- derekw9930 contributionsTop class tour, top class company, top class guideOn the strength of a brilliant and informative tour of Lincoln with Ye Olde England tours and our guide Stephen we booked Stamford and Oakham Private Tour. Once again this was a well thought out and delivered tour covering both the highlights and the lesser know little gems of these very different towns. Stephen met us in Oakham where he is now based and straightaway we knew that his vast knowledge of his subject and easy style would prove to be a winner as we explored this beautiful Rutland town before moving on to Stamford where once again we were treated to an informative tour of both the major and not so well known sites. Our day finished with an add on visit to picturesque Rutland Water and the beautiful and iconic Normanton Church. If you are looking for an informative and interesting tour delivered in a friendly and fun style then you can't go wrong with Ye Olde England ToursWritten 9 October 2024
- derekw9930 contributions5* Lincoln tour with a 5* guideHaving chosen to visit Lincoln on a short break we decided that the best way to get to the heart of the City and its history was on a private walking tour and so we booked with Ye Olde England Tours and boy did we make the right choice. Stephen, our guide for the day was absolutely amazing, from meeting us at our accommodation right through to the end of the tour he was perfect, his depth of knowledge together with his easy, relaxed style and sense of humour make him the perfect host. With Stephen we got to see not just the big tourist highlights but other lesser known places of interest around the city that we simply would never have even known about much less visited had we been on our own. I cannot recommend Ye Olde England Tours and Stephen highly enough, so much so that we booked for another Lincolnshire tourWritten 9 October 2024

- lobster640 contributionsTime WarpExcellent venue for all ages. Going back to yesteryear, learning how our ancestors carried out their daily lives. Ride a Tram , the visit to the Dentist was eye watering ! A treat in the bakers , a quarter of sweets … first time in decades for us. The manor house was amazing , and a bonus a Tavern next door! So much to see and do , it could take a couple of days . We were time limited so missed a lot , mostly because the rain never stopped all day sadly. We would return .Written 1 October 2024

- T8962AKalisak0 contributionsA really fascinating tour – with a great guide! This was a wonderful tour. The stories of London’s experience with the bubonic plague are fascinating, and it was wonderful to be able to walk around the city and see some of the places where it all happened. It was very interesting, and touching, to see the sites of actual plague pits – now parks and squares – but which were once witness to some of the most desperate and bleak periods of London’s past. Seeing the area where Samuel Pepys lived was also fascinating. Stephen is a fantastic guide and really brings the history to life! He is brimming over with lots of stories and information about London over the centuries. Don’t miss this great tour!Written 26 September 2024
- C223TUjank0 contributionsA truly atmospheric experience of a dramatic period in London's history.I loved this tour and highly recommend it! It was so atmospheric to wander in the neighbourhoods where so many people perished, to see the plague pits where they were buried, to walk in the same streets that Samuel Pepys walked, stand where his house stood and visit the church where he worshipped regularly. This walk really brings home the devastating impact of the Plague, not just on the population, but on the city itself. Stephen Liddell is a fantastic tour guide. In addition to being relaxed and fun to walk around with, he is a veritable gold mine of information on the history of London, and really brought to life a very dark and frightening period in the city's history. Stephen is a very engaging, knowledgeable and experienced guide, and his tour is a unique way to experience London's past. Don't miss it!Written 25 September 2024
- Q7707ZKameliag0 contributionsExcellent tourCould not have enjoyed this more! Stephen is so knowledgeable and wonderful at imparting that knowledge. Very informative and interesting. Stephen is a lovely chap and we couldn’t recommend him and his tour more.Written 22 September 2024
- louiseo3270 contributionsA fascinating and enjoyable tour of beautiful StamfordA really great tour! Perfectly paced and flexible enough to accommodate our group spotting little places they wanted to look at including a bakery and the market. Stephen is an interesting and engaging guide, hugely knowledgeable and full of quirky little facts and anecdotes which really make a place come alive. I’ve been to Stamford many times but this tour covered places I had no idea existed and explained the history and significance of more familiar areas. A fascinating and very enjoyable morning.Written 20 September 2024
- Brianandronna0 contributionsSpectacular!Incredible. Kevin was truly spectacular. We enjoyed spending most of the day walking, visiting and learning many great things about the city! I would highly encourage this amazing tour. We will be back and we will book the other various tours.Written 14 September 2024
- D9795NRannier0 contributionsBest Tour I’ve ever taken!!This past August, I had the pleasure of visiting London with a group of nine friends, and went on an exceptional walking tour led by Stephen. His captivating presence and remarkable ability to engage each of us with a wealth of knowledge—from history and architecture to fascinating insights into James Bond and Harry Potter—made the experience unforgettable. It was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip. I look forward to doing it again on my next visit to London—if only we could have Stephen accompany us everywhere! I cannot recommend this experience highly enough—10/10!Written 12 September 2024

