- laurenlL9458UR0 contributionsThe highlight of my trip to YorkThe Dales tour was the highlight of my trip to York. Barry, our guide for the day, is an absolute gem -- he was very conscientious about every traveler and had a wealth of information to share at every stopping point. The landscape was breathtaking, there were plenty of stops for photos and plenty of gentle walking opportunities throughout the day too. The coach was clean and well-maintained and everything about the tour was easy and relaxing. Thank you for a wonderful day!Written 15 November 2024

It was a small van and the driver & guide Ben was the best1! He has a theatre background and his commentary was extremely interesting and entertaining. Very well organized company and great value for money.Written 6 November 2024
- gerianneb20240 contributionsTOP NOTCH TOUR!Mountain Goat - All Creatures Great & Small tour this October, 2024 was absolutely the best day ever! Our guide John was so informative. He reviewed Yorkshire history and tied it into the place names we drove through, explained the topography, the reasons there are hawthorn hedgerows in some areas and stone walls in others. We saw sites where All Creatures was filmed. John navigated the most narrow of roads carefully and stopped for photos at many breathtakingly beautiful spots. I cannot wait to go on another Mt Goat tour! I would never have seen or learned as much just driving myself. My only recommendation is that they add Harrogate as a starting point of tours. The town is always full of visitors who would appreciate the convenience of boarding the bus in Harrogate as well as the top notch service Mountain Goat provides!Written 30 October 2024
- Bekah0 contributionsWonderful day in the Lake District with tour guide GordonOur group of six had a great day with Gordon on a custom 8 hour tour of the area around Windermere, visiting Wray Castle, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top retreat, Tarn Hows, and Hawkshead, and finishing up with an enjoyable visit to Sizergh Castle. Gordon is very knowledgeable about the history and geography of Cumbria and the life of Beatrix Potter, and he graciously answered our many questions while skillfully and patiently negotiating one-lane roads, blind turns, and steep hills in a 16-passenger minibus. We particularly enjoyed his back alleys tour of Hawkshead, where we encountered the village haunts of the young William Wordsworth without encountering any other tourists! We enjoyed a lovely Sunday roast dinner at the Queens Head pub in Hawkshead, where the food was delicious and the service efficient and cheerful. We thoroughly explored Sizergh Castle in the afternoon and got a little carried away in the gift shop. It was a lovely day spent in a lovely setting with a very pleasant and well-informed guide. Thank you!Written 27 October 2024
- aidano2140 contributionsAnother great Mountain Goat experience.Having spent a few days in the Lake District, we decided to have a quick look at the Yorkshire Dales. This is a beautiful area of northern England, but is quite different from the Lake District. Rolling hills, green pastures, black faced sheep and lovely villages are features of this delightful tour. Thank you to our guide and driver, Derek, and to Mountain Goat.Written 26 October 2024
- aidano2140 contributionsHalf day well spent.Great little tour. Our guide and driver, Peter Fox, was excellent. The itinerary fitted a lot into half a day. Had a fantastic day out doing the Winter Ten Lake Tour with Tess as the tour guide. Tess picked us up at half 9 in Windermere and kept the bus entertained with her excellent knowledge and laughter the whole day, until we returned at half 4. She was very customer focussed and friendly; and it is worth noting the bus was clean and comfortable.
Thankfully the weather was dry during our trip; which allowed us to get see some spectacular views and capture amazing pictures to remember our time at the Lakes.
The tour is well worth the money, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the lakes. Also the tour allows everyone to see the sights as no one is having to drive the narrow roads or worry about parking.

I booked this full day trip as I had travelled to Windermere by train so it sounded like the perfect way to get out and see more of the lake district than I would have been able to without transport.
The tour guide/driver Jeff collected me from my accommodation on the morning of the trip, which was really convenient. The mini bus was really clean and comfortable, with social distancing between passengers. The group size was also small enough to ensure everyone’s safety and there was hand sanitiser provided on board.
The tour itself was amazing. I can’t list all of the places that we visited as there are too many to remember, but what I will say is that the scenery at the top of the Kirkstone Pass was absolutely breathtaking and was possibly my favourite part of the day. We had plenty of stops to take photos and we also stopped in Keswick for an hour or so for lunch.
Jeff was really friendly and knowledgable, telling us a lot about the history of the area throughout the day.
I’d definitely recommend this trip if you’re staying in the lakes for more than a couple of days because it’s a great way to see some amazing countryside and also a good way of finding new places that you might like to visit again in the future.

