- iew010 contributionsFriendly tailored tour full of interesting and fun factsStephen gave my extended family visiting London from abroad an excellent tailored tour of the area around Buckingham Palace and St James's taking in changing of the guard and providing loads of interesting facts and stories as we went. Stephen was very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!Written 30 December 2023
- 325ashwinp0 contributionsTop TourStephen was highly knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. I learnt a huge amount of rich history about the area and would highly recommendWritten 15 December 2023
- N1957RFkatherinev0 contributionsInsightful tour - recommend it!Stephen is a great storyteller and made the tour exciting and interesting even in the cold weather! If you are looking to understand more about the history and the different symbols around Borough, you should definitely do this tour.Written 15 December 2023
- U740CRkateh0 contributionsFab tour guideWent on a fabulous tour of the Borough area with Stephen, in a group of colleagues. Really interesting, great pace, lots of information but not an overload, and tailored to our particular interests!Written 13 December 2023
- michaelmK8634RH0 contributionsScientists & MonstersScientists & Monsters (Inside Out Programme) I attended eleven free walking tours in August 2023 organised by the City of Westminster Guide Lecturers Association. Stephen was excellent, joint 1st!. Guiding at this level cannot be taught - some rare souls just have it. One of the few guides I would actually spend money on.Written 20 September 2023
- K2088RCcatherineg0 contributionsInsider KnowledgeExcellent private tour showcasing hidden gems around Borough High Street and Borough Market! Really amazing insights into the history and development of the area south of London Bridge and the vital role it played. Steve knows every nook and cranny there like the back of his hand- and the best pubs as well! Thanks so much for a great tour!Written 28 October 2022
- helennaylor_hch0 contributionsFun and memorableStephen did a private tour for a group of fellow Westminster guides in a historic week for our nation and capital city. He gave fascinating insights into Southwark and why this area has so much history. He showed us things we'd never have seen with plenty of humorous anecdotes. I'd really recommend his walking tours!Written 16 September 2022
- O9591DUcourtneyp0 contributionsSecret SouthwarkReally great walking tour of Borough market area yesterday. Stephen has lots of local knowledge which makes the tour both very interesting but also fun.Written 16 September 2022
- AliJPearce0 contributionsEngaging and inspiringSteve's tour for my WI group, the Borough Belles, was a fantastic 90 minutes exploring the Heroines of Borough tying in with our women's group focus. I couldn't recommend him more! Well researched with extra historical pictures provided we didn't really need to walk that far to experience a huge amount of heroine action in the area local to London Bridge south of Borough Market. Steve's presentation was clear and engaging and the pace was leisurely and comfortable. Steve is clearly passionate about local history and his tour conveyed this rather than a tick box whistle stop of key sites. I learnt a lot about some inspiring women and I'd be keen to do another of Steve's tours. Great for people who think they know an area really well as well as a visitor.Written 11 July 2021
- ali51430 contributionsEntertaining tour guide who brings history to lifeStephen is an excellent - and funny - guide and knows so much about London's history and the history of Southwark in particular. I really enjoyed the stories he told but most of all I enjoyed being able to see, in my mind's eye, what Borough must have looked like hundreds of years ago because he painted such a vivid picture of it.Written 9 March 2020
- samswift0 contributionsExcellent Tour"WHAT THE DICKENS???" I exclaimed loudly when I heard within thirty seconds of the tour beginning that my humble local post office, the hitherto bane of my life due to an unfortunate incident with a recorded delivery to Belfast, had considerably more esteemed history that I shan't reveal to keep a cloud of mystique. An excellent tour from an excellent guide around a neglected bit of London's literary history. Macabre and mirthful in equal measures, I thoroughly recommend this enlightening and fascinating glimpse into some of the inspirations of the English canon. Stephen was an excellent cicerone throughout; encyclopaedic and entertaining to the last.Written 6 March 2020
- douglasolley0 contributionsEngrossing literary experienceExcellent tour down streets less traveled around London Bridge. Very interesting literary facts and description of how the area used to operate. Fantastic talk on multiple literary icons all concentratedWritten 5 March 2020
- gallagher_tim0 contributionsInsightful tour of hidden literary gemsInsightful tour of various hidden literary gems in the Borough area. Takes in Chaucer, Shakespeare and Dickens in the space of just a few neighbouring streets - well worth going along for anyone with an interest in the history of London or English literature. You'll discover some great historic pubs along the way as well.Written 5 March 2020

Thanks to Stephen for an excellent and very enjoyable bespoke tour to celebrate The Great Walk Together and marking @refugeeweekuk. We took in relevant sites in Borough and Bankside. As a local resident it's fascinating to stop on a street corner or in front of a building and have a fantastic historical or quirky fact revealed. Stephen does all this with the great insight and a refreshing sense of humour. Before you know it two hours have passed, friends have been entertained, and new acquaintances made. Already arranging another encounters. Highly recommended!

Today 19 ladies from our Battersea WI enjoyed The Borough Market Tour with Stephen. In our honour he tailored the tour around women. It was so interesting to hear the history from a knowledgable tour guide who brought the whole area to life. As one of our ladies remarked ‘I thought I knew this area well but Stephen has shown me places I didn’t know about’. We will defiantly be arranging another tour with Stephen and highly recommend him. Although I’m sure he knows his history he went the extra mile to research specifics for us which made it very special. Thank you Stephen. Bernadette President Battersea WI

Thank you, Stephen, for such a fun and informative tour of Borough! I've been working in the area for a while now, but had never noticed the many historical sites around. Stephen brought the area to life with great stories and anecdotes - I highly recommend him as a tour guide.

A really interesting and pleasant Wednesday evening walk around the Borough. Starting in Borough Markets and then meandering through the streets picking out points of historical fact and noteworthy interest. The Globe Theatre, the Golden Hind, the Brothels, locations for movies, Harry Potter Night bus scene, Bridget Jones front door and Lock Stock and two smoking barrels.
Our Guide Steve was extremely knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for this (for us at least) little known area of London was clearly unrivalled although we did try to put this to the test.
Funny, well organised and adaptable this was a brilliant way to learn and uncover the history of the area.
Would highly recommend.

This was a great tour - excellent and informative. Lasts about an hour and a half. Steve has a knack for showing you the quirky things you wouldnt notice as you wander through the old streets past well and lesser known landmarks - all with a nice dose of history. Highly recommend.

We visited Borough Market after going to The Sky Garden (see separate review) - 10 minutes walk over London Bridge. Wow, what a hubbub of activity, so many stalls and so many people - even on a Tuesday morning in March. Spoilt for choice if you want something to eat as there's so many alternatives - easy to lose your way walking around but such a great variety (especially the cheese quarter).
