About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- katewR7671HN0 contributionsGreat tour and guidesGreat tour and guides. Driver and guide were very knowledgeable and accommodating. If I had to change anything I would suggest more time at the Hill Top house. Many thanksWritten 1 October 2024
- JanetDurban0 contributionsAmazing - we'll be backWe've just done the 8 lakes tour for a second time because we enjoyed the tour so much the first time. Tour operators are so knowledgeable about the area and local history, thank you Tim for a fantastic afternoon - see you next time we're in the LakesWritten 29 September 2024
- john_steward0 contributionsI felt that in just four hours we covered So much of the beautiful Parts of the district and had a taste of the history. This was a very special tour Tim our guide was a delight He was so knowledgeable about the terrain and all the history of the places we visited. Well done.Written 25 September 2024
- shellyf8760 contributionsLet someone else drive you around The LakesEnjoyed our 21st wedding anniversary today with Sandra and Gillian. Both very knowledgeable about the area! We had fun with our fellow solo guest. Visited all the right places that we wanted to see today.Written 25 September 2024
- RogInNottm0 contributionsBeatrix Life In a Half DayWhat a wonderful morning trip delving into the life of Beatrix Potter! There was just a mass of detail that we knew nothing about. Tim, out driver and host, became a friend indeed during this trip that we shared with two Americans and two Aussies. We drove at a leisurely pace (or rather Tim drove) through the wonderful Lake District where Beatrix Potter set her stories. We had time to wander round Hill Top, the house that Peter Rabbit bought (or rather his sales funds bought). This was fascinating. Stories about Wray Castle, Tarn Hows and Hawshead Village added to our delight. So many links from the views we had to the illustrations in the “little books”. Tim added details about The Campbell Family when we saw Coniston Water in addition to the sight of so many farms that Beatrix bought. He added to that a summary of Wordsworth’s life in The Lakes. We drove over roads so narrow that a bus couldn’t have used them, feeling safe in Tim’s hands at the wheel. Thanks Tim for a great morning out in the sunshine that you specially arranged for our trip.Written 21 September 2024
- carolyngS7250PB0 contributionsImmerse yourself in Beatrix Potter’s worldLovely tour especially for Beatrix Potter admirers. Our guide was very informative and showed us around her world. He had brought the books so we can see the real live building Ms Potter used in her book and compare the two side by side. He was also knowledgeable about her philanthropic works and all she did for the community. Pick up and drop off was just as advised on the ticket and there was no trouble figuring out who you’re meeting. Enjoyed all the various places we were taken and not just Hilltop Farm. Got to see where Beatrix lived with her husband, William Heeler. The guide kept a good running commentary but wasn’t talking all the time so you had time to enjoy the views. Highly recommend going with this company if you’re in the Lake District and want a half day tour of Beatrix Potter’s world!Written 19 September 2024
- hvytom0 contributionsA private tour that makes you feel “in the know.”Our driver and guide was so knowledgeable. He timed the whole experience perfectly with all the right stories at the right time. He spoke just enough at each stop to set the stage for what we were seeing and to be excited about it. He was responsive to questions and had a great sense of humor. I liked all the stops we took. They helped paint a perfect picture of Beatrix Potter’s life and of the Lake District.Written 19 September 2024
- karennP2268AL0 contributionsBest Tour EverTim was the best tour guide I’ve ever had, and I’ve been on a lot of tours. He was interesting and incredibly knowledgeable as well as funny and friendly. The tour took us to more sites than we expected and taught us so much about Beatrix as well as the history of the area. He answered all our questions in detail with great enthusiasm. - 924nadaj0 contributionsAll creatures but mainly sheep! Our daytrip into the Yorkshire Dales was beyond all expectations. Our driver/guide John S was not only knowledgeable, but also a save driver. We heard and saw a lot about the tv series. Not only that, also about other films. He couldn’t have done me a greater pleasure by taking us to Bolton- and Middleham castle where we could soak up some of the UK’s interesting history. I highly recommend this tour.Written 12 September 2024

- clabuff0 contributionsLearned so much about this amazing woman!Tim's accounts of Beatrix Potter were so interesting. I learned so much about this amazing woman in such a wonderful way. Tim used Beatrix's stories and drawings to illustrate his accounts and taught us that she was sO much more than her stories. Everybody should learn about her - she is an example to the world. Thank you Tim!Written 4 September 2024

We did this ultimate private tour with tour guide Tim. This tour is really worth the money and the convenience of being able to see around Lake district while enjoying our company with Tim. The tour itself was really nice and our tour guide was really knowledgable. He kept us awake throughout our trip and he even took good photos of us. He was friendly and all smiles. The covid restriction was kept in place and there were hand sanitisers inside the van. I have already recommended this to my friends. Well done!

