    Ferry Across the Mersey
The boat was basic, which was fine. I was there to hear the commentary. Unfortunately the commentary was sadly lacking. We found alternative areas on the boat that were better for the sound (as some areas were noisy due to both engine noise and people talking loudly) and listened in with interest to hear about the landmarks. However, we had no idea which side of the estuary we were supposed to be looking at as no idea was given and I think some things may have been talked about way before/after we reached them. I have just read another review that says dependent on weather and tides, navigation can be slightly different, which leads me to ask why you don't have a live person giving the commentary and not recorded tracks. That way, the commentator could tell you real time to look left or right and you know what you are looking at. Although it was good to do the trip, I really feel I learnt very little about what we saw :(

    Okay.
The tour was informative but the pre recorded commentary didn’t tell you which side of the Mersey they were talking about. We realised when we couldn’t see what they were talking about. We sat on the left side of the boat facing out, but the commentary was always commenting on buildings on the other side! Perhaps commentary of alternate sides would be a better idea or everyone will want to sit on the right side of the boat, which would not be an equal disbursement.

    A Razzle Dazzle Ride
We'd booked this trip a few weeks in advance and in readiness for our few days break in Liverpool. On the day it was overcast with drizzle and we were in two minds to cancel and just to take a hit on the ticket price. However we didn't I'm glad we went on board. Very informative and enjoyable trip up and down the Mersey. Not spoiled by the weather at all which behaved itself and when the drizzle did come shelter was there. 50 minutes well spent.

Not even the cold February weather ruined the boat trip. Great views and the information given was very informative. Great value.

    Iconic ferry
Visited on Friday 08th September 2023 having arrived pre-dawn on a cruise and disembarked at Liverpool dockside. After an initial walk around the area in front of the Liver Building we walked past the ferry ticket office which was closed and down to the ferry floating harbour. Once on the ferry, there was no ticketing operation in place so we had a free return trip to Birkenhead and back. Lovely view of the City.

Experience a unique ferry, but dont expect much from the cruise itself
I did this on the last sailing on a Friday evening at 4pm. The tour itself is a on a wonderful old ferry that has a long established history and its great to see it still in use today. On the ship itself there is a small section explaining, via text boards, information about it's history. The ferry does have toilets although I didn't use these. There is a small café onboard, but this was closed at the time of my visit. The lower deck offers more coverage from the elements than the top although the mid-section does offer some relief. There is plenty of seating onboard too. The cruise itself unfortunately doesn't offer much. We left on time and returned to the starting point 10 minutes early - that's with a 10 minute ferry stop on the Birkenhead side. The cruise doesn't offer much by way of views that you cant already see from the shoreline however. I get that its not the tour operators fault for this - Liverpool and Birkenhead are generally both on flat land with very little of interest on the Birkenhead side to marvel at from the cruise. We continued round in a circular fashion, an overhead tannoy system pointing out short landmarks of interest along the way, such as cruise dock, old fort, BAE systems dockyard, oil refinery and Liverpool Museum to name a few. Disembarking was easy. For total of £12 this was at the maximum that I was willing to pay and I cannot say it would be worth it paying more than this, although it is a different experience from staying on land so I can understand it's appeal to others. It is worth checking the Mersey ferries website as I know they do do longer cruises which might offer better views for a greater distance and time.

    Wonderful, informative trip!
My mum and I loved the explorer cruise aboard The Snowdrop. It was a lovely bright, crisp, blue day to enjoy the river. The staff off and on board are are friendly and kind. We also want to say ‘Thank You’ to Tegan on the ticket desk at Seacombe. She was really patient and helpful and smiley!

Good experience but navigation was terrible
Booking was easy online and price is good and reasonable. But the navigation was not good at all and they just say the meeting point in their booking and website and we wandered around so much, went through to the tunnel to the opposite side. There is no information about parking at all. So that was the only challenging point. It would be helpful to add information about the parking or near by parking in the ticket and on website.

