Fantastic pottery experience in a great location
A really enjoyable two-day course with Jon & Sarah; Jon (who did the demonstrations) is a brilliant pottery teacher and very generous with his knowledge, packing in lots of useful information and different techniques. Learned a lot in two days and came away totally enthused about pottery. Highly recommended.

Friendly relaxed creative things to do
Brilliant afternoon spent with an 8yr old and 12yr old and if I didn't have a baby in tow I could have easily slotted in too! Upbeat yet relaxed atmosphere, gentle and friendly guidance and a great creative afternoon had by all. Stunning surroundings - if the weather was better we would have walked nearby in Eastnor deer park too!

You'd be Potty Not To. (Sorry)
What a smashing weekend. Excellent tuition in an art form as old as the hills; exceptionally patient and accommodating course leaders; lots of humour. And, extraordinarily, some recognisable pots at the end. Highly recommended for curious types. Warning: have a go, but you might get hooked.

Excellent day course learning to throw pots
Fabulous day spent learning the art of throwing pots using a wheel. Never tried this before and always wanted to. Great demonstrations and supportive, encouraging teaching from Jon and Sarah. It was a really fun gift and would very much recommend Eastnor Pottery.

      Fabulous bucketlist experience
Had such a fantastic time learning and making clay pots with my Mum. Sarah and Jon are so friendly and patient and I even managed to make something half decent! I wish I lived closer as I would love to come back and practise some more.

      Potter’s wheel day course
I was gifted a Potter’s Wheel day course, the day was brilliant from start to finish. The teachers Jon and Sarah were supportive, good humoured and very enthusiastic, any question answered and help provided. Demonstrated first by Jon, then we spent the morning throwing small pots learning skills along the way. After lunch after Jon showed how to use larger amounts of clay and try for a plate or larger bowl, surprising results, some good and some hilarious! I left with two items chosen from many to fire, glaze and post on to me. Throughly enjoyed my day, and would love to do the two day course in the future.

      Brilliant Potters wheel day course
Had a brilliant day at Eastnor Pottery. Jon and Sarah make you very welcome and are very knowledgeable and patient teachers. Great fun learning how to use the potters wheel and make our pots. Met some lovely people and we all had a great day. Can’t wait to see my creations which will be delivered home once they’ve been fired and glazed. Thanks for a wonderful day

      Brilliant experience
Jon and Sarah were lovely people and great teachers. I loved how they gave guidance and encouragement but also just let us experiment. We had a full day - the time flew and I honestly could’ve stayed for another day. The pottery studio is lovely, and the area is beautiful. Highly recommend to anyone who is starting out and wants an opportunity to learn and practice with non-judgemental, kind, true artists. Great value for money when you realise how much you get.

Full day pottery wheel experience - Awesome!
A full day on the wheel. Such a fun and rewarding experience. Jon & Sarah were great at explaining and encouraging and drawing out the best in class members. Plenty of time to experiment and move at your own pace. A thoroughly enjoyable day.

      Pottery Wheel Introduction
I organised and bought this as a birthday experience for my friends. We were a bit apprehensive as to what to expect but we needn't have worried from the moment we arrived we were make to feel so welcome and at ease by Sarah & Jon. It was a fantastic experience, such great fun and a lovely bunch of people in our group. Jon & Sarah are so attentive and helpful, averting any disasters into recognisable pots. Would strongly recommend this experience to everyone and will be back for longer next time. If your stuck for a gift for someone book this experience. Thank-you so much we all loved it.

      A fun and creative weekend.
I enjoyed the one-day course a year ago and enjoyed it so much that my wife sent me on the two-day course as a retirement present. I am no artist, but Jon and Sarah are brilliant teachers; they maintain high positivity throughout the course and find the creativity in each individual. Both the 1- and 2-day course are excellent but the 2-day is so much more than twice the fun and reward of the single day. And the Eastnor estate is a beautiful space in which to spend a weekend.

My husband booked us both on a 1 day pottery course as a birthday present for me and we were very unsure of what to expect, thankfully we were greeted by a lovely couple Sarah and Jon who run the course and also have their studio there. The studio is in a small country village setting with race horses in the fields and lots of pheasants wandering around, so it was a beautiful touch to be able to eat our lunch in their garden area.
The studio is large with lots of rooms where you can see the fantastic work that Sarah and Jon have created and sell. The workshop was spacious and contained everything you need for the class. (We hired an apron and towel for £5 each) There was also a supply of tea, coffee and water all through-out the day.
Sarah started the class by telling us a little about her and Jon and their history and how they came to start the pottery classes and then gave a demonstration on what we would be attempting. She gave really helpful tips and advice on what do do, then let us lose. It was great!!! I was nervous as I have never tried this before but spent the day learning, laughing and actually managed to create a few little pots. Sarah and Jon and there to offer advice and help you find your way with the clay but it is done in such a friendly way you actually forgot you were at a class. You get to pick 3 pieces made up of 1 piece of clay to be fired and glazed and then to be sent to your home address included in the price. If you want any additional pieces it is £6 per piece which is very reasonable.
Anyone who is thinking about booking a pottery course I would seriously recommend booking here. It is great fun and also very relaxing. I can not wait to do this again.

