About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Tezzybear0 contributionsWinter WonderlandWhile the Lakes are wonderful to visit in summer, the crisp winter air and falling snow gave the region additional beauty and majesty. Tim was a fantastic guide, adapting the tour based on the weather, and providing fascinating insights on any and all topics. This is a must do activity when in the region. Can't wait to go back and explore the rest soon.Written 13 January 2025

- CarmenH5120 contributionsExcellent tour of the Lakes!Highly recommend this tour! I mistakenly booked us on this thinking it was a boat tour...ha...but the most pleasant surprise of our trip! Tim was our driver and guide (I was glad to not have to drive for a change) and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. He was well versed in the history and sights. The best part was seeing a small stone circle up close and the views were spectacular at almost every turn. Must do!Written 11 November 2024
- ljmelin0 contributionsA day with WordsworthGillian and Tim were fantastic! They were both incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. Gillian made sure that we saw everything possible. We ended the tour at Rydal Mount- my absolute favorite!! We will cherish the time spent exploring Wordsworth’s world.❤️Written 2 November 2024
- annyach0 contributionsThe art of Brontës doth come to life on this tour‘Twas a day steeped in the legacy of the most illustrious literary family of England. We didst traverse the oppressive realms of industrial society, fraught with class divisions—the squalor, the inequity, and the harsh realities for women artistes. Yet, this hardship hath found a counterbalance in the elemental expanse of the moors, where the muse of art may unfurl her wings in unbounded liberty. The fervent affection the Brontë sisters hath shared doth their narratives illuminate, and their indomitable spirit shall a testament be to the triumph of art over the adversities that doth beset their existence. Our guides, the amiable Sandra and the erudite Gillian, hath given us a truly memorable experience, their captivating tales leaving an indelible mark upon our imaginations. We shall eagerly anticipate a return to display our dancing prowess in a Kate Bush dance upon the moors; we doth express our sincere gratitude for this day!Written 28 October 2024

- RetireAndRejoice0 contributionsBest Way to See the Lake District! This was the perfect way to see the Lakes District! We loved being picked up and returned to our hotel on Lake Windermere. Gillian and Sandra were our talented, engaging guide and driver (respectively). Gillian was knowledgeable, entertaining and shared amazing information and stories about the area and local legends. Sandra was an incredible driver, especially on narrow roads on a rainy day. They gave us plenty of time for taking pictures and rest stops. We would do this tour again in a heartbeat. We highly recommend it!Written 19 October 2024

- JimB0bH0 contributionsPerfect Day!What a tremendous day! We love ACGAS and dreamed of seeing the places it’s been filmed. We saw Pumphrey Manor; the crossroads where James first arrived and meets Helen; the church where Helen calls it off with Hugh; the bridge where James and Hugh struggle to decide who will back up and let the other through; the main town used for Darrowby (including the front Skeldale house, the Drovers Arms, the green grocers); the village green where James meets the bus when his parents arrive for the wedding;the Falcon Inn, where his parents stay; the back of Skeldale house; the exterior and interior of the churches used for James and Helen’s wedding; and the Alderson’s farm; and had a delightful lunch at the pub used for one of the interiors of the Drovers Arms. It was truly a delightful way to see the Yorkshire Dales come alive through and outside of the lens of the show! Our guide, Tim, was excellent! He has really taken the time to study up on the show and the real-life James Herriot (Alf White), enjoys the show as much as his guests, and was just a delight to spend the day with asking about the Dales then and now. The pace was leisurely and he let us take as many pictures was we wanted and explore as long as we wanted (obviously keeping us to the schedule). At each stop, he also shows us scene where the location was used, indicating directions and things to notice about the scene and the reality. He also spent time tell on us about the history or other unique characteristics of the places we visited. It was just the best day! We loved it and would recommend the tour to anyone who is a fan of the show or just wants to see the Dales in a unique way.Written 13 October 2024

Our driver and guide was so knowledgeable. He timed the whole experience perfectly with all the right stories at the right time. He spoke just enough at each stop to set the stage for what we were seeing and to be excited about it. He was responsive to questions and had a great sense of humor. I liked all the stops we took. They helped paint a perfect picture of Beatrix Potter’s life and of the Lake District.

Our tour of Hilltop was great! The guide was an expert on Beatrix Potter’s life, both as an author and in how she shaped the lake districts. Ours was a small group of us two from Norway and a trio of sweet american ladies who all had a great time listening to the stories, history and seeing the places she drew the art for her stories from. I dare say all five of us absolutely loved the experience!

We had a wonderful afternoon with our guide Tim, the sunny afternoon was the background to a special tour of visiting the place Beatrix Potter loved, we loved it too.
Tim skilfully informed us of the history of Lake District, Windermere and HillTop, it’s geological features and history along with the family story, Beatrix’s life, her writing , passion for farming and philanthropy.
The tour is well paced , suitable for all fitness levels and takes you to all the important places in the story as well as some extra little local bonuses.
The visit to Hill Top is magical.
So pleased I realised a bucket list wish and did this with English Lakes Tours.

A truly magical tour which brings Beatrix Pottet to life. Tim is an excellent guide. He is incredibly knowledgeable. His showing us Potter's watercolors in her books was a stunning addition. He showed us the inspiration of each painting with the real life scene. The half day went by way too fast. I could have spent a whole day on this tour.

We had a wonderful morning with Tim, our host from English Lakes Tours. He is quite knowledgeable about, well, pretty much everything in the Lake District! We did this tour and the 8 lakes tour with Tim and he provided great commentary, history and other tidbits about all of the places we visited. It was raining most of the weekend, and Tim made it pleasant and informative despite the poor weather. Tim also did an excellent job ensuring the vehicle was sanitized by adequately adhering to COVID requirements. We highly recommend this tour.

Tim was a warm and well-informed tour guide. We enjoyed our day and would recommend this to anyone looking for a more personalised private tour covering a lot of ground in a short period. We particularly enjoyed the time spent at Tarn Howes viewpoint. Thank you Tim!

My wife and I had an amazing tour with Tim. The tour was extremely informative. I know that we would not have been able to accomplish the itinerary without an expert guide. The tour had a perfect pace to allow for sightseeing as a group as well as some time for individual exploration at the Potter House. Thank you Tim for the experience!

The whole afternoon turned out to be absolutely fascinating with a driver, Sandra and a guide, Jill who were both exceptional. From beginning to end it felt like we had stepped into the Lake District as Beatrix Potter knew it. We saw so much more than just Hill Top where she lived and everything was planned to tell her story. Gorgeous scenery, really interesting info well told, skillful driving and fabulous Beatrix Potter locations, what more could there be? Well, the mini-bus was really clean and comfortable with great air con, wi-fi and phone chargers. Definitely a good tour to take and well worth the money, we would never have known or seen a fraction of what we saw if we had done it ourselves.

Enjoyed this tour so much when I visited on my own in 2019 that I came back a second time and brought my whole family. It was just as magical as the first time. Tim was definitely an expert guide on Beatrix. Provided an extensive and detailed narration about her life at each stop and while we drove from place to place. Loved that he had all the little books tucked in his jacket to pull out and show the illustrations of the locations we visited!
