to the Fort. We learned a lot about the early days of policing in Canada and what led to the establishment of the RCMP in Canada. Numerous historical items are on display and very good explanations are provided on them. Unfortunately, our visit was too early to witness a presentation of the Musical Ride, which would be wonderful in the summer. It was fun to roam around inside the old fort imagining what life would have been like 150 years ago. There is a gift shop inside the fort.
