- burrowes10 contributionsAbsolute Must For Fawlty Towers FansWe can't say enough good things about these English Riviera Walking Tours. Last year we had a wonderful Agatha Christie walking tour with Graham, We had such a great time that we came back again this year. This time we did the newly added "Don't Mention the War Tour". For anyone who's a "Fawlty Towers" fan this tour is an absolute must. Being big fans of this highly popular show, and John Cleese, we were surprised at how much we had forgotten, it was so much fun reminiscing and recalling the many hilarious episodes of this show. And of course, next year we'll be back again for more of these delightful wonderful tours. Thank you again Graham so very much for another wonderful memorable time. See you next year!Written 6 June 2024

The chance to enjoy and reminisce about one of the most iconic British comedy series of all time . Graham was the perfect guide - dressed for the occasion and an expert on all things Faulty . It was such fun looking at the various scenes and characters and Graham’s rich knowledge about the series , its actors and its legacy was outstanding. - Y893IKdavidr0 contributionsTime and money we'll spent.Graham is a wonderful host. He greeted us with a welcoming smile which immediately put us at our ease. His knowledge of the conception of Fawlty Towers, its characters and worldwide success made the one and a half hour tour fly by. He answered our questions with enthusiasm and asked if any of our group wished to act out certain famous sketches. A few of our groups would-be thespians duly obliged, greatly enhancing the overall experience. I didn't ask Graham's personal story but he is a great raconteur, a most engaging host.Written 23 March 2024
- DayTrip566614447080 contributionsGreat experience and highly recommended. Our guide Graham welcomed us all by name at the start of our walking tour and gave a short explanation of our time together and an opportunity to ask any questions. All 3 of us enjoyed our time on the tour which was informative and enjoyable. A very pleasant 2 1/2 hours and well worth the money. After the first 5mins walk we stopped regularly along the way to look at photo's and video clips, admire the views, and imagine the scenes being painted before us in words. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate. Thank you.Written 16 July 2023

Sept 2020
As every reviewer has written Graham is an outstanding guide. My wife and I took the Agatha Christie tour on Sept 23rd and thoroughly enjoyed it. Although we have read a few of her novels the majority of our knowledge of her works comes from TV and film. However, as a result of Graham's tour we have both promised to rectify that. We found Graham to be extremely informative but also presented the information as if we were friends out for an afternoon walk in a very relaxed, small group. Graham took us around a number of locations which we had already seen during out stay but had no idea what they actually were which was an added bonus for us. At the end of the tour he was also kind enough to spend some time with us discussing the best places to eat and visit for the remainder of our stay. Therefore, I would recommend Graham as being an essential part of anyone's stay in Torquay and will be going on another tour with him when we return. His tour was definitely a highlight of our stay. Thank you!!

What a wonderful review! Thank you so much. Having launched English Riviera Walking Tours this year, it's so rewarding to know that the content of the walk provides guests with an intriguing insight into Agatha's amazing life. It was a pleasure to have met you both and hopefully you'll book another walk next time you visit Torquay PS: the title of the review made me smile!

The tour lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes, and we finished taking a photo of Miss Marple and Poirot in Torquay train station. We didn't know much about Aghata Christie or Torquay, but we started with the desire to learn more about the author. The tour and the city were both fantastic, and we barely noticed the passage of time.
Graham is a fantastic tour guide, and we will almost certainly return.
I wholeheartedly recommend this tour to Agatha Christie fans and non-fans alike.

We were a party of 9 friends holidaying near Kingswear in September 2023. One of our group spotted an advertisement for this walking tour on FB back in April 2023 and we all thought this would be good. I made contact with Graham a week before our trip and he advised a couple of dates where he would be able to accommodate the 9 of us (maximum for each tour is 12). It was well worth booking in advance to secure our outing on a convenient day and avoid disappointment. Communication with Graham was easy and prompt via email initially and nearer the time by text. We were met by Graham as arranged and paid him on the day for our tour tickets. The day was very hot and sunny and Graham was keen to make sure we stopped in shady spots when he was talking to us. Opportunities for drinks, ice cream and toilets were pointed out as we went along. Graham was extremely knowledgable about both Agatha Christie and Torquay and we were enthralled by his every word. The 2.5 hours sped by! We would highly recommend this tour.

