About
While Borough Market is firmly on the tourist trail I will show you the hidden, quirky history that only the locals know. Starting from the famous market we will discover the heroes and villains that makes this corner of London such an amazing place. Guaranteed only small groups away from the crowds in the quiet backstreets. This is a family friendly tour, with a personal touch. Behind the waterfront there is a maze of streets, with 2,000 years of history to uncover. We will hear about Shakespeare and his rivals, who inspired Dickens and the area's dark side! Friendly, fun and informative tours with a fully qualified tour guided. An excellent safe way to reintroduce you and your friends back to London! Or if you are a local a great way to find about your city's secrets and quiz a real London expert. Message me if you would like a private group or corporate tour. This could be an ideal present for the history buff in your life! Find out about my other tours via @stevedoestours

I booked the tour on line, a couple of weeks prior to attending. We were directed to meet on a street corner close to Borough Market, which I found to be problem free. Stephen introduced himself and we were soon to learn that the other person who had booked (but not paid) could not make it. This was great for us but, I felt a little disappointed for Stephen as he had travelled to the site. If we had done the same he would have had a wasted journey and been out of pocket. However, we were in the fortunate position of having a tour that was a little bespoke to us. Stephen asked us what type of tour we wanted and what we were interested in. He then Tailored the 90 minutes to suit us. I found him to be very personable and extremely knowledgable about the area. He was able to provide us with some great facts and he answered all questions and queries that we had. I am very keen to book another tour with Stephen upon our return and I would recommend him to others. As a small group, we agreed that this tour was one of the main highlights of our recent visit to London. Many thanks.

We did a walking tour of the Heroines of Borough as a Women’s Institute Group (Borough Belles). Stephen was a wonderful, funny and friendly tour guide - the tour taught us a lot about our local area and the interesting lives of the people who lived there. He really knew his stuff and was able to tell us about recent research and links with other areas of London, and answer our questions - he’d also bought additional information with him so we could see pictures of what the area used to look like etc. There was a lot to see and do in the Borough area, but the route was varied and interesting and the pace was good, even when having to get all twelve of us around a busy area of London. We had a whale of a time and cannot recommend highly enough - we’re already looking at other potential tours!

I attended a small private tour in October hosted by Dr Stephen King.
Stephen took us on a wonderfully intimate tour around Borough Market and the Thames waterfront, sharing great knowledge, titbits, fascinating historical facts and juicy stories.
Stephens passion and knowledge shone through, turning a wet Wednesday into a heart warming experience.
The afternoon with Stephen was akin to spending time with an old friend.
I highly recommend Stephens walking tours.

Thanks to Stephen for an excellent and very enjoyable bespoke tour to celebrate The Great Walk Together and marking @refugeeweekuk. We took in relevant sites in Borough and Bankside. As a local resident it's fascinating to stop on a street corner or in front of a building and have a fantastic historical or quirky fact revealed. Stephen does all this with the great insight and a refreshing sense of humour. Before you know it two hours have passed, friends have been entertained, and new acquaintances made. Already arranging another encounters. Highly recommended!

A really interesting and pleasant Wednesday evening walk around the Borough. Starting in Borough Markets and then meandering through the streets picking out points of historical fact and noteworthy interest. The Globe Theatre, the Golden Hind, the Brothels, locations for movies, Harry Potter Night bus scene, Bridget Jones front door and Lock Stock and two smoking barrels.
Our Guide Steve was extremely knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for this (for us at least) little known area of London was clearly unrivalled although we did try to put this to the test.
Funny, well organised and adaptable this was a brilliant way to learn and uncover the history of the area.
Would highly recommend.

Stephen did a specially tailored 'Heroines of Borough Tour' for us as we were a group of ladies from a London WI. He knows his stuff, very informative, interesting and entertaining too. We learnt all about the ladies of Borough. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning. Highly reccommended, suitable for all ages and groups.

Today 19 ladies from our Battersea WI enjoyed The Borough Market Tour with Stephen. In our honour he tailored the tour around women. It was so interesting to hear the history from a knowledgable tour guide who brought the whole area to life. As one of our ladies remarked ‘I thought I knew this area well but Stephen has shown me places I didn’t know about’. We will defiantly be arranging another tour with Stephen and highly recommend him. Although I’m sure he knows his history he went the extra mile to research specifics for us which made it very special. Thank you Stephen. Bernadette President Battersea WI

This was a great tour - excellent and informative. Lasts about an hour and a half. Steve has a knack for showing you the quirky things you wouldnt notice as you wander through the old streets past well and lesser known landmarks - all with a nice dose of history. Highly recommend.

A short walking tour (ideal for lunch break) focussing on some of London Bridge's varied and facinating history. From the entertainment part of London in medival times, to ripening city scape, this area of London still has many hidden gems and is well worth a look. Our tour guide gave us many interesting and funny titbits which added to the overall fun.
