About the operator

- KevinZ8240 contributionsGreat Canebury Tale experienceMy wife and I did this tour with guide Lindsey. It was a bracing day and with only one other attendee it would have been understandable if this was low key. However, throughout Lindsey showed great energy. We liked the way she showed pictures of Roman times to help with context. The graphic story of Thomas Beckett at the venue bought the story to life. We were at the Marlowe theatre the night before and appreciated the Thomas Marlowe story outside the venue. The attention to detail was excellent. It was a fun educational tour.Written 5 January 2025

- martingD9523QS0 contributionsUnvergessliche Tour durch CanterburyWe were lucky with the weather, which is not a given at the end of October, and so our guide Adrian was waiting for us at the Buttermarket in wonderful sunshine. I can say that I was thrilled with the tour. The places where we stopped to listen to Adrian's remarks were very well chosen. Canterbury has a long and very interesting history, dating back to the Romans and the Middle Ages to modern times. Adrain was excellent at taking us all along on this journey so that we could visualize the eras and events. In addition to the historical facts, he also repeatedly included intelligent and humorous anecdotes that made us laugh, making it a very entertaining tour. Thank you very much, Adrian, and my best recommendation!Written 3 November 2024

This was our first trip to the glorious city andwe wanted to make the most and learn as much about the place as possible. Our guide, Amanda, who is a local, was full of the facts and created a very interesting route, explaining the history of the place from its earliest days.
The city has so many interesting buildings, of all ages. Things we would not have noticed were pointed out and other interesting things told about, the meaning of living on a shoe string, and eaves dropping for example, we did take it in!
The centre is compact and it is possible to see a lot within the two hours, we were not rushed but perhaps another half hour would have allowed us to see a bit more,
The tour was really interesting, informative and we would recommend it to first comers so they can really appreciate what they are looking at. It added a lot to our enjoyment of our stay in the city

Our guide was just phenomenal.
It was clear from the get go that our guide, Katrin (my sincere apologies if I’ve misspelled the name), not only holds a great passion and enthusiasm for history but that she truly enjoys regaling her audience with her knowledge of it.
We found Katrins narration both friendly and informative and we thoroughly enjoyed our time spent learning about Canterburys wealth of history.
I’d highly recommend a tour of Canterbury, it’s a beautiful city steeped in character and charm.

I believe the guide, Collin, was excellent. Not just because of his historical knowledge of the events but also the way he told the story to maintain the group's attention for what was nearly 1.5 hours guided tour. We were taken to many interesting sites and I would definitely recommend this guided tour.

I was disappointed by how much time was spent inside the precincts of the Canterbury Cathedral. The tour went into the Cloisters and Chapter House, areas that I had already visited during the course of my morning tours in Canterbury. I had already used the official Cathedral Audio guide that visited and explained these areas, and done a specialized Stained Glass tour that explained the stained glass in the cloisters and chapter house.
The portions of this tour that explained the ruins on the grounds of the cathedral, and the streets and buildings in the remainder of Canterbury were what I was expecting, and what I found interesting. I took the tour to see these other areas of Canterbury. The guide was very knowledgeable about those areas of Canterbury. I would encourage the tour operator to revamp the tour to make the entire 1.5 hours focus on areas outside the cathedral.
For people considering this tour, as currently constituted, I would only recommend it if you are not also planning a separate tour of the cathedral.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your guided tour and for your feedback. We are very proud to include the Precincts of the Cathedral as part of our walking tours, as the Cathedral is such as integral part of Canterbury and its history. On this occasion it is unfortunate that you had already experienced the Cloisters during your tours with the Cathedral itself and it was therefore duplicated, however I am pleased you enjoyed the other aspects of the Precincts and the city. Please be assured we will take on board your comments for the future development of our tours.

Enjoyed our tour with guide Sam who was very knowledgable and entertaining. We booked the 90 minute tour of Canterbury online and it was as promised. Guide Sam invited questions along the way and was well-grounded in his facts and added a good blend of folktale which everyone on the tour enjoyed. I appreciated Sam striking the perfect balance between the history of the past and more current which added to his well-rounded presentation and enhanced our understanding of this amazing city. I would highly recommend this tour and suggest it be a part of your Canterbury experience.

Very easy to book online. Meeting instructions are clear and uses a recognisable landmark, the Buttermarket, to find your guide. Amanda was extremely knowledgeable, took us on a walk through the precinct of the cathedral and Canterbury’s historic centre. She was able to point out many things we would not have picked up on just using a guidebook. A relaxed and friendly guide that made me feel welcome. Thoroughly recommend this experience. It lasted 90 minutes and was a gentle walking pace, so suitable for most age groups.

At very short notice we did the Official Canterbury Guided Walking Tour. Our guide was a young German lady, Kirsten, whose English was stunningly good, her knowledge of Canterbury excellent and her knowledge of British history spectacular. We are serious history buffs and could not fault her explanations of Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Norman, Tudor and modern day Canterbury in some detail, as well as talking about Geoffrey Chaucer and Christopher Marlowe.
The commentary was delivered with wit and humour, and a straight face when one of the American tourists asked if Henry Vlll was Anglo-Saxon (well, I suppose he partly was!!)
A great tour, thoroughly recommended by us.

We were fortunate to have the deeply knowledgeable Adrian as our guide. He brought the whole of European history into a Canterbury context, and we were enthralled by his dramatic story telling. He was also kind enough to point out spots for us to sit (greatly appreciated).

This tour was wonderful, Adrian is a superb guide -- with many fascinating stories and insights. He spoke clearly and kept things moving, balancing broad historical perspectives with details and specifics that were interesting and relevant.
We've been on many walking tours, and this was absolutely one of the very best. Most highly recommended!

Worth the money, £10, by far. The guide was welcoming, friendly and very knowledgeable. With that said the stream of historical information was thick and sometimes....sometimes left ones head spinning and losing the plot.
Canterbury has such a rich historic tale to tell the knowledge our guide tried to impart was difficult due to its mass, but he made a grand mostly successful effort.
My only real criticism or advice is to help in hearing the guide. Between the weather and street noise, one had to make an effort to lean in hard and listen. Suggestion would be the small radios with ear pieces used by guides in Kotor Montenegro which allow good audio without being 3 feet away. Otherwise do it!!

Hi, where does the tour end? Does it include Canterbury Cathedral or is that seperate?
Written 2 June 2022
Our tour finished at Chaucers Statue, on the High Street. The tour took us into the cathedral grounds, but you have to purchase a separate ticket to actually go into the cathedral building. The guided tour is great and we’d definitely recommend it.

I’d suggest you contact the tour people direct because some of the walk is within the Cathedral private grounds and they may have rules about pets entering.