What a wonderful day we had. Our guide, Tim, was very accommodating and knows his stuff! Not only did he have fantastic historical knowledge but was engaging with the stories and information of this amazing, beautiful part of England. Our day started at 9.45am picking us up from our front door and finished at 17.45pm dropping us off at our front door - that's what I call door to door service. There were so many highlights of the day, but to mention a few: boat trip around Derwent Water, stopping at Honister Pass (the highest pass in The Lakes), Surprise View and Ashness Bridge, Castlerigg Stone Circle, pausing briefly at Wordsworth's House. Beautiful scenery reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands. Loads of sheep - Herdwick and Swaledale (breeds found in the area and particularly suitable for this environment). We can't thank Tim enough for making this a very enjoyable and memorable experience.

Thank you for a lovely review. We are so pleased that you had a great day out with us. All of our guides try hard to show visitors as much as they can in the time allowed but without rushing and with plenty of photo opportunities.

We were staying just outside the Lake District and decided that rather than drive ourselves, we would book some tours and get picked up from our hotel. We took 3 tours with this company and enjoyed them all. Everything was nice and relaxed and although there was so much to see on this tour, we didn't feel rushed and Steve was so accommodating when we wanted to stay a bit longer or stop for a quick photo. Very pretty scenery in an area we will be visiting again. Thanks for a lovely day out.

We took this tour round the Lakes to see the scenery and what the place was like. It was so beautiful, especially with all of the Autumn colours. We were really lucky with the weather as it was windy but sunny and everything seemed highlighted with colour and movement.
Tim was fantastic and it felt like we were being shown around by a friend. He met us at our hotel and from then on it was like we had known each other for ages. We took some surprisingly good photos (thanks Tim for the help) and saw some awesome places. From beginning to end this was the best of days and we are planning a return trip to the area to do some more tours with English Lakes Tours. Really nice people!

We took the full day tour of the Lake District which was fantastic. tin was a great tour guide. the tours take place in a nice modern minivan with speakers in front of each passenger so one can clearly hear the guide. Our guide, Tim,did an excellent job. His commentary was informative and interesting. We stopped at many of the lakes, took a boat ride, visited Wordsworth's grave, stopped at the famous gingerbread store and enjoyed the fantastic scenery. Highly recommended.

Second time doing a tour with English Lakes Tours & I can’t recommend them enough! Tried them out for the first time in December for a winter tour and had such a good time admiring the scenery and beauty of Lake District. Took my family for a summer tour this time and everyone was in awe of the mountains, lakes, and sheep. Our guides Jilian & Sandra (as well as a guy for the winter tour, sorry I’ve forgotten his name!) are so knowledgable and could answer all of our questions and more. + they have amazing driving skills navigating the narrow & hilly roads.

The tour was excellent, taking us through the breathtaking lakes scenery and including a fabulous trip on Ullswater lake. The tour guide was genuinely interesting and informative and the small group size (6) made the whole experience far more personable. Definitely recommended.

Tim was not just knowledgeable seeming to answer all my endless questions, but a joy to spend a day with in the beautiful Lake District. We visited so many interesting places, I can't name them all, but we especially loved Castle-Rigg stone circle, Grasmere, Ullswater, Surprise View, Buttermere, Honister Mine and many more.
His knowledge knew no bounds, from shepherding to geological formations, stone walls and so much more.
Highly recommend you take a tour with English Lakes Tours!

Not to be missed. Its a brilliant way to get an overall view of all the best places to go back to later. We got to see places we would never have found on our own. My favourite was Buttermere and Crummock water. Wished we could have stayed longer but then we wouldnt have seen everything else.
I highly reccommend them. The van was partitioned so our driver Tim, was in his own little bubble with his own air con. He was extremely knowledgeable and happily engaged in conversation when we asked him questions.
The views of the valleys and lakes were spectacular.

We had a wonderful time and with Tim as our guide we were in very good hands - he is so knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed hearing about the history of the beautiful scenery that we visited and definitely went to parts we wouldn't have seen without the tour. I particularly enjoyed the view from the first stop and from "Surprise view".

I would like to book a tour for myself alone for mid-October but the price is coming up as $1100 instead of $578 at checkout. Why is this?
