- KeepTravelling9990 contributionsWell worth doing29/9/2022 'Thomas' was impressive in his Longbowman outfit which made it all the more realistic. We learnt a lot and he showed us how he used his tools of the trade and other artefacts. He took us to many places and pointed out interesting areas. There is a lot of walking but it is well worth it.Written 30 September 2022

Thomas was our guide we were lucky it was only myself and my husband, Thomas was a wealth of knowledge we had his full attention. It was especially good as Thomas was in character the whole time telling is about his job and going into battle it was brilliant. We walked around chester to places we hadn't seen before including inside St John's Cathedral we would highly recommend to anyone we really enjoyed it and will be back to do the Roman.

Thomas was such an engaging and endearing guide this this highly educational and wonderful tour! We had this tour on a monday in the off-peak season which is a big ask, but he was so delighted to be out with us from the start.
No mater what question asked he had a bright grin and a ready answer. He loves history and it shows in how much he knows about the area and the medieval history. He was so engaging with his story telling, he involved us all in it and made it real, pitting his crowd against each other in such a unique fashion it had us all laughing one minute and shaking our fists at each other the next! I myself was King Richard who loathed the dastardly Bolingbroke, who that day was a charming and apologetic American on an outing with his very sweet family.
I never cared for history in school or in those educational tv shows but this was so outside how we usually consume the past I would highly recommend it even to someone who isn't invested in the past. You will be whisked up in the events of the dramas of by-gone years with Thomas' easy and lovely demeanour.

Thomas the longbowman was our guide on a Sunday afternoon for this consistently interesting, fun and enjoyable walk through the history of Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V in 14th to 15th century Chester.
There were tales of battles, backstabbing and more with Thomas providing unique company throughout.
A very keen and enthusiastic guide meant we were never without a smile on our face and we were left with a huge amount of historical knowledge gained and a greater understanding of how Chester was in the time period covered.
We learnt about the churches, the rivalries, the Rows and much much more.
Authentic costume worn by Thomas added an extra treat to this 5 star experience with artefacts from yesteryear providing extra interest, with the opportunity to examine these closely. A real treat!
With Thomas always keen to answer questions as fully as possible, taking a guided historical walk with this longbowman comes highly recommended.
Do not miss!
We will be back to enjoy another tour when we return to Chester, without a doubt!

Outstanding!
We had a fantastic tour with Edward on Saturday interning fun and a great way to see Chester.
The city was brought to Medieval times with Edwards fantastic story telling as we walked around stopping at various places of interest. We would highly recommend this tour a great alternative.

We were a party of 10 , all friends. We were led through the city and along part of the wall for the best part of 1 1/2 hours by a enthusiastic medieval knight. His knowledge was impressive and entertaining. I don’t remember his name, but he grew up in Surrey, well done.

This was a good way to learn about the Medieval period of English history. The chronology bobbed around a bit - between Richard Ii, Henry IVand Henry V back and forth. The guide ( in character as a Cheshire longbowman of 1398) was extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the period and had an interesting collection of props and artefacts to illustrate his tales.
We were previously unaware of the role Chester played at this time so this broadened our understanding of its role as a border city.

We got stuck in traffic and missed the Roman tour. So I called Roman tours and spoke to Cathlan. He booked my family and I on the medieval tour instead. I am glad he did. The tour guide Roland was dressed as a Cheshire bowman in armour and was greeted us by the visitor center. This is one of the best tours my family and I have been on.
He explained so much of the history on this tour and my whole family and I loved every moment. We learned so much and he also explained a lot about the great battles, showed us a lot of artefacts including arrow heads and the weapons. He also talked a lot about how Kings, knights, squires, lords and others lived during those times and I am a big fan of this period. The food of the time was also explained very well. He captured the attention span of my kids very well and they loved the whole experience. Thank you Roland for this amazing tour, which was a highly immersive experience.

We went in not knowing exactly what to expect. I'm a fan of medieval history but not very well versed in British history since I'm from Italy. So even given my lack of knowledge, the tour was very interesting. Thomas is a very driven and passionate fellow, who knows his stuff and is ready to engage and explain the historical and more human side of the events that made Chester a relevant part of the late Middle Ages.
The whole tour is though out and acted, in a way, through the eyes of the average peasant and what was it like to be a lowborn longbowman. Thomas was fully dressed as a longbowman of the period and, throughout the tour, he would also showcase the relevant equipment, making it a lot more "immersive" if you will.
Overall great experience and our stay in Chester wouldn't have been the same without it.

We went on a Medieval tour with Eddie yesterday and it was fantastic! Eddie was really enthusiastic, knowledgeable and patient, he explained everything in great detail and allowed us to ask questions. We learnt so much about the city's history and how life in Medieval Chester would have been. Brilliant!

This walking tour was fantastic. Richard and Steven were friendly, enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable. They brought the medieval history of Chester to life, with detailed but easy to follow information on the story of Harry Hotspur and his links with Chester. Authentic artefacts so that we could really appreciate what they were telling us. One of the guys was giving this tour for the first time - you would never have known this if they hadn’t told us. Brilliant tour, easy walking. Highly recommend.
