The tour went to langdale valley, went on the lovely steam train a wonderful experience, felt like being on a hogwarts train. Then onto a round trip on the lakes by boat. Afterwards went to hawkeshead. Beautiful and breathtaking scenery, all made worthwhile with the knowledge and amazing upbeat character of Jean the guide and driver. Aside from his mastery of driving those tricky roads throughout the Dales, he consistently told good stories related to all the places along our way. Stef who was our driver and guide, was the most calm, kind, considerate, responsible and wonderful human being. His knowledge of the lakes, his little anecdotes along with his sense of humour kept us absolutely engaged. His passion and love for the region shines through as is his genuine desire to make this experience a great one for everyone on the trip. It’s great to leave the driving to someone else while you enjoy the stunning scenery. Peter was knowledgeable and friendly sharing information about the places visited which was really interesting. - V2362TIalans0 contributionsTen Lakes Tour.This is a tour not to be missed. Our driver, Steph, gave us a well paced and very Informed trip around the Fells and Lakes. I think It must take a certain kind of skill to negotiate the nail-bitingly narrow lanes around the fells and lakes and give a running commentary that's filled wirh passion and a depth of knowledge for the Lake District but Steph had that skill, knowledge and passion in abundance. I'm sure all the drivers/guides from Mountain Goat tours have had the same degree of training and that would ensure I would have no hesitation booking or recommending this or another of Mountain Goats tours.Written 6 October 2024

Despite the fact that all of us weren’t great with remembering the names of the lakes, I felt like our guide Tim spoke about the area in broken up doses which were digestible and much more engaging than many other tours I’ve done! He grew up among the lakes, and knows all the scenic spots and the long, winding, narrow roads that lead to them. (He's also a former paramedic, so you can feel safe everywhere on the tour, not just on the road). This is for the 10 Lakes Tour from Windermere.
Our tour was simply amazing. Our guide Stef was knowledgeable and courteous and showed passion for the tour and acknowledged each individual on the tour. Stef even assisted with our car parking situation upon our arrival at the meeting point.
The tour itself traversed through all of the major sites and villages of Lake District National Park including a few hidden gems such as Surprise View. Stef made sure all of our needs were attended to. I would highly recommend.

Brilliant day from start to finish, we were picked up straight from our hotel so didn’t have to worry about trying to find the visitor centre. The tour itself covered everywhere we wanted to see and more and our tour guide Derek was great I have no idea how he manages to remember so much information about every road village town and lake. He asked us all questions about where we came from etc and had us all laughing the whole time. Plenty of stops in the best photo opportunity spots which we would have never been able to find ourselves. Also gave me and my wife recommendations for other activities around the lakes as it was our first time visiting. Very glad we booked this tour and Derek deserves a pay rise or some danger money for reversing round tiny windy almost vertical roads after meeting tractors and tourists that hadn’t a clue how to drive on narrow roads😂 He brought us back to the hotel again which we didn’t expect but was greatly appreciated

My 73-year-old Canadian mother in law booked this tour online using the Get Your Guide website. She provided my UK mobile number as her contact number as she could not use her Canadian mobile while visiting us in the UK.
She received and printed her voucher for the trip and on the voucher the pick-up point was clearly indicated (via a pin drop on Google Maps) to be on the ticket office side of Oxenholme train station (we live locally, are very familiar with the station and know that there are two entrances - this is why we double-checked the location included on the voucher).
On the day of her tour, my husband dropped her off at the station at 08:30 for her 09:15 pick-up. At 09:30, I received a call at my place of work to say that the driver of the van had been waiting for over 20 minutes and could not find her - we quickly realised that he had been waiting on the other side of the train station. I told the tour representative where she was waiting and the driver walked through the train station (instead of driving over to the second entrance in a highly recognisable vehicle) to look for her, however because she was waiting at the top of the driveway into the station underneath the station sign, he didn't see her. He thus left without her, stranding her at the train station.
My husband then had to leave his place of work to retrieve her and take her back to our house, losing an hour out of his morning at work. Because she was extremely distressed by the experience, both my husband and I felt that we had no choice but to take a half day off work to take her out and show her at least a few of the sights listed in the tour description.
When speaking with the Mountain Goat representative on the day, I asked for a full refund as the fault for the missed pick-up lay completely with them. She told me that she couldn't authorise that, so I asked that someone from the company return my call on the following day to discuss this. No one ever called me back, and when I called them the next day, I was told to contact Get Your Guide to request the refund.
I know that the more frequently used pick-up point for this tour company is their very highly-visible, well-signed Windermere base, but all it would have taken to make this a great day out for my Mother-in-Law is if the person responsible for the marketing of this trip had taken a bit of time to make sure that the description of the Oxenholme pick-up point was very clearly described in the email voucher sent out. I understand why the van was waiting where it was, but I am convinced that if the driver had driven it around to the other side instead of walking through the connecting tunnel, none of this would have occurred.
This was a very disappointing experience overall, and I will not be recommending it to any other family members who travel over to visit with us.

We are sorry you felt you had such an poor experience with our company, however, we feel as though laying the blame solely at our feet is unfair.
As you mentioned, your mother-in-law booked our tour from Oxenholme Train Station with the third-party Get Your Guide (GYG). Our pickup location on GYG is listed as Oxenholme Train Station and the website map pin is dropped directly on the train station ticket office.
Our driver arrived at the designated time of 09.15am to pick-up your mother-in-law and parked at the bus stop at the end of the underpass at the station and after a short while we contacted the number provided, which was yours, to try to find where your mother-in-law was. At this point our driver had been there for approximately 10 minutes.
After we had contacted you, you then contacted your mother-in-law and informed us that she was at the coffee stand near to the ticket office, and so our driver walked from one side of the station to the other to find her. He could not.
He then proceeded to ask everyone at the station whether they were booked on to a Mountain Goat tour, and also asked staff at the ticket office, coffee stand and coffee shop on the other platform if the had seen you. Again he could not find your mother-in-law.
By this time our driver had been at the station for 30 minutes actively searching for his passenger. Unfortunately he had to leave by this point as there were other pickups he needed to make in Kendal in order to make it back to the main tour in Windermere for the departure time, he was 15 minutes late to this because of his delay.
It was only after he had left that you rang us back to tell us your mother-in-law was now waiting at the top of the road, over 100 metres away from the entrance to train station, somewhere our drivers would not have looked as it is not at the station itself.
After this conversation we offered to move your mother-in-laws booking onto another, later tour (at our expense), where she would have been picked up from Oxenholme at 11.08am or could have been brought to our Windermere offices by your husband when you went to pick her up. This was another attempt at our staff trying to resolve the issue, however, you did not take us up on this offer or contact us again that day.
With regards to a refund, as you had booked with Get Your Guide, they hold your money and this is why you have been told to contact them. They deal with all customer payments if booked through themselves, and we always recommend booking directly with us so we can handle these situations directly.
As mentioned our Windermere Office is well-signed as it is our building, as explained to you on the phone we cannot put signs up at the station without the permission of the owner, Virgin Trains/Network Rail, this is something we would like to do but sadly can't.
We believe our driver took every step possible to find your mother-in-law, had she been waiting in Oxenholme Station itself we are confident your experience would have been a brilliant one.

Fabulous 10 lakes tour. Lovely fell views. Kirkstone Pass was closed but enjoyed the route taken instead. Keswick was a great stop for lunch.
