- cjpats0 contributionsBritish food tourI chose British/English food so my husband & cousin who’s never been got a good sampling. Not only did we ENJOY EVERYTHING WE ATE, we got to tour around and learn about the area from a historical & a pop culture standpoint. Our tour guide Luke was filled w/fun facts & history - loved him! He made me look good w/my food tour choice and even sent us home w/a secret food (as listed on the tour) . I don’t want to ruin it by mentioning exactly what it was/where it came from BUT, I will say that it was on our ‘to visit’ list. We were soo full that we didn’t eat it until late that night & we all agreed that it still tasted fresh, light, fluffy w/just the right amount of sweetness! If you’re looking for a food tour - look this one up & ask for Luke.Written 9 January 2025

We booked a Secret Food Tour for my husbands birthday as something different to do in London. We met our guide Dan at Shoreditch Station at 11 and there were 5 of us and two other couples. As we strolled around the area, Dan frequently stopped to point out interesting features and explain a little about the history and influences of the area.
First stop was a bagel shop where we were treated to half a salt beef, mustard and pickle bagel, probably the best bagel I have ever eaten! Next was a Ghanaian chocolate shop where we were allowed pick any two chocolates. Definitely the hardest point of the tour!
A short walk brought us to Poppies Fish and Chips and we got to meet Mr. Poppie himself. Then it was off to Spittlefields Market for a delicious Asian lamb pancake. We headed off to a pub for a local brew, got a sweet treat from a market bakery and ended the tour in a lovely Basque restaurant. We had tea and a pudding there.
Overall, we were very well fed (even my 15 yo son agreed) and learned some interesting facts about the area. I would definitely recommend this tour for those who like their food and are willing to try something a little different. Dan kept us entertained for just over 3 hours and we are going to try some of the other tours as this was so much fun.

After a great Secret Food Tour in Paris, I felt the need to try another, but where to go? New York, Rome, Edinburgh....Shoreditch! For a few years now, Shoreditch has been ‘hailed’ as the happening place to be, so why not? It’s an unusual experience being a tourist in your own city but it is enlightening. Our guide Jason should diversify into historical tours (maybe a TV-series) as it was frankly fascinating to hear the many anecdotes about the area, all delivered with a genuine passion for the area and it’s history. To the food; what ‘British-Fare’ could we expect? Well, Jewish salt beef bagels (can see that catching on as a morning snack!), fish’n’chips, Chinese Jiang Bao, Basque desert, the very diversity in such a small area of London was the beauty of this tour, all delivered with an interesting narrative (my favourite was the origins of Pale Ale, over a half of Tim Taylor’s).
I would strongly recommend that Londoners go on this tour to get to know their city that much better, as well as taste some great food.

We very much enjoyed this Secret Food Tour in Shoreditch this past week. We loved all of the food that Neil gave to us and enjoyed learning about the history of the area as well as each individual place we stopped at. Neil was entertaining and made us feel quite at home in the area! We definitely recommend this tour to anyone coming to London who wants to see places that aren't the typical tourist type and who want to get a much better feel of London and the variety of delicious food it offers!

Such an enjoyable experience. Tom is the host with the most. He is a chef and an actor, so he comes with a strong knowledge of cuisine and he's also a charming and funny tour guide. Our group was about eight people, including children, and he was engaged with each and everyone of us. And the food was really spectacular. You will experience a range of street foods, Little bites from shops, and even a little free time in the massive market. Having what was regarded as the best fish and chips and all of London at the original Poppies was definitely the culinary highlight. And what makes tours like this so good, is Tom can tell you why it's so good because he understands how it's prepared. You'll conclude at a really terrific pub. All in all, just a really wonderful time.

The best part of this tour was our guide, Jenny. She was personable, knowledgeable, inclusive, and just basically great! She made each stop feel very exciting and like you were getting an exclusive peak into what the locals eat. We were expecting to simply eat food but the local history and facts were equally as enjoyable. It rained the entire time on our tour but Jenny kept our interest and excitement peaked. The food was definitely delicious but we’d do this tour again just to hang out with Jenny!

Our guide Jenny was AMAZING. Not only did we get to sample the incredible variety of delicious food available in the Shoreditch district, but we also got to learn about WHY there was a such a variety there. She flawlessly stitched together the history of the area with the food we sampled. We definitely got our exercise in for the day as well. Can't wait to do another one!

Jenny does a fabulous tour. She’s an actress and her natural stage presence makes for a great host to her favorite food stops. We loved all the food and her knowledge of the area makes for a fun and interesting tour. The food is always good, but when it’s combined with the talents of a pro storyteller, it makes for a great food tour.