Our mid-August stay in Torquay developed into a far greater experience than we had anticipated, and this is in part thanks to this comprehensive tour. In addition to the beautiful views and best fish and chips we’ve had - our 3 hour tour of Agatha Christie’s relationship with Torquay by our very knowledgable and enthusiastic guide Graham, was the icing on the cake of our trip.
Enjoying a beautiful walk along the harbour and up at greater heights, we enjoyed anecdotes not just about Christie’s life but about Torquay’s history as well.
My family and I all agreed that this was the highlight of our trip, and we’d recommend it to anyone wanting to enjoy a surprisingly fun-filled, coastline tour of Christie’s long and incredible life, alongside insights into Torquay’s history we had not anticipated.

I really enjoyed this tour. I'm not particularly an Agatha Christie fan, but I am an enthusiastic reader so thought I'd give the tour a try, and I'm so glad I did. I went along on one of the hottest days of the year, but Graham adapted the route to take that into account (stopping off in all the shady spots, diverting for ice creams, avoiding the hilly parts), and for anyone concerned about the pace, it is fairly gentle with several chances to sit down. The information about Agatha is fascinating and delivered well; Graham is careful to involve the whole group and made a point of speaking to the children. I would absolutely recommend it - it was my first ever walking tour and I will definitely book for one of the others when I'm next in Torquay. And it has motivated me to read the several Agatha Christie books that have been on my bookshelf for years! Thank you Graham!

It's such a thrill, as a tour guide, to receive a review like this! To know that a guest has been inspired to blow the dust off her Agatha Christie novels, is so uplifting. Thank you for posting a well considered feedback.

We were visiting Torquay for the first time, from Canada, and one of us is a big Agatha Christie fan. Graham's tour was a lot of fun. It is well researched, incorporates other interesting features of the city's waterfront in addition to the story of Agatha Christie's life and how she influenced and was influenced by this beautiful community. Graham is a lot of fun to spend time with and overall it was a good choice on our part to take this walking tour. Would happily take another tour led by Graham in the future. At 3.5 hours in length it's longer than most (perhaps all) other walking tours we've ever taken.

I am sitting here this evening having spent three hours with Graham this afternoon. My husband and I are still talking about this fabulous Agatha Christie walk.
From the initial booking I knew it was going to be a good tour. Graham kept in touch with plans, with a checking "all still on" message the day before. We met as arranged exactly on time and having done the introductions set off. We were the only two on the talk, which meant we were able to exchange far more stories than being in a bigger group. It soon became apparent that Graham was both knowledgeable and passionate about his subject. Armed with a folder of photographs and quotes we made our way along the seafront stopping to hear details of Agatha's life.
We didn't know a great deal about her as a person, mainly our knowledge came from Poirot reruns on TV. But for us, the details were exactly at the right level, enough to be interesting without being a sermon of dates and facts.
three hours flew by. We had swapped stories, deviated a bit off topic (our doing mainly!) and had quite a few laughs. Even if you are not the biggest Agatha fan you will certainly get something from this. She was definitely a very interesting woman and we have been convinced that she requires more recognition for her pioneering attitude.
We have been on very many walks in towns and cities across the world and Graham was up there with the best.

Excellent three hours spent in the company of the very knowledgeable Graham. He brought the story of Agatha Christie to life and he kept us all interested from start to finish. Pay attention as he does ask questions! This was, by far, the best walking tour we have been on.

We had a wonderful tour with Graham end of October 2021. Graham did an amazing job providing us with fun and interesting information about Agatha - we really felt we got to know her at a more personal level. Graham was punctual, polite, informative, funny and very accommodating - also for my 12-year old son. An absolute delight for any Agatha Christie lovers!

Wow, what a tour! Graham takes you back to the life of Agatha with enthousiasm, knowledge en lots of fun. The stops are done at pivotal moments of Agatha's life in Torquay and with Graham's storytelling it's almost as if you go back in time. You get to explore her life and bits of who and what inspired her. He also quizes you on your Agatha knowledge in a fun way...so be prepared ;). We had a great time and would recommend it highly!!

The only thing I can think of is there is a lot of standing at different sites so if that's ok with you you should be fine.

We took a dog with us and it was fine. Graham is brilliant. I’m sure if you called him he’s be fine about it, but I suppose it depends on others in the group; or you have a private tour with him. It’s worth doing!
