We really appreciate the fact that the tour is semi private with maximum of 8 people, it turned out only 2 of us for the day because January is low season for travelers. - ElisabettaR170 contributionsInformative and engaging small-group tour of the British MuseumSheldon delivered a fantastic tour of the British Museum today. I have visited the museum many times and every time I got overwhelmed and basically gave up after an hour. I spent 3 hours with Sheldon and another family and time flew. I left the museum feeling that I had learnt so much about the fascinating history of the museum and of the wonderful and diverse pieces that Sheldon showed us. Sheldon is a historian that communicates extremely well information and passion for history and art. I did not even notice the many other tourists roaming through the museum. It truly felt like I was there just with my small group. I am booking my tour of the National Gallery with Sheldon next.Written 13 January 2025

With so much to see and so many museums to see in London, we chose this tour for maximum effect. Boy did Matilda our terrific tour guide deliver on maximum effect. She got us in to both museums easily, directed us and thoroughly explained the highlights of each piece in each museum. Her patience and knowledge know no bounds. She is terrific with all levels have experience and questions. We were recollecting at the end of the day commenting on what a great job she did explaining these important pieces. We would not have had the same experience if it was not for Matilda. Thank you, Matilda. I highly recommend Matilda in this particular to museum tour well in London. Our guide Tony was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable, erudite and insightful. He was a pleasure to talk to and paid attention to us all, including fielding all the questions from the two children on the tour. He made them feel their questions were valid and important and answered in terms they could understand. I can wholeheartedly recommend the tour and Tony and would advise anyone visiting the museum to consider the tour. We got to see the areas we all had interest in and we’re shown things we would have walked right past if it wasn’t for Tony’s knowledge.

Becky was an excellent tour guide! I really enjoyed the tour and the personal stories a long with it. Becky is very knowledgeable and answered all questions! The museum is very overwhelming, so to get an initial tour from someone who knows the highlights is very helpful.
Definitely recommend doing this tour if you're interested in the museum, and spending more time there after if you can!

My 13 year old son James and I did this tour with Matilda, who was a wonderful guide. She was very knowledgable and explained everything very clearly and simply so that James understood everything (English is not his first language!). She transmitted her passion and enthusiam to us and was very entertaining, interesting and friendly, always willing to stop a little longer to explain something that particularly interested us. I fully recommend this tour to see this wonderful museum. I think we would have got lost and confused without it. Mathilda also explained that she does other tours for Babylon at other London museums, so when we return we will definitely do another one. So thank you Babylon and Matilda for a wonderful experience.

Becky was a great guide, clear, knowledgeable and took us to parts of the museum we might not have spotted. Catered well for ages from 80 to 19 in our group of 3! Not just spouting information: also perfectly able to converse at our level and fill in the gaps with conversation eg whilst waiting at a restroom break or for someone to catch up, putting everyone at ease.
Just the right length but then we were free to go off and explore more if we wanted with guidance on what else you might like to see and where it was located.

Our guide Becky, was energising, her enthusiasm and professionalism really made our visit. Getting on a small group tour is an investment in expanding your mind. Sure, you could get an audio guide.. but the content is overwhelming.
The museum is huge and there is just so much to see. A guide does an edit for you and walks you through the complexity. If you have special interest they'll try to accommodate you in a bespoke service that no pre-made tour can match.
The tour takes the morning but would recommend planning to stay within the Museum for lunch and going back on your own to revisit some of the galleries.
The tour didn't ever feel rushed but it had, of necessity, to be selective. Allowing your over-taxed brain a respite over lunch and then returning for another sortie into the collection is a sound strategy.
None of the guides I'd read actually mentioned that the building designed by Alfred Waterhouse in 1865 is a marvel. The brief of building 'a cathedral to nature' was delivered. From the gargoyles on the roof to the animals, birds, reptiles and fish that cavort, perch, run and swim around the pillars, pilasters and walls not to mention, the 96 panels of botanical illustrations that decorate the ceiling of the main hall; the terracotta of the structure itself is an homage to nature.

Eilee is a knowledgeable and thoughtful guide. My husband and I had a great time on a walking tour with Eilee. Not only did she share interesting facts from the history of London but she also provided valuable tips on sightseeing in London and the restaurant scene.

Our family of four (including kids ages 10 and 5) thoroughly enjoyed our guided tour of The London Natural History Museum with Ivo. He is very personable, a wealth of knowledge, and very engaging with the kids. He kept the kids (and adults) interested for the full 2.5 hours. The museum is extensive and would have been a bit overwhelming to navigate without a guide (and I don’t think our kids would have been as engaged). Highly recommend.

I learned so much and greatly enjoyed my tour with Matilda at the Natural History Museum! She is so knowledgeable and friendly. It is such a large museum, so I am grateful that she was able to highlight the pieces and provide more in-depth context. I would highly recommend the tour and Matilda!

Ivo was our guide and he was fantastic. It wasn’t only for his knowledge and expertise but also because he put so much passion on everything he was telling us, that it was impossible not to get excited about everything. The tour was 2,5h long and it felt very quick. The entire family had an amazing experience. We were 2 adults and 2 kids.

Is the price for a group of 8 persons (max) or per person?
Written 28 October 2019
Don't know for sure, but the price is usually for a group. Don't know how many can be in the group but the requirements are pretty specific in the description of the service.
Written 28 October 2019
I am considering this tour for my family of four. However, we would like to spend more than a couple of hours inside this museum. If we sign up for this tour and when its over can we just stay inside to continue to look around? I understand that admission to this museum is free.
