About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 809clarep0 contributionsTeam are absolute angels in disguise. The trip was brilliant, the views fab - the service, extra mile is an understatement. On the way, there was a terrible road accident that closed the road, the alternative was 40 min drive the other way around the lake, we weren't going to make our time slot to embark at Coniston. We decided to park in a layby, take a very off-road route to a smaller pick-up jetty, Torver I think (with a wheelchair - do not recommend). Anyway, made the time but they were running behind or ahead so it was a more expensive ticket route that came first, no problem, they helped us on and we went a bit further down the water, the children having a really lovely time. We got off at Coniston with now the view that the husband would get the ferry back later to Torver, walk up, get the car and drive back to Coniston to pick us up. Don't think you're technically supposed to do this on the ticket we had but the lovely people at Coniston Launch were more than happy to do this for us. Ahead of time, they even called my mobile to say, if we'd rather, they could arrange someone to drive us back to the car. So kind. Husband was actually keen for another (peaceful) boat trip so he went back to the jetty for the last trip. He went off, we waved. 15 mins or so later, my phone rings again - I have the car keys - noooo. By now they dropped off the last passengers and they COME BACK to Coniston with embarrassed husband, I throw him the keys and they take him back to Torver. I cannot imagine any other company would do this. Whilst I don't recommend you be as awful guests as us, I can confirm they will treat you like nothing is a problem.Written 13 January 2025

- lizgbox0 contributionsThe delights of the Coniston LaunchWe have had a wonderful trip on the water with Nat and Dave. Perfect sunny weather but very cold. Thankfully we were dressed warmly. Nat sailed brilliantly and Dave regaled us with a brilliant amusing and entertaining narrative, including current affairs! Thank you bothWritten 21 November 2024
- 443nja0 contributionsSuperbe ServiceFriday, November 15, 2024 at 12:00 - 13:00. We were the only passengers for this cruise so Dave sat next to us and gave a great personal account of Coniston Water plus the history, comings and goings of the area. A fantastic insight, above and beyond the call of duty. Many thanks to the crew for a fantastic trip. Neil and Frances.Written 16 November 2024
- lorrainesX7996UF0 contributionsLeisure break.Very friendly crew members Nat and Dave. Dave gave a commentary of the areas. Stopped off at Brantwood which had lots of history. Beautiful sunny day. 🌞. Recommend for a quick trip.Written 15 November 2024
- stephen l0 contributionsConsisting Lake is the starThis was a trip where Coniston Lake itself was the star ! The weather was perfect; bright blue sky, chilly air, the water like a sheet of glass. The launch was quiet and the crew gave us maximum opportunity to simply experience the tranquility. At the same time we were given enough information about Ransome’s Wildcat Island and Ruskin’s, Brantwood to keep us interested and informed. We stopped off at Brantwood for lunch in the excellent cafe/ bistro. It was warm enough( just) to sit outside and wonder at the view across to the Old Man of Coniston.. Ruskin”s house was delightful, as you might expect. Two and a half hours passed quickly, but if you intend stopping off at Brantwood you can easily allow enough time and as we did catch the last boat at 3.20. A final word of thanks to our “skipper” who allowed us a few minutes to park at the pay and display car park before setting off 4 minutes late!Written 13 November 2024
- ANN M R0 contributionsAutumn tripWe had a lovely trip all round the lake although we were unable to hop off at Brantwood as the water was too high. However we were still able to use our entry tickets but it meant driving after to Brantwood. The weather was glorious and the fells were clear in the sun. The information was interesting and enough so we could just enjoy the experience on the water.Written 23 October 2024
- F2505QEsarahw0 contributionsFantastic trip from Coniston to Torver on the launchWe took the Coniston launch from Coniston to Torver Jetty. It was fantastic. Well worth the money. We got to see the lake and hear some interesting local facts. We will definitely be using the launch again. Nat and Dave were brilliant - thank you for such a memorable trip.Written 18 October 2024

- Vacation132835849820 contributionsLovely way to pass an hour, in and out of the rain.Lovely relaxing way to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Conistan. Even in the pouring rain it was dry and comfy. Interesting guide with just the right amount of info and friendliness. A live narration, so much better than trips that just stick a tape on. All staff were friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.Written 17 October 2024

