- michellepV4322XX0 contributionsBest school trip ever!We had an absolutely fantastic class trip to Park in the Past! The Roman Fort experience day was sperb. Our Roman guide presented the history of Romans in Britain in such a fun and memorable way, the children loved the whole day. From experiencing daily life in a fort by building roads and collecting firewood to learning about Roman toilets and spear throwing, it was an experience to never forget! We will definitely visit again.Written 27 November 2024

- Stefano9150 contributionsRoman Tour£ 8 quid each for a very enjoyable 1.5 hours tour with the very pleasant guide name Keller. we had a very good time listening to all explanations and jokes he made along the way. It was money well spent and there wasn't really too much to walk in the end. really good finale at the Arena.Written 1 November 2019

- lwenlock0 contributionsTerrificusGreat your. Well worth it if you are in Chester. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and engaging for all ages. You could tell he loved his subject. Although the tour is 1.5hrs long there is not an excessive amount of walking so great for all ages. Get to envisage some of the structures the modern city is built on. Well worth the £20 family ticket.Written 10 August 2019

Excellent value for money & also great to see the young kids singing & shouting on the other tour, very highly recommended, thanks again TitusWritten 25 March 2019

We booked a tour of Roman Chester with Roman Tours commencing at the Tourist Information Centre. Our guide, Roland, in full Roman attire met us as arranged and proceeded to entertain us with a combination of factual information and anecdotes with a Roman slant. What Roland did not know about Roman history could be written on a postage stamp and add to this his natural ability to entertain and relate a tale to an audience in fresh style and we were delighted with our near on two hours spent in his company. Highly recommended!

My daughter loves history and was excited to do the tour and it was great. The tour, which takes 1.5 hours to complete on foot takes in the Roman sights of the city. It only costs £20 for a family of 4 so a real bargain.
Our guide, Attius Cella was great - very knowledgeable and explained things clearly, at the right level and with a sense of humour.
We loved the tour and it’s increased my daughters knowledge and interest in Roman history.

Our roman guide Crassus had a lot to put up with! Not only was he competing at times with both singing evangelists and a drumming busker his delivery was muted by the obligatory face mask. However, he overcame all obstacles with aplomb. The ninety minute tour passed quickly with his informative and humorous commentary on Roman Chester and the life of roman troops in general. We learned a lot and laughed a lot with our lugubrious legionnaire!

We booked on the tour as my son has been doing about Romans in school. We were the only ones booked on so we had a private tour by ‘Frax’. It was only £20 for a family which is brilliant value. The guy took us around Chester visiting the gardens, the amphitheater and some other interesting places. My kids are aged 8 and 5 and he kept them interested the whole time. They loved all the facts, it was really educational. We all enjoyed doing something a bit different- highly recommend.

Mum, Dad & a very inquisitive 9 year old on a first visit to Chester. Our guide, Titus, was hugely knowledgable, humorous & a great orator, helping to keep his audience fully engaged for over an hour & a half. The time flew by, with fascinating facts & historical details helping to bring Roman civilisation to life. The facts & stories were supported by some humour, which the kids ( and most parents ) all found very funny. The tour took in the amphitheater, city walls & Roman gardens and probably only comprised of around 15 or so minutes of actual walking
As a (fairly) well educated 50 year old, even I left having learned a considerable amount of Roman knowledge ( sorry, no spoilers ). Overall a hugely valuable experience on a very worthwhile subject and as someone very wise ( “Reg” ) once said “...but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?”

What makes the tours come to life is that the reenactors hold a strong passion for the history they teach, thus it is more engaging and informative when they talk about it. There's nothing better th.an being taught by someone who loves what they teach.
I highly recommend this tour, and if you too share a love for ancient history like that of ancient Rome, then do consider joining the team.

Just come back from a weekend in Chester, the highlight of which was the Roman Walking Tour! Our guide was Crassus and he was absolutely excellent. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour was informative and great fun. As our group happened to not have any children on it, we got a few tidbits of 'adults only' information on the Romans too!
It was meant to be 1.5 hours but we overran by almost half an hour mainly due to all of our questions - thank you Crassus for indulging us :)
Can't recommend this tour highly enough - a must do if you're visiting chester!

What a great tour, would not hesitate to recommend to anyone with even a slight interest in The Romans or history in general! My uncle is seriously into his Romans so we took him for his birthday. I was imagining him complaining about the tour being inaccurate or naff, but he was genuinely amazed by the breadth and depth of knowledge our guide had. We were taken around the city by Atticus Keller; he was great, looked the part and seemed to enjoy sharing his passion and knowledge. We all appreciated his delivery, sense of humour and how he was able to present information as digestible and exciting stories! The tour felt really interactive and he was happy to answer any questions, indulge our curiosity and even guide us to the restaurant where we were having lunch. Totally 5 stars, a great outing for family or friends!

Thoroughly recommend! We had a brilliant walking tour with Cassius around Chester today with our 4 & 7 year old. Cassius was informative, creative and funny. He was great with the kids but also spoke to the adults and to be honest I wasn’t bothered about it at all, I booked it for our son who is studying the Romans at school but within about 3 minutes I was hooked and engaged and Cassius kept me entertained throughout the 1.5 hour experience, and came away thinking about it all long after the tour finished. We come to Chester every year and I’ll never think of it the same way again. I wouldn’t mind doing it again next year.
It was the only part of the day where the kids didn’t argue or tell us they were bored constantly so a massive thumbs up and I would totally recommend to families and couples young or wise! Cassius was amazing, so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. :)

This walking tour takes about 90 minutes and is a great way to see the city centre while learning lots about Chester's Roman past. As part of the tour you get to see some Roman ruins under a Pret a Manger cafe. Our guide "Crassus" (or it may have been Dave) was brilliant - funny but clearly well informed and he coped very well with having a toddler among our group. Thoroughly recommended.

Would it be suitable to take my 2 small dogs along to?
Thank you in advance.
Written 7 July 2022
It’s mainly an outdoor tour but at one point you go into the basement of Prêt à Manger to look at the original columns of the Roman city. If you don’t mind not going into Prêt then I suppose you could take you dogs. Probably best to contact the tour company, they may have a policy in place.

Hi, probably not, quite a bit of walking, and lots of talking, our children at that age would’ve got bored I imagine.
We did see another one, where it seemed child oriented, may have been a school party though. Suggest you do a search say under children activity in Chester maybe.
Good Luck

hi I just got back to the States. We were there for a tour a few days ago and it was pouring rain. We waited in the tourist office for an hour before the tour and then left when the guide never showed up at the allotted time. How do I get a refund?

Hola me surge la duda, si en el recorrido entran los monumentos más importantes como el reloj Eastgate, el ayuntamiento, catedral .....que nos den una pequeña información de los mismos sin entrar además del anfiteatro. Muchas gracias.
