I went on the Sunday morning Changing of the Guards tour and had a wonderful time. Jess did a fantastic job of leading our group. He arrived on time and checked-in everyone in a friendly and efficient manner. The walking pace he set was comfortable, and the whole group stayed together without any problems. Jess provided information that was interesting and gave context to all that we were seeing.

I really enjoyed visiting a variety of sites associated with the guard changing ceremony and learning about the history of the Horse Guards, St. James Palace, and Buckingham Palace. Even though we did not see the actual changing ceremony behind the gates of Buckingham Palace, we had close-up views of the guards themselves as they marched to the Buckingham Palace from St. James Palace and the Willington Barracks. Additionally, we got to see a variety of places around Buckingham Palace instead of standing in a massive crowd at the palace gates for an hour waiting for the action to occur.

Jess provided us with excellent advice as to the best places to stand and when we should move from one place to the next in order to beat the crowds. I would highly recommend this tour - in my opinion it is a much more interesting way to experience the guard changing ceremony than spending an hour trying to stake out a spot in front of the palace gates.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a comprehensive and glowing review of the Changing the Guard tour with Jess. We certainly see a lot on the tour, and Jess is an expert at guiding you to the right places at the right time and is a fountain of historical information and story telling. Hopefully see you again with your family this summer!

Andy's love of British military history really shines as he explains the details of the changing guard. He taught us so much: how the bear fur hats became part of the uniform, how the pageantry of the Changing is different from the daily guard changes, that there are different regiments that serve. He got us to the best viewing spot every time and shared interesting facts along the way. Funny and approachable, great with the kids in the group. He was the best!

This was the greatest thing we did in London!!!! My husband, daughter and I all loved it! This was a 2 hour tour which allowed us to see the various components that go into the changing of the guard ceremony. Matt was so knowledgeable of all of the parts and made the whole tradition come to life! We had no idea of the intricacies and meaning of all of the different pieces- people who wait at the gate miss out completely with the full meaning and experience! Walking alongside the band while playing was such an incredible experience as was visiting the different locations of each of the groups involved in the ceremony. Along the route, Matt would share interesting and historic facts which was awesome. Truly- this was a once in a lifetime EXPERIENCE!!! Don't miss out!!!

That's an amazing thing to say, and I have to say I agree that seeing the changing the guard ceremony in the right way can be the absolute highlight of your trip to London. It was a pleasure having you along for the ride!

Sadly we never got to do this tour. We booked this tour for our last day in London and we were looking forward to it very much after fantastic reviews on here. We waited over 30 minutes till 10 past 10 on a freezing morning at the meeting point and no one arrived for us . We unfortunately never thought to check our emails before we went because we never thought for a minute we would be emailed and cancelled. However on checking we had been emailed and the tour was cancelled less than 1 hour before . The reason being because a staff member had to go off and isolate due to recent Covid exposure.
We are now around 20 months into this pandemic and this should never have happened at this stage. There should have been a standby member of staff ready for this type of situation especially for a company like this in a city like this. The company will know staff have to isolate at short notice, this is nothing new now. This was such a let down. The company will also be well aware most people are in London for a set amount of time only and probably won't be coming back soon if ever. This to us is another company using the pandemic as an excuse for bad service and it is now a very poor excuse for letting people down .
So if you book this tour do be aware there is a possibility no one will turn up and that you could be let down in the last hour. Companies need to step up now, the Covid excuses are not good enough anymore.

I am deeply upset by your review and find it astonishing that you would suggest that we would use Covid as 'an excuse'. We are in the middle of a global pandemic, and our guide was told to self isolate by the NHS app one hour before the tour. She would have been breaking the law and potentially exposing you to a deadly virus should she have led the tour. How on earth you can suggest that me cancelling the tour was the wrong decision is beyond me. Unfortunately we didn't have another guide available at such short notice. It was Thanksgiving Week and as such our guides were busy working elsewhere, otherwise we would have found someone for you. We emailed you as soon as we could, then tried to call you, but you had given us an incorrect phone number so what else could we do? As a small company we try to provide the best customer service and deeply care about everyone who comes on our tours. And this makes it all the more upsetting when someone writes a negative review because we did the right thing in a middle of a pandemic.

I highly recommend this tour.

The tour met outside Criterion Theater and it was easy to spot our tour guide with her Fun London Tours flag as indicated in the booking confirmation.

I appreciated that there were two tour guides and they split the group of 21 into two groups. This kept the tour smaller and it was easy to ask questions and hear the guide.

After this check in and dividing up the group off we went. The first 30 minutes of the tour were walking and stopping and listening to interesting facts as we made our way to St James Palace. We arrived here about 10 minutes before any guard activity began. Rosie our guide had us placed front and center to see the action here from calling the guards out, to the inspection, and their formation.

We then quickly relocated to a nearby street where we could see the guards marching to Buckingham Palace. While here we also saw the Horse Guards traveling the opposite direction to their changing at Horse Guards.

Once the guards reached our area we then followed them down the street towards Buckingham Palace. This was a great spot to see and photograph/video them. As we approached the Palace and the crowds got larger we veered off and staked out a new spot to see the relief guards march past us from their barracks to the Palace.

Please note you will not see the actual changing of the guards inside the gates of the Palace on this tour. However you will get up close and personal with both the guards coming off of duty and those going on duty on this tour. If you want to see the limited action behind the fence at the palace just get there hours early and wait.

I far preferred this tour with Rosie that got us up close and personal with the guards.

I found this tour whilst trying to work out the best way to see the changing of the guard. We would never have seen anything if I hadn’t. It was so good, we loved marching next to the band and we have so many good videos and photos. All the locations were spot on and the accompanying guide (Jess) and commentary was superb.

Booked a walking tour well in advance, the communication received from the company was fantastic, from issues booking, to keeping us updated on the tour. Although the guard change wasn’t happening as to what was offered we chose to keep the tour and so glad we did. Jesse our guide was lovely and very patient with my son (a pre teen so you can imagine how annoying lol). It ended up just the 2 of us on the tour and we really enjoyed it getting to see parts we hadn’t already discovered on our own walkabout. Would highly recommend a tour from these guys, we will definitely consider a different one next time we come back to London
