Our guide on the walking tour, Claire, has significant experience as an alumna, previous employee of the university and current resident - so she has been a treasure trove of information, delivering just the right balance of trivia and answers to questions from the eclectic age group during our tour. It is not my first walking tour in Cambridge but still found it refreshing, bringing the kids this time round. Highly recommended as the tour to follow regardless of age.
The punting trip was run by a separate company despite the combo ticket. Though the mooring site was further away from the bridge where there were many competitors vying for business, it was a lovely secluded spot to set off - with cute ducklings at the water edge looking for treats. The young man who took us was pleasant but as he was not an alumna, his tour was more genetically scripted - but to be honest, Claire would have been a hard act to follow. He did manoeuvre us very safely on a busy river day full of other competitors and tourists attempting to punt.

Our walking tour with Florence was okay, but not great. The tour was slow and a bit light on facts. When prompted for info on student life, she was helpful and knowledgeable but didn't volunteer any info on this topic unless asked, which to me is the whole point of doing a tour with an alumni.
Each stop would end with the group awkwardly standing around looking at each other before we slowly moved onto the next stop. We also spent quite a bit of time walking along 'the backs', which while pretty was not something I needed a guided tour of.
The punting tour was great and our guide did a wonderful job of explaining the sites with a little humor along the way.

We were telephoned the evening before our trip to ask is we would switch round our walking & punting - which actually worked perfectly for us! The punting tour started at 11am & was relaxing, informative & fun (our guide was studying at Bristol Uni - but still knew his stuff!).
We then had just over an hour break, which meant we could enjoy lunch before our walking tour. Our guide Becky was a Cambridge graduate this time! Some stories are repeated, but with a slightly different version & the walking tour is more comprehensive. Group size was 8 which is about right & meant we could all hear what she was saying & ask individual questions ( she was doing 3x 1.5 hour trips & still kept us all interested)

Met up with Chris to do a walking tour of the city and because we were a small group he was pretty flexible and answered lots of our questions. He was informative about the colleges and the way the university works as a whole having been a student and a fellow. It gives you a great perspective of the history and also so interesting to find out who has studied there.
We then went on to meet Johnny who did our punt tour had just returned from Australia and was happy to talk about several other things as well as where we were in Cambridge. It was really interesting hearing from someone who knew the city so well and even grew up there.
Thanks Chris and Johnny for giving us such a great tour.

Weather wise we were so unlucky...I don't think it has rained as hard as it did today at any other time so far this year, but....we went ahead with our tour and we are so glad we did. The best compliment I can give our tour guide Claire is that she made the weather challenges irrelevant. not once did we wish we had canceled. Her knowledge combined with her natural delivery and communication made the whole experience both educational and enjoyable. Thank you Claire!

I visited Cambridge for the first time and chose walking and punting tours to know better about the city. Joseph was our guide. He was witty, informative and highly accommodating it made every one in the group enjoy and feel like a part of group. The history of every site was beautifully explained and he also encouraged more questions. The tour had the right amount of walk and it wasn't too tiring.

Sarah our walking tour guide was excellent, we learnt a lot as we walked around Cambridge.
The only thing I enjoyed about the Kings college chapel was the interior, because of this I felt the entry ticket was over priced.
The punting was great and relaxing although if we hadn't been on the walking tour we wouldn't have learnt a lot as not only couldn't we hear the tour guide, the tour guide didn't explain very much about the buildings or bridges which we passed.

Walking tour was a little slow and while Florence was a lovely girl she wasn't always accurate with her information. The Punt experience was completely different, this was excellent and our guide Tatham (sorry if this is not the correct spelling, he was a local lad) was excellent and 100% worth a tip. Overall I've said very good, but this was only because of the walking tour.
NOTE: post my review I received a very professional call from the Cambridge team so they could understand my review better. Impressive to say the least, they value the custom and clearly want to ensure they are offering a quality product.

Excellent and fun tour of Cambridge with Francesco, I would definitely recommend it to first-time visitors, to learn about the history of the city and of the college and really understand what you’re looking at while going around. I really enjoyed all the extra stories and inside knowledge that Francesco provided! The punting experience was also very relaxing, especially after all the walking. Absolutely worth every penny!

We did the walking part with Alex, a post-grad student at Murray-Edwards College. She was interesting, articulate, spoke clearly and was very keen to make sure we had a good time. Her inside knowledge, as a student at Cambridge University, brought the city to life and the stories and anecdotes were priceless! We then joined Guy on his punt. Guy (a local lad) was also very entertaining, told us different stories whilst effortlessly steering us between the other boats on the Cam (despite having had his Covid vaccination the day before!). Highly recommended.

Hi,
I am really confused about this two tour:
Combo Tour: 3h, walking and punking, 90mins
Combo with King's College : 2h-----what's this tour include? walking and punking and go inside king's college within 2h? But the price is higher. Could you please kindly let me know the difference? Thanks!

Hi, would like to book for myself and two girls - 11 and 13 years. 11 year old is a Child. I can’t work out how to book 13 year old as appears children are up to 12 and adults start at 18? Anyone know?

Hi
This looks really interesting and my husband and I are thinking of booking. Couple of questions!? How many people are in the tours? Also how strenuous is the walking? I assume it’s a fairly leisurely ‘stop/start’ sort of pace? Thanks Lynn
Written 6 July 2021
The walking tour lasted about 90 min. There were about 16 people booked on our tour - 6 were my own family, 1 was a child of about 6 years old and 2 people didn't turn up. One couple brought a small dog with them. We stopped for our excellent guide to give us facts at various colleges and sites. We walked at quite a brisk pace, but the guide waited for everyone to be ready before starting to speak so there was no danger of missing anything. We went on the punting tour afterwards as well. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. Hope you enjoy your trip.

Hello,
Can you take children under 3 on the this tour? When I clicked to book the age range went from 3. We'll have a collapsible pram with us that takes up very little room.
thanks

Hello, we'll have a 1 year old. Can we book them a place on the tour as the age range from children when I clicked to book went from 3?
Many thanks
Written 4 June 2021
Hi description said family friendly. We will have a toddler with us and therefore a pram. How does this work with the punting?
Written 22 July 2019
I would guess it could be a problem because the punts are very low in the water and because of this lifting the pram into and out of the punt could be an issue. Also you sit almost at water level, eye to eye with the ducks, a pram will sit above your head and block your and other passengers view of the buildings as you glide past. In some areas the trees overhang the river and their branches may drag into the pram.

Planning to book this tour for family. Traveling from Kent hence Car is only preferred option for us. What is nearest the Car Park ?

Hello, the closest parking is at the Grand Arcade.

Is the itinerary between 11:00 and 13:00 be the same? Or is 11:00 tour only be a walking tour without punting since the description in the "tour options" is different with the others?
Written 27 May 2019
All the combo tour options include the same 90-minute walking tour and 50-minute punting tour.
