Highlights
  • Explore the palace’s State Rooms on an audio tour
  • Guide knows the best spots to watch the Changing of the Guard
  • Tour begins with a stroll through one of London's eight Royal Parks
What to expect
  • Meet your guide at a central London location before strolling through St. James’s Park—one of the capital’s eight Royal Parks—to get to Buckingham Palace. You’ll experience the palace at its liveliest with the Changing of the Guard, a traditional ceremony that sees guards wearing red jackets and bearskin hats on the march, accompanied by a military band. Or, on days when the ceremony isn’t held, learn about Buckingham Palace’s history and intrigue on a walking tour. Next, guaranteed admission means you’ll have the rare chance to enter Buckingham Palace, which is only open to the public two months each year (and which always sells out). Plug in your audio guide and see the palace’s sumptuous State Rooms—used today for royal events—up close. Your tour concludes at the palace gates.

Watching the changing of the guard was amazing. It is an amazing tradition to watch. I have always wanted to see Buckingham palace since I was a little girl and it was better than I could have imagined!

Buckingham Palace, London, UK :- This is the London residence and administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom. Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is often at the centre of state occasions and royal hospitality. It has been a focal point for the British people at times of national rejoicing and mourning. It is located between Hyde Park, Green Park, and St. James Park. It is open for the public insummer. You can enjoy here for one hour. Garden is very beautiful. Very nice site or place indeed.

knowledge and helpful tour guide, getting inside to see the palace without waiting in long lines was awesome, took time to enjoy pastries and refreshments after the guided tour of the palace. The history and artworks were amazing. We were lucky to see events from several vantage points which we would not have known about. Well worth every pound.

We were very happy with the Warner Brother Harry Potter studios Tour with City Wonders and hoped we would get a similar experience at the Buckingham Palace.

Unfortunately the Buckingham Palace offered only audio guides (headset with a small machine that hangs round your neck) as the management doesn’t want a bunch of tour guides talking making the noise level too loud. Even so, the City Wonders guide we had gave us a lot of trivia and history about the Changing of Guards that was thoroughly worth it. We also got to enter Buckingham Palace via the group queue which was far shorter than the queue for independent ticket holders.

Part 1 was changing of the guards before we got into Buckingham Palace. The meeting point was a little hard to walk to. We were at Trafalgar Square and walked up the staircase next to a building to reach the end of a street which was elevated. But once on that street it was pretty easy to walk to the Duke of York statue. This was a hugely popular tour as there were 6 different groups of 20 each with 6 different tour guides leading us. Having met up with our group, we started walking down to Pall Mall towards the palace. The tour guide gave us extremely thorough insight into each of the buildings we walked past and was extremely good at picking the spots we should stop at in order to have a good view of the changing of the various guards. She knew exactly what was going on and told us, when each regiment walked past, which regiment they were and whether they were the ones coming off duty or the ones going on duty. She must have done it so many times and yet she narrated all the details with great enthusiasm and thoroughness, which was admirable.

While I enjoyed the expertly guided changing of the guards, and to some extent my daughter did, I must admit that my 6-year old couldn’t quite keep up with all the brisk-walking and I kinda killed my back carrying her on like half of the viewing. Had I known I would have chosen to visit the palace.

Once the guide led us to the queue for group tours and bid farewell, we were on our own for a rare glimpse into the Buckingham Palace. There was a strict no photography policy which was a shame for the photo-crazy world, but actually, not having the distraction or feeling compelled to take pictures allowed us to focus on the very well curated audio guide and the magnificence and grandeur around us. It was really thoughtful that the audio guides offered a children’s version and grown-up version which synced up and worked really nicely for the two of us.

Visitors were all expected to follow the order of visits laid out by the signs or the audio guide. However, how long you stayed in each room is really up to you. The children’s version was engaging and easy to follow that my 6-year old was leading the way on the entire tour. We got to see so many rooms that are used for receiving guests by the royal family it was a real eye opener. We spent 2 hours in the palace but could easily have spent 3 had we not been in a rush to catch our flight later. I wasn’t sure if there were bathrooms that we could use along the way, but we were glad to have reached the end and allowed to jump the queue to return the audio headsets as my daughter read desperate for the bathrooms. They were placed in the “back garden” just outside the entrance, portable ones but there were many in the ladies’ and we didn’t need to queue. The bathrooms were quite clean too considering the number of visitors there.

The palace shop sold Buckingham Palace endorsed / branded items which, considering you would only visit once or twice in your lifetime, was a must. My daughter picked up a royal corgi thanks to the movie that opened earlier in 2019. We enjoyed a lovely ice cream on the way out before we bid our farewell to the palace and London.

A lovely tour and visit well worth it.

It was an amazing trip. We were glad we got to see this historical location and the change of guards. My wife and I enjoyed every bit of it. Glad it was NOT raining that day, otherwise it would have been miserable.

Had a lovely tour! Marney was great and had a lot of the behind the scenes access and knew exactly when to move the group so that we’d get the best view and pictures. She had a great attitude and was an awesome tour guide. Buckingham Palace was gorgeous and there was a lot of different things to see in each room.

Before the changing of the Guard band marches into the grounds and perform. During the summer the changing of the guard ceremony does not happen every day. Can check the calendar on line to find out when it does. During August and September, the public may visit the state rooms. Tickets may be purchase on line. It is a must see.

Our guide, Ben, was obviously experienced...he got us to the front of everything and was so informative...great personality! Couldn't have been more pleased with all we were able to see and do with regards to the Changing of the Guard. He took us places where we could get "up close and personal" with everything. Also so happy that we were able to see Buckingham Palace...the audio/video guide provided made it especially easy to see and appreciate everything available, and being able to do it at our own pace, made it a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. Thanks City Wonders!

Dave, our guide was absolutely brilliant. He was very welcoming and introduced our group of 23 to each other. His 2 hour guided tour along Pall Mall was extremely informative and told in a captivating manner. He made us laugh so much and I was sorry to say goodbye to him. Dave is a gem of a guide.

The tour of Buckingham was excellent.