My partner visited Lake District in September last year, and adored the place so much she insisted that we return for her birthday.
I am not really a nature fan, and adore it from afar...however I have truly been conformed.
This tour, was absolutely amazingggggg! Unfortunately, due to the weather we were not able to visit all sites- but this did not affect our experience at all, as what we were able to see (the different lakes and towns) was fulfilling in it’s entirety, with memories that will stay with us for life.
Whilst the views are breathtaking- our experience would not been as fulfilling, if it was not for our tour guide and driver for the day, Carl.
Carl is extremely personable, intelligent, likeable, funny and just a joy to be around.
His knowledge is incredible with clear explanations throughout the entire tour and is spoken to an excellent degree.
Carl made sure that the weather was not an obstacle and ensured that we fully connected to what we can only call ‘paradise’ and has helped to confirm that we will again return in the near future.
We felt incredibly safe with Carl, and thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. Mountain Goat, please ensure you retain and award Carl, as this was customer services to its highest degree.
Moreover, we cannot stress the beautiful views you are able to capture on this tour, and highly recommend this tour not only to newcomers, but also those who have visited before. Can you ever get bored embracing ‘paradise’?
Excellent value for money, a tour with finesse, and if your as lucky as us to get Carl- you’ll also find yourself on Facebook or trip advisor leaving a positive review.
Best wishes,
Tinashe & Jessika

We booked a 19 seater minibus with Mountain Goat to transport our wedding party of 17 along with our photographer from our wedding venue at Grasmere to Windermere. This was for a chartered boat trip. We also booked for them to collect us 90 minutes later for our return to the Grasmere.
When you make a booking like this you are nervous if everyone will turn up on time and things will run smoothly.
NO WORRIES HERE !!! They were absolutely on time for the pick up. The minibus was clean and looked smart. The lady driver was polite and checked numbers onto the bus. On the return trip the photographer took us off for a few minutes to get a few shots nearby and the driver was patient and sweet.
We have recommended Mountain Goat for the hotel to recommend for future similar trips and we would highly recommend them for reliability, punctuality and tidy clean vehicles.
Mountain Goat, We would like to Thank you for playing your part in making our day run smoothly and being a day to remember for all the right reasons.

Staying in lovely Bowness, our hosts were quick to recommend Mountain Goat Tours and we were certainly not disappointed. Our minibus driver for the day, Dave, arrived promptly to collect us from our hotel and join the other 4 passengers in our modern and smart wheels for our trip - thereby affording us all window seats and Covid safe. Dave’s cheery chatter and expert knowledge of both the area and its history gave us a wonderful overview of the Lake District. We were signposted to particular areas of interest and the best places for views and photographs. This is a real value-for-money, tour enabling everyone simply to enjoy the wonderful scenery and not worry about the safe navigation of the many challenging local roads. With plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy so much of what this lovely area of Cumbria has to offer.

I loved this tour. It serves as a great sneak peak and introduction to Lakes of the District and to the history and geography of the land, great for a first timer to explore the region and get to know the place.
Our Guide Geoff was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained with the history, anecdotes, significant events of the area and with his sense of humor!! It was a rainy day so we didn't necessarily have a great view at Ullswater , however happy that we managed to cover all the other relevant sites in time and in relatively good weather( stops also included Ashness Bridge, Grasmere, Keswick, Ambleside).
My favorite spot was Castlerigg Stone circle and also found the lunch hour at Keswick enjoyable with the hustle and bustle of the saturday market.
Relevant precautions of hand sanitising, hygiene, face coverings were followed through and found the trip safe.
If you have one day and want to know the place to plan your trip next time, this is a very helpful tour. I got inspired to plan an outdoor activity trip in a better weather when I saw some people hiking !