- 826craigb0 contributionsA lovely way to see ConistonWe sailed on a wet and blustery day, so enjoyed the shelter and warmth all the more for that, but a great way to see Coniston and the scenery around it. We were lucky enough to be the only 2 people on the boat for about 20 minutes between stops, Dave and Nat on the boat were really friendly giving some good local knowledge and history.Written 27 September 2024

We decided to go on the trip and booked easily online, just before the launch set off, which gave us a discount. The staff were friendly and helpful. Travelling by boat enabled us to admire and appreciate some of the beauty that the lake and surrounding areas have to offer. We stopped off at Brantwood and enjoyed a delicious scone and coffee before catching the next boat back to Coniston. An enjoyable experience which I would recommend!

We've often noticed these old style launch boats when visiting the Lake District but this was the first time we had booked one as previously used the larger boats on Windermere.
Dave on board gave an informative talk and explained about the Lakes significance with Donald Campbell and Bluebird, Swallows & Amazon's and we were dropped off at the Jetty for Ruskins house and later caught it back to return to the main launch site. Nat steered the boat and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Thanks for a good day plus the good weather was a bonus too.

The wind was a bit lively and the Lake was a bit choppy. Nat and David (the fantastic crew) said that the 1 o’clock cruise would be the last of the day (as the boat kept hitting against the jetty). They were brilliant - Nat steered the boat with ease and David commentated on some parts of the Lake. We were lucky that not many chose this sailing (maybe the weather put them off) so David was able to spend time giving us and a family on board extra information, which was very interesting. Can’t recommend it enough - we loved it!

We arrived at Coniston a couple of days after the storms so the water was too high for the launch to drop us off but that didn’t stop us from having a great time. We were the only 4 on the boat and were given a personal commentary of the lake as we cruised around. The crew , ( so sorry I’ve forgotten their names ) but the boat was driven by a young lady and a knowledgable retired chap who pointed out and offered detailed explanations of all of the sites we could see. My husband is a big racing fan so the details of the story of the Bluebird that were shared with us were particularly meaningful and came to life being out on the water. Thoroughly recommend this trip.

Just had a fantastic cruise around Coniston Water. The rain didn't dampen our spirits, It caused a mist over the surrounding the hills making them marvelously atmospheric.
We were entertained by Nat & Dave who were amazingly knowledgeable about everything Coniston related from Donald Campbell & Arthur Ransome to Brown trout & eels. I even got a few tips on different places to camp and launch my Kayak and books to read.

Absolutely amazing trip. We hopped on the last boat of the day for a tour round the North Half of the Lake (red cruise), skippered by Nat and Dave. We were the only ones aboard and Dave came and sat with us to talk us through all the stories and history of the Lake... Especially the Campbell and Bluebird story... His knowledge was great and his experiences made the trip feel extra special by taking the time to sit with us and talk over it all...
Thanks again to Dave and Nat and all the Coniston Launch team 😊

A really pleasant boat trip around Coniston lake, expertly piloted by Nat with David acting as our tour guide. The scenery was fabulous (and we even had a flyby from a chinook) but David's commentary on the history of the various landmarks around the lake, and the lake itself made it interesting and educational. Highly recommended.

We had a brilliant trip from Torver jetty over to Brantwood, home of John Ruskin, then on to Coniston Jetty and back to Torver. Nat and Dave really looked after us on the boat and Dave gave some interesting information about the lake and about Donald Campbell. Brantwood was also delightful, well worth a visit to the house and lovely grounds. All in all a great trip.

Excellent way to travel, learn about the area and admire the stunning views. We walked around the top of the lake but didn't have the 'legs' or time to go as far as we wanted so we jumped on the boat at Brantwood jetty for two stops (Coniston Launch and Torver). The boat is comfortable, indoor and outdoor seating areas, and the crew were welcoming, pleasant and informative. Couldn't think of a better way to discover Coniston.

Took my two young grandchildren and all three of us loved it, even if weather was a bit damp. The boat pilot and the hostess were very friendly and informative. They whetted our appetite to find out more about Donald Campbell so straight after the boat trip we went to the Ruskin Museum to find out more. A very enjoyable day out.