Thank you so much for this positive and comprehensive review. We had a blast didn't we! What a lovely group you were and it was a joy to see you both develop your potting skills over the course of the day. I think you two won the prize for the furthest traveled and I trust the rest of your stay in the shire was as delightful as your pottery experience. Thanks once again for choosing us and making the journey down South - we really appreciated your energy and vibe. Hope to see you again - maybe our x2 day potter's wheel extravaganza?

We had a great time. The staff gave us a warm welcome and immediately we felt relaxed. Jon delivered a good, detailed demonstration and there was a lot of information. However they made it easy to remember as you make a pot in clear steps with guidance all the time.
I found it hard as I needed to be more gentle with the clay, but it was good fun and therapeutic.
My son’s partner Kate was really good and amazed herself how well she had done for her first ever time using a potters wheel.
We both enjoyed the experience and although our end products were not that successful, we would recommend visiting for a fun session and with practice, we felt a lovely end product could be achieved.
    Thanks for a great time.

Thanks Janice :) We really enjoyed working with the group you and Kate were members of - like you say, lots of fun, laughter and positive vibes...even if the pots were a little shaky at times. (The wobbly ones are always the best in our opinion - loads of character.) Thanks for being great sports and making our job very easy indeed!

My wife and I originally booked this Virgin Experience back in 2019, but due to Covid we had to postpone our visit until 31st August 2022. Jon and Sara were extremely helpful when making the many changes to arrangements. When we arrived yesterday, Jon made us very welcome and fully explained what would be happening during our visit. When it was our turn to 'have a go', Jon was very watchful to try to make sure we didn't make a complete hash of our creations. Our first attempts were 'interesting' (to say the least!) but our second attempts were not bad at all and we decided we would like to have them fired and sent on to us. Having a go at throwing a pot is something we have had on our bucket list for many years, and we finally made it in time for our 53rd Wedding Anniversary! Well done Eastnor Pottery for providing such excellent facilities for would be potters like us.
We thoroughly recommend this experience for all those that would like to have a go.
Please note that working with wet clay can be quite messy, so we recommend taking some old clothes you can change into. An apron will protect you from the worst, but it's quite likely you will get splashes on sleeves, trousers/legs and shoes. There is a changing room if you need it.

Thank you so much for this review Ed. Your visit was a long time coming for sure and we are so pleased you felt it was worth the wait - we enjoyed working with you both. It is amazing how participants develop their skills from pot #1 to pot #2. Throwing on the wheel is an accumulative skill and every pot gets a little bit better and technique a little bit sharper - as you proved magnificently. Your lovely results will be fired, glazed and delivered to your door. Well done for sticking with it and Happy Anniversary! :)

How much fun was that! We had a whole day (6 hours) of learning how to do basic clay throwing and had a very enjoyable day. The pottery is in a great location at the edge of The Malvern Hills and the workshop is a lovely place to experience the delights of pottery making. Jon and Sarah were so enthusiastic and were great teachers - we were absolute novices and they were very patient and very supportive. There were more experienced potters in the group but everybody supported each other. A great experience - highly recommended.

The pots were pretty decent too and we'd love to welcome you back to do more....maybe a career in studio pottery beckons!? Thanks once again for taking the time to review your day with us, your comments are always appreciated. :)

We purchased 2 x Introduction to the Potters Wheel via Virgin Experience Days as a Christmas gift last year for my in-laws. The idea being we would accompany them so they both had maximum time on the wheel.

We arrived and were greeted by Sarah. Super friendly and with a great sense of humour, she gave an introduction and then settled at the wheel to begin our lesson in how to throw a pot. Then it was our turn and that’s where the fun really began! We were supposed to have two goes each but we gave my in-laws 3 and we had one. It was so much fun! The clay misbehaved a few times and flew off the wheel! At the end we each selected a pot to be fired and collected in around 6 weeks.

Do wear older clothes and take a take a jumper as the outside space is a bit fresh. Try not to have long nails… bottomless pots aren’t a thing apparently!! Would definitely recommend.

Bottomless pots, flying clay.... Sounds like you had a blast!! Thanks you so much for this lovely review Sarah - really captures the fun, humour and positivity of our Introduction to the Potter's Wheel Class. My daughter aged 14, who happens to have Downs Syndrome, went with her support PA to Eastnor pottery session for an hour and a half this week so I could get on with school planning work.

