About
A tour of Swanaford Vineyard gives visitors a fascinating insight into growing grapes and making wine in England. Visitors will walk through the vines, seeing the five varieties that we grow on site, including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier which are the traditional champagne grapes. A visit in the spring will allow visitors to see the vines emerging from winter hibernation, with new shoots forming on the recently pruned vines. In high summer or early autumn, expect lots of vigorous growth and, of course, grapes! The vineyard is set in a beautiful valley within the Dartmoor National Park and is surrounded by breathtaking countryside.
Our group sizes are kept deliberately small to ensure that each visitor has a comfortable and engaging experience. Our guides are all highly knowledgeable and extremely friendly. We welcome questions and are happy to talk about all aspects of vineyard management and winemaking.

As well as our yoga sessions from our wonderful London based instructor Frankie Arpino, who arranged the Devon retreat, we had a tour of the vinyards and a delicious wine tasting; we had a walk through the woods; we explored the gorgeous countrywide and went wild swimming in the super clean river. The cottage was so lovely I would've moved in permanently (husband might have objected tho). Spacious, beautifully maintained, decorated, comfortable and so clean. i was sorry to leave after just two nights and can't recommend the Swanaford Vinyard enough (they have several cottages and a big barn for retreat activities)Written 20 July 2023
- RichardKll0 contributionsA perfect English summer's afternoon wanderWe have visited the Swanaford Vineyard two years running in July, and it is a lovely quiet place to spend a relaxed, sunny afternoon. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about the wine-making process on the Vineyard Tour and being allowed to go and get lost in the 10,000 vines (literally!). The tasting was very generous and all the wines were delicious. We didn't feel any pressure to buy, but we've left with a case of the sparkling Rose both times! It's our new favorite fizz. This year we will be visiting Devon in September and it will be fascinating to see how much bigger the vines and grapes become, before they start harvesting in October. Such a beautiful spot and truly excellent wines. Tim was hugely knowledgeable about the wine-making process, as well as the history of the vineyard, founded and run by Caroline and Ben. The wines were exceptional - we particularly enjoyed the Classic Cuvée and the delicious Estate White. Beautiful tasting barn and outdoor seating area too. We were excited to visit the beautiful Swanaford Vineyard and it didn't disappoint! Caroline & Ben were on hand to do the tour as there was a mix up with the times, but we had an excellent visit with our friends and it was interesting to learn about the process and hard work that goes into making the lovely wine we tasted. We wish them all the best for the future!