The ferry is the obvs attraction on this one, but the bus tour, at the same price, is far superior.
The ferry owes all of its allure to that song, and is a pretty rubbish trip in all honesty, so my review is mainly on the bus trip.
Exceptional staff on board all the buses (Chris stood out as having the best talking style and knowledge).
His little tips helped me find the library (who knew a library could be spectacular), I went into the cathedral and up to the viewing point (to say spectacular sells it short).
So my advice is to get there early, because the queues looked awful during the day (ferry), get on the bus, go around once, listen, pick where you’re gonna get off and enjoy the city tour.

Thank you for your feedback. Its good to hear that you really enjoyed the bus tour and got tips on places to visit. We advise with the Ferry to travel either on the first or last sailings during our peak time in the summer holidays as these are our quieter services.

The bus tour is excellent, the live guides are very entertaining and informative. The bus route is quite short as the city is quite compact so some of the stops are only a short walk apart while the bus goes around a longer route between them.
The river cruise is nice, the audio guide is pre recorded and sounded like it might be out of time with the location of the boat. The views back in over the city are very good.

Get to learn about the buildings and associated history from the water and put your feet up for a while. Shame its not a live commentary as I think sometimes it's a bit out of sync with the journey. Easy to get on.although we were there for the first sailing. We got off at Woodside then back on at the next return crossing as there isn't much there if you are just going for a general look round. There are various street food kiosks near the terminal but they weren't open at that time of day. We did the trip as part of the combined bus sightseeing tour so that saved a little bit and we got loads out of the bus tour using the ticket over two days. For me if you can only do one of the two do the bus tour with its live guide

I bought the combined river & bus ticket for £22 from the Ferry terminal at Pier Point. Actual local guides on the yellow buses as opposed to recorded, which I much preferred. All 3 I experienced were excellent and fun. Top deck is partly covered but got really lucky with the weather and enjoyed sitting in the sun while learning about this wonderful city. Complete tour lasts 50-60 mins. Mid week traffic not a problem. Ferry has a v good recorded commentary but you have to be close to the speakers on top deck to hear it properly. Stunning views of Liverpool from the boat and plenty of seats. Lasts 50 mins. Bus stops at all major attractions and is valid for 2 days. All staff were lovely and friendly as were people generally. Really enjoyed my 3 days of exploring Liverpool and still loads more I didn’t get time to see. Thank you all🤗

Totally recommend both. So interesting, good price and a great way to get around the city. A few of the bus tour guides knew so much about the city and history, plus made it fun and interesting. Thank you.

Great time on the hop on bus get on and off where you like and see some great sites. We lost our ticket for the ferry and when asking about it, we were told they can’t reprint as someone else could use it if they find it, so in the end paid for both only got to use hop on bus. Do not lose tickets, very sad we missed out

Great and informative trip. If you like boats, the ferry ride is very relaxing. The bus tour was informative and takes you all over the city with the ability to hop on and off at different locations. My bus ticket was good for the following day as well. A great way to see and get around the city for people with mobility issues. I cannot remember my driver and guides names but they were wonderful and informative. I will say, you can only tip them in cash, so bring cash

This was a fantastic combination ticket, offering the very best live guided bus tour, together with a fabulous guided tour of the Mersey.

We bought out tickets online, and collected them from the ferry terminal. This took a little time, so leave enough time spare. The vouchers also came direct to my phone, and were downloaded (onto 10 pages for 5 vouchers).

Liverpool river cruise was fantastic very informative and interesting.
Very relaxing sitting on deck watching Liverpool and the Wirral pass by with all the information given.
The city sightseeing tour was fun, informative and interesting the tour guide Chris was really funny while the driver was extremely good especially in the narrow roads.
I would extremely recommend these two tours.

Great way to see the sights along the Mersey river. Relaxing and informative with a well-stocked bar. Weather was incredibly warm which allowed us to sit out on the open decks but I’m sure it would have been okay inside if the weather was a little less than perfect. We combined this with an open top bud tour so proved pretty good value to see the main spots around Liverpool. Stopped off at the Baltic Market which I would highly recommend for a bite to eat.
