- Pamdora530 contributionsIt’s harder than it looks but so pleased we did we gave it a go!Perfect weather conditions for our group of three older adults to try this activity for the first time, calm water, good equipment, small friendly group, and the added bonus of fabulous views of surrounding fells. Steve was very friendly, encouraging, professional and reassuring, seemed to give everyone the support they needed to get the best out of the session. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hope to come again to build up our confidence.Written 4 September 2024
- elainerI1586ZW0 contributionsCanoe taster sessionMy husband and I booked a 2 hour canoe taster session at Keswick and it really was a great introduction to canoeing. We had some basic instruction from Steve, our instructor, and 15 minutes in the bay close to shore whilst getting familiar with controlling the canoe. Then Steve followed us from island to island at our own pace, giving us tips and ensuring we stayed safe from the launches and their wake! We really enjoyed being on the Lake and wouldn't hesitate to recommend using this company if you're thinking of having a go at canoeing. Tip - wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet.Written 2 September 2024
- HalfDome540 contributionsA superb introduction to paddle boardingIt wasn't exactly the best weather for an introduction to paddle boarding but Phil, from Mobile Adventure made it a brilliant morning, taking us to a sheltered bay and guiding us through the techniques to get and stay upright. Everything about the trip was excellent - the communication, the kit, the safety instructions, the enthusiasm. Even on a paddle board, in a squall, there isn't a better place than Derwentwater!Written 26 August 2024

We booked three activities with Mobile Adventure and they were all superb. Communication with John (Woody) was clear and timely from the start and he was really flexible and accommodating. Above all, it was great to spend time with people who clearly love what they do and learning from their expertise whilst having fun. I would strongly recommend booking in advance.
First activity for us was ghyll scrambling - a holiday highlight for parents and children aged 12, 15, 17 - our instructor John (not Woody!) made the whole experience great fun from the start. The scramble down the stunning Stonycroft Ghyll was superb fun, with lots of slides and jumps into the water. Nobody was rushed and there was a real sense of achievement on a couple of the more challenging bits. The setting itself is worth it just to see the views from a completely different angle! John's sense of humour, storytelling and the way he treated everyone in the group (11 in total) as individuals made the morning a highlight for all.
Second activity was a morning of paddleboarding for the girls and kayaking for us on the beautiful Derwentwater. John (Woody) 'read' our family well, pushing the girls to try new challenges and letting us enjoy the views! Equipment was all high quality and we learned new skills along the way.
Finally, the two eldest joined John (Woody) and a small group to do the Via Ferrata Extreme at Honister slate mine. They really enjoyed the physical and mental challenge and also got loads of information about the history of the mine at the same time. Again, John was brilliant with the needs of the group.
I booked with Mobile Adventure based on the reviews I had read - and our experiences exceeded expectations. Thank you!

What an awesome experience. We were three first timers to gyhll scrambling full of excitement and Woody didn't let us down in the slightest.
I would recommend this adventure to anyone. We were three 35-50 yrs, two with glasses and all at different levels of fitness, but none of this made any difference.
Woody was extremely friendly and accommodating and seemed to cater the afternoon to us specifically. We were warm and buzzing the whole time.
Much appreciated Woody, thanks again...

This was awesome! Enjoyed every minute of it! Our instructor Ross made us feel comfortable with every obstacle and gave us tips how to tackle them. There was some sliding, jumping down small waterfalls, diving, so the 2-3h were fully packed. It would have been nicer having an option to choose the group size (and pay accordingly) as it felt like we would have enjoyed more with group up to 6 people. Yet, for the first time this was great :)

Hi glad you enjoyed it! Interesting what you said about group sizes, we are thinking about private groups next year, just got to find a way for our booking system to support it. Thanks for the prompt!

This trip was unforgettable!!!
Woody was our instructor was a very charismatic guy who made us feel very safe and confident whilst on the scramble.
My 7 year daughter was incredibly nervous at the beginning but Woody was so patient with her and took extra time giving her instructions and reassurance and by the end she was whizzing down the ghyll happily.
We would 100% recommend this trip and we will be re-booking next time we’re in the lakes.

This was the highlight of our holiday, we did a 1/2 day ghyll scrambling adventure at Church Beck Sept 17th. A real joy from start to finish including the booking process before and after. A real professional approach. John our instructor was fabulous a real friendly guy with great knowledge and skills to keep us safe and the patience of a Saint. The encouragement of John meant all members of our party had the full experience and overcame some fears. This was a real lake district taster of outdoor living, so exhilarating and beautiful. I wanted to see a waterfall well this is even better you are in one !! If in doubt don't be just give it a go, life is for living after all !!! Highly recommend mobile adventure.

We were a group of 5, four adults and one child age 8yrs. John was our guide and he was enthusiastic and made the activity a lot of fun while always ensuring our safety.
I was worried that Ghyll scrambling would be too much for my young daughter, but she had a whale of a time and it was the highlight of her/our trip to the Lake District.
If you have young children who are confident in water then Ghyll scrambling is a must do!

Awesome experience
I booked with mobile adventures for ghyll scrambling for my family (children: 7 and 14 years old).
There were other families also in various groups. Our guide ”John” was very cooperative, helpful and considerate for the children. It was an awesome experience and I was very lucky to have amazing people in my group who were helping each other out.
Wetsuits provided by the mobile adventures was of very good quality.
Its ideal to take lot of towels to dry oneself up after the activity.
All in all it was a wonderful activity

Nothing I had seen or read prepared me for how awesome this experience was. A baking hot day and cool refreshing water may have helped admittedly, perhaps alot. Apparently this adventure is in some top 100 things to do before you die and deservedly so. My daughter suggested we do it, I thought it was going to be a bit tame, just kind of shimmying down a shallow stony brook. But this little stream, which clearly flows much fuller and faster at other times, has hollowed out huge deep pools, still well over 6ft deep despite recent low rainfall , which you can plunge into and nice smooth rocks to slide down. Can't remember the last time I had so much fun. Plunging head first backwards into a rocky pool; awesome. As I mentioned the baking hot date helped, it was such a relief to get in the water after the trek up the hill, during which we were passed by what appeared to be identical Richard Branson look-a-likes, riding bikes, does he have a brother? Which helped at to the surrealism of the experience. The ghyl is just another world, which you can barely imagine, even though the well used track is close by. A shout out to the amazing and awesome guide/instructor, Jay, who explained and demonstrated everything clearly, pointing out all the potential rocky and trip hazards and was just a great host. If you tried to do it without the knowledge or correct gear, you would definitely come a cropper. Thanks Jay & Keswick Adventures.

Went Ghyll Scrambling on a bright sunny day in April and had a fantastic time - the water was COLD but it wasn't a problem at all as the wet suits and the laughter kept us warm. John was great and took good care of us - we were a group of 9 people with kids as young as 10/12 and they all enjoyed it. And the countryside and the views are great too.

This was a brilliant experience! It was super fun, our guide was very friendly, helpful, encouraging, and very attentive about our safety. He also took quite a few nice photos, which we got for free in the end. I'm definitely doing another one next time I'm in the Lake District!
COVID-19 addition: It's not really possible to keep social distancing during the gorge walking itself, but we did keep a reasonable distance on the walk to the river and back.
