Our guide, Samuel, was excellent. He is friendly and extremely well informed about the history of Portsmouth. We very much enjoyed the walking tour which we found both entertaining and informative. Samuel was able to bring to life many of the various characters that had contributed to the building of Portsmouth as well as pointing out many buildings of architectural interest. This tour was good value for money and we would recommend it to others who have an interest in history.

Samuel took our tour, last Sunday. This was our first visit to Portsmouth for a autumnal holiday. We had exceptionally mild weather and a beautiful warm sunshine, it was a grand day.
Samuel was very prompt and as no one else had booked we had a a private tour guide. It is exceptional value for money and the tour took us around places, snickleways and alleys that we would have never known existed. He is a wealth of information and very knowledgeable on everything Portsmouth.
We really enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend this experience to visitors and locals alike. Thankyou for a fabulous afternoon with a difference.

Can’t believe how much history I’ve just taken in during a 90min walking tour. I’ve lived in or near the city all my life but all of this tour was insightful and interesting.
Regardless of if your visiting this city or live there you should get this tour on your list of to dos as it’s great value for money and a different way to enjoy the Old Portsmouth part of the city.
Our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate about the details and painted such a vivid image of the areas history.

Went on this fantastic tour of Old Portsmouth on a drizzly Saturday morning for something to do, and the poor weather was quickly forgotten within minutes as we were immersed in the history of Portsmouth. Although living in the area for years and thinking we knew the history of the place, we were treated to what was a thoroughly entertaining and informative morning with our tour guide Sam. His excellent knowledge and insight to the gruesome and colourful history of the city, people and places made this a great choice for something to keep the kids and adults in the group entertained. The tour starts at the original gate to the city and takes you though a thousand years of history. Sam is clearly a very knowledgeable local historian and backs up his research and knowledge with lots of interesting facts and stories. Thanks for a fab couple of hours and with the option of finishing off in one of the city’s original taverns this tour is highly recommend.

Had the most amazing, informative and hugely entertaining tour with the fabulous Samuel. From start to finish total enjoyment. Such a brilliant tour guide who clearly not only knows his history of the area but delighted in passing on his knowledge, Samuel was really open to questions and engaging with his audience throughout. If visiting Portsmouth this tour of Old Portsmouth is a must. Thoroughly recommend both the tour and guide.

My husband and I recently took the "Old Portsmouth Historical Walking Tour - An Infernal Den of Diabolical Demons," and despite the ominous name, it was an absolute blast, all thanks to our fantastic guide, Samuel. He was a history buff through and through, and even the pouring rain couldn't dampen his enthusiasm. Samuel's storytelling skills were top-notch, and he effortlessly transported us back in time with his tales of Old Portsmouth's dark past. What really impressed me was how he made sure we were comfortable and engaged throughout the tour, despite the weather. He checked in on us regularly, answered all our questions, and turned a rainy day into an unforgettable adventure. So, if you're into history and want a memorable experience, don't let the spooky title scare you away. Samuel's passion and knowledge made this tour a fantastic journey through Portsmouth's intriguing history.

When I first met Sam it was apparent that he had a real passion for Portsmouth and its history. Sam braved the cold and walked and talked about many of the sites we were familiar with but he ‘brought them to life’. It goes without saying I’d do this again in the summer when we could stop in one of the local eateries and make a full day of our visit to Portsmouth. Well done Sam!

This was a great way to spend a couple of hours on a sunny Saturday morning.. Samuel is a very friendly engaging, knowledgeable and funny (sort of!) guide.. Willing to let his audience engage throughout and in fact encouraging it.. Although my wife is Portsmouth born and bred and I have been visiting for nearly 40 years on a regular basis we still discovered many interesting facts.. The tour lasted about 90 mins in total which was just right.. We met up at Landport Gate.. A very historical gateway into the old city.. We then progressed around Old Portsmouth and its interesting environs.. Finishing eventually up on the Point.. Or Spice Island..
If you are considering an introduction into old Portsmouth history this is a great way to start.. Throughly reccomend this and for the price it's a complete no brainer! Thanks Samuel and good luck with the future..

We thought we knew the area, but we learned many new things as we wandered about the pretty streets. A fascinating tour with a knowledgeable guide. With great humour, Sam reminded us of the rich history of the city and drew our attention to things we had not really noticed before. Definitely worth doing ☺️

I come from Portsmouth and have a keen interest in local history but I was really impressed with the knowledge of the guide and came away with new information on places I have been to many times.
The guide Sam had a great delivery, was happy to answer questions and you could tell he knw his stuff, I have no doubt he could do the tour numerous times and give different information on each tour.
Sam is a teacher and you can tell he has a natural affinity with children, he was able to engage them whilst also appealing to the adults in the group.
It was great to see Portsmouth through the eyes of a historian with great knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject, it really gave me a different perspective. Who knew all Portsmouth most famous icons hated it so much!
I took my 11 and 13 year old with me and they both enjoyed it.