Our tour guide, Dewi, was very informative and fun. The Sherlock fans in our group loved all the locations and details of each given. For the not so much Sherlock fans, he was great about pointing out other sites, giving information and answering all of our questions. The tour took us all over London via walking (LOTS of it!), the bus and tube.We loved it!

We toured many interesting sites that were used in the BBC productions with guide Dewi Evans. Dewi has a very deep knowledge of interesting details regarding the local historical sites and many aspects of the various Sherlock Holmes productions and books. I would highly recommend this tour and our guide to anyone interested in Sherlock Holmes.

Thankyou for your wonderful review. Dewi was thrilled to receive your good feedback and we are so glad you enjoyed your tour.
Ye Olde England Tours was the first to run these modern Sherlock themed tours and 6 years on it is still very popular and we love doing them too.

Ryan was our tour guide. We love Sherlock and especially the BBC version with Benedict Cumberbatch. He is also a tour guide at the Sherlock Holmes museum. He knew a ton. Then when we went to 221 B Baker, he knew everyone so we were given lovely and special treatment. We did the store, but not the museum on the tour. In addition to all of the sites from the show and also historic Sherlock sites, Ryan knew a ton about London. He is patient and polite. Highly recommended if you are a Sherlock fan.

This was an absolutely wonderful tour. Our tour guide, Stephen, was passionate and kind throughout - always keeping us interested along the way and happy to provide additional facts where they popped up. He knew the material extremely well and seem to have lots of knowledge and it was fun to ask him plenty of questions. He was flexible and able to help us arrange things so that they worked specifically to our needs and timetable. Recommended!

Kevin took my 14 year old daughter and I on a fabulous tour to see filming locations from the TV series. A trip to Speedy's was the highlight - especially the chance to meet the owner and have a quick lunch. We also visited some other locations related to the books, films and Conan Doyle, ending up at the museum in Baker Street. Along the way we visited some quirky and off the beaten track spots of London and learnt some fascinating facts. Kevin was a lovely, friendly and engaging guide, who was happy to let us go at our own pace, stop for a cup of tea etc. Highly recommended.

If you are familiar with the BBC series (and even the recent movie versions or Basil Rathbone versions) there are some great landmarks scattered around London. The highlight was getting a quick meal at Speedy's restaurant, as well as the spot near St. Bart's Hospital where Sherlock plunged to the sidewalk. There is a bit of walking (4.5 miles!) and train riding. Our guide, Kevin, filled the walks with London trivia and sites that we would have missed. (Kevin was especially knowledgeable about London history, so it seems like every few blocks there was another interesting (non-Sherlock) bit of London history. Kevin was also great about filling us in on local customs and traditions.)The weather was perfect for walking. The tour ends at the Museum and there is an additional cost (and very long line) to enter. Would recommend brushing up on watching some of the recent BBC episodes. This tour would be difficult if you are not used to walking a few miles. This tour also spends a great deal of time outdoors, so dress accordingly!

We're so glad that you enjoyed our Sherlock walk with Kevin. You certainly get to see a different side of London as well as visiting some famous and almost unknown Sherlock locations. We hope that your feet have recovered and that you look back on your day with lots of happy memories. Thank-you for your kind review and the advice to wear suitable clothing for the day is spot on!