She had an absolutely amazing time and was treated like anyone else. She’s really looking forward to getting her creation through the post and putting them on display in the house.

    Thank you again.

Awh, that's so nice to hear OCHUGHES. Your daughter and her support were an absolute pleasure and we enjoyed working with them just as much as they enjoyed their visit. Her creation was amazing and will look even more brilliant once it's been fired and glazed. We hope she'll visit us again in the next school holiday when we offer the clay modelling sessions for families. Thanks for reviewing and the photos are excellent btw :)

From start to finish, what a brilliant day, only complaint is that it went too fast!Firstly,we were made extremely welcome by Jon and his wife.We were given tea/coffee and a quick intro to the group(7 of us,all abilities) and shown some of the owners work,we were given equipment and our own wheels, before cracking on with the fun bit.Jon gave a skillful demo full of useful tips and assisted us all day, very friendly and helpful guy!Lunch was very tasty and fresh, buffet style,we couldn't resist getting back to the wheel though, to progress to larger lumps of clay. This is really a fab day out(10-4.30),for all ages and abilities. My husband as not the 'crafty' type and was somewhat dragged along but he throughly enjoyed the day and has requested, we go back!Myself and my husband have stressful, busy lives but the pottery really makes you leave all that at the door and totally relax, unwind and enjoy the process, all of course aided and guided by a throughly lovely, genuine, talented couple! There is an extra charge for pots that you can't bare to leave behind, but you do get to keep up to three pieces in with the initial price (fired and sent to you later),we also hired aprons and towels at the pottery £5per item, saves taking home washing.Old clothes are a must but it is lovely and warm in the pottery so don't bulk up.Ample parking and well sign posted, also directions are emailed to you pre-visit which we found helpful.I've wanted to try my hand at pottery for many years but never took the plunge...I'm extremely glad that I chose to start my throwing adventure at the Eastnor pottery, they've really sparked off my passion for the art.
Well done to all at the Eastnor pottery,in the words of Arnnie,"I'll be back!".

WOW! what a lovely and comprehensive review. Only sorry it's taken us over five months to locate and enjoy your lovely comments. Can we offer you a position on the Eastnor Pottery Tourist Board?! Your words have been a real tonic, and a lovely reminder of what we strive to achieve here at EP, particularly as we get going again after lockdown. We've hosted one potter's wheel course so far since the re-start which couldn't have gone any better - so when you're properly ready to get messy again, there is a potter's wheel with your name on it!...and at a bargain half price too! Thanks once again - you've made our day x

If you wish to try something new and totally out of your comfort zone then I would really recommend this activity. The course is run by a very personable couple in attractive surroundings. The demonstrations and subsequent encouragement in a lighthearted atmosphere make you believe that you can actually produce a reasonable result even if you can’t !!

A lovely location, a rainy day but the outside Marquee was up to the task and it was quite cosy in there. If the castle is open you could spend a good few hours round here. We were off Cider touring after this so our schedule was busy enough.
Nice atmosphere. A professional, friendly tutor. Just one other couple so felt we were given lots of time and attention too. 2 attempts and making something "fireable" and we both got something made. Can't wait for the finished products now. Would have been nice to be given a little more choice in terms of glaze finish as I'm not sure our "beige" creations will be challenging our Denby for aesthetic beauty. We do however appreciate that with so many potters to organise and to keep the experience as value for money one has to be realistic.

Thanks Chris :) and you're spot on, the Potting Tent makes for a cosy environment, especially in the Summer rain. The bunting, festoon lights and standing lamps make for a atmospheric, relaxing and creative experience. Sorry the colour of the glazed, natural clay is not to your personal taste. We consider the warm 'Cotswold Stone' effect a neutral affair, designed to fit in with most contemporary interiors. We appreciate it's not going to please everybody but I'm sure you'll find a home for your fab creations - even if it isn't amongst your collection of Denby! Thanks once again for reviewing your time with us and we hope to welcome you back to the Pottery in the future. :)

Such a wonderful day, so glad we came on this course. The atmosphere was relaxed and that put us at ease straight away, the perfect conditions for learning. Jon and Sarah are wonderful teachers and so attentive. We learned so much in a short space of time. It really gives you an insight into the skills involved in pottery. We would highly recommend this course to anyone as it is a brilliant and informative introduction to this art.

Thank you so much James and we are made up you enjoyed your day with us. You are bang-on about the rate of learning. So many new skills, so much insight in such a short space of time. Thank you also for commenting on the environment we create. We find people learn faster in a relaxed and positive atmosphere and the small number of participants (no more than x8) ensures the tuition is tailored to each and every individual. Win win win! Thank you once again for recommending Eastnor Pottery and the Flying Potter