Just got back from a 10 lake tour in the Lake District, our driver was Duncan. To say we had an incredible day would be an understatement, we absolutely loved every minute of it. Having spent many a holiday in the Lake District I thought I knew a fair amount about the Lake District, but It's clear I did not! Duncan was able to share an absolute wealth of knowledge about the area in an interesting way while carefully navigating the twisty roads ensuring everyone was and felt safe, an absolute credit to Mountain Goat tours. The bus was also super comfortable with air conditioning and well maintained. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a great full day out looking to understand more about the Lake District, it's history, geology and culture. Even our very difficult to please teenagers were blown away. Book now!

I have never been to the Lake District before and the full day 10 lake tour was a great introduction to this beautiful part of the world.
I was able to see so much of the area that I would have never seen if I had taken my car. There was a nice mix of commentary on board, seeing lovely picturesque places and free time for lunch and stops / comfort breaks including Grasmere, Ashness bridge, Castlerig stones and a lunch stop in busy Keswick.
Duncan was an excellent driver and guide who kept us entertained and gave a very interesting and informative commentary during the tour
Obviously restrictions are in place due to Covid 19 and seats had been removed from the mini bus to ensure social distancing, face masks were compulsory and hand sanitiser available entering/leaving bus
I felt safe and that Mountain goat were looking after our welfare.
It must be very tough time for people in tourism industry, but I thoroughly recommend this tour company and if I'm ever back in the area will use again. It gets an A + from me.

Our guide (Jane) was a delight and made our tour absolutely wonderful and memorable. She knew the entire area like the back of her hand and her anecdotes were quite amusing. We did the 10 lake tour and would recommend anyone (novice/ veteran tourist) to take the tour for what Lake District had to offer. Without the tour we would have struggled to cover even 1-2 lakes on our own. Many thanks for fantastic tour.

We will be staying in Keswick. Is there any change for pickup there or can you recommend the best way for us to get to a pickup village by local bus?

Yes. There’s a hop on hop off bus, I believe it’s bus#555 that you can take to ambleside. The victim is 2 pounds sterling. Mountain Goat picks up right up the street about 50 yards father bus stop.

I am planning to take this tour in 2nd week of December, here it is mentioned that if we do not get minimum number of travellers then we cancel the trip and provide a refund. I am now confused that since December is not a time when many tourists travel to lake district. I am totally dependent on the trip so I would like a confirmation soon of whether the trip will be taking place or not otherwise I need to plan to visit a different place. Please let me know soon

Hi, if I remember correctly, the tour finished around 5.30-545pm at Grasmere, and trhen the minibus returned to Ambleside,(another 15min) and Boness(another 15min). If I were you, I'd ring the Mountain Goat Office, as they are used to those 'connection' enquiries, and they would give you the more accurate timings. The later connection to Windermere would be more realistic I think. The full day tour is brilliant, and good value for money. Best wishes.

I am in Keswick for a few days. Which would be the best starting point for me to join the group? Which would be the best way to reach that starting point using public transport? By what time should I aim to reach this starting point? Would we stop at the resting place of Wordsworth? (dates 31/07 or 01/08).

I was staying in Kendal and was picked up and dropped off at the hotel door. It cost an extra £10 but worth every penny - brilliant day out. Enjoy

Is there a restriction to bring on my 4 years old son in the Mountain Goat Full Day Tour: Ten Lakes Tour?
Written 6 July 2022
Sorry I can’t answer that, there were only adults on our trip. I would advise that you either look on their website or if in doubt give them a call.

Hi, can I accompany my 4 years old son? what will be the cost?

We recently undertook the Ten Lakes tour with slightly older boys, 9 and 11 years old. They enjoyed the tour. There are frequent stops in places where one can explore around a bit so it might be interesting enough for a younger child. A lot depends though on the child's personality and interests since there is a fair amount of driving around so the child would have to remain seated (with a seat belt on) for extended periods of time.

Hi, I note the description says there is a little walking involved. May I know if the walk is strenuous at all? Also, how long is the walk? Thanks

Not strenuous at all, and optional to get out and walk around
