      Amazing Day Out
Our driver was John and he was so friendly, personable, and very knowledgeable of the Dales. The sights were amazing, the villages/market towns were lovely, and the cheese was very good. 100% would recommend and would return for another tour.

      Exceeded my expectations
Everything about this tour was excellent and exceeded my expectations. John was our driver and guide. He is clearly passionate about the dales and his job and was full of great information, I learnt so much today! I especially loved the stops at Jerveaux Abbey, Bolton Castle and the Wendsleydale Creamery . There is plenty of time to see the glorious countryside and John gave excellent descriptions of the history for each area. Highly recommend this tour to see the real dales, travelling along winding roads through many little villages. We were also lucky to have one of the other guides, Ben, onboard as he was learning this route and also added lots of interesting info to the day. Thank you both for a wonderful experience!

      Amazing Tour with Mr. John
I booked this tour through Booking, and I was expecting there will be a small group of tourists going with me in this tour as I have experienced in Edinburgh. To my suprise, I was the only one in the tour, and my tour guid Mr. John was waiting for me. Normally, this kind of tours would be cancelled "understandably" if not enough people showed up. However, this one wasn't cancelled, and it turned into a private tour. This tour turned to be one of the best tours I have experienced during my stay im the UK. All thanks to Mr. John who was so kind to the point he asked me if I wanted to make any changes in the trip. I had a fantastic time with him ( I hope he enjoyed his time with me ), he provided the knowledge, history, and was patiently answering my questions. The places we visited were very beautiful, although the weather was misty but it had its beauty. Highly recommended tour especially if it is with Mr. John.

      Worthwhile and enjoyable.
Beautiful part of England we had never seen before. Guide Trevor very knowledgeable about history, geology, motion picture production, together with plant and animals in area. Was able to drive and at the same time maintain a going commentary and discussion with us about what we were seeing. Very enjoyable.

John is the Best Tour Guide for Mountain Goat Tours!
We did a private, custom tour via Audley Travel, who hired Mountain Goat Tours. This tour was better than awesome, as it was geared exactly to our wishes! There were five of us in the family (all adults) and that was it on the bus!! It was so great; words can hardly describe it! First of all, our tour guide was John, who we absolutely LOVED! He is a retired Lawyer and is using his gifts for history and people in his retirement. He is a York native, and we loved talking with him and hearing his interesting facts about the gorgeous Yorkshire countryside. John was our driver and guide for our full day private tour of the area around York, as well as Helmsley, Rievaulx Abbey and Castle Howard. He showed us so many amazing things, and was so patient and accommodating in making sure that he was showing us exactly what we wanted to see. The day we toured was a very unseasonably warm day, so it was great that the bus we were on was air-conditioned with COLD air - AWESOME for us Americans used to AC! We would absolutely tour again with this company - especially if John were our tour guide!!

Yorkshire Dales National Park and more!
Our guide, John, made this tour of the Yorkshire Dales fascinating and fun! He knows a LOT of history and can tell a great story. I learned a lot about this beautiful area and thoroughly enjoyed the whole day despite rainy, cool conditions. I highly recommend this tour and our guide John!

      Mountain Goat Tours- Yorkshire Dales
My husband and I ( visiting from Australia) went on the Yorkshire Dales Tour early November 2023. From the outset, our tour was amazing. Our tour driver/guide, Trevor was very knowledgeable ,informative , friendly and accomodating. We had a wonderful day out visiting all the lovely areas and everything to do with “All Creatures Great and Small” and the Yorkshire Vet. I cannot speak highly enough of Trevor and Mountain Goat Tours.

Spectacular views from the comfort of a minivan with an excellent guide
John was an excellent guide: navigating the tricky roads, running commentary with historical tidbits, providing lots of options and toilet breaks, and he knew exactly where to stop for great photos! Loved the end of day quiz to consolidate what we learned and the Beatles sing-along! We covered so much in one day and will treasure these lovely memories. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting York!

      Wonderful trip through the dales
The day just flew by! The itinerary is great and gives a great overview of the beautiful and breathtaking dales. John is knowledgeable, friendly, and also a great driver (some of the roads are a little tricky! 😳) The coach was modern and very comfortable (I appreciated the phone charging ports). I had a fabulous day and would happily recommend this tour to anyone

Great day of Yorkshire Dales National Park with tour guide John S
Our tour guide John Sherwood gave us the perfect day in the Yorkshire Dales. We visited 4 Dales within Yorkshire Dales National Park, Wensleydale Creamery, Bolton Castle, passing through many villages. John was knowable about the villages, the Dales and all stops we made. John has a pleasant demeanor with a great sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with John.

Whitby was my goal, to see it again for the first time since the 80's. Pickup was in York and on time and a nice little bus with a driver who enjoyed talking about the region. We had some interesting side trips on the way, including the Litlington White Horse, a chalk drawing on a hillside, something new to me. A couple of hours in Whitby, just enough to visit the Abbey and museum and St. Mary Cemetery, and walk down into town (I was glad he took us to the cliff top so I only had to walk down). Whitby has become quite crowded since I was there though still scenic and charming and the tourist office very nice. Return was a little tedious and not sure why we stopped in Helmsley on the way back except as a pit stop. I don't recall being told that there was a castle there, so I missed that if there had been an option to see it. Very reasonable price and delivered as advertised.

Our tour was absolutely fantastic. The itinerary was very well planned and superbly executed by our wonderful and knowledgeable guide, Lee, who was also an excellent driver. Lee was friendly, with a great sense of humor and kept us on schedule without feeling rushed. He knew the history of the areas well and was really insightful and great at explaining and answering our questions. He made us all feel feel welcome and excited about what we were seeing and learning. We got a taste of the Moors, the lovely English countryside, passed through small, historic and quaint villages, and had time to wander the coastal town of Whitby. It was a highlight of our stay in York! Thank you Lee!

Today we had lovely weather and a lovely tour guide in Matt. The tour was excellently paced and I personally enjoyed our stop in Helmsley (which is an adorable little town) and getting to see Whitby Abbey was a highlight. I definitely recommend this tour and I recommend paying the price of admission to get up close and personal with Whitby Abbey because its a very very cool place. Thanks for a nice day Matt!

It was a really beautiful and unforgettable tour. Matt our tour guide told us a great deal about the history of Yorkshire, the North York Moors, Whitby and the other little towns we passed. He's a funny guy and if you're lucky there's an extra vocal part too. The tour was great and highly recommended!!

Great tour of the Moors and time spent in Whitby. We chose this tour because we wanted to make the most of our short break in York to see the surrounding countryside and the tour didn't disappoint. Lee was our driver and guide and he led with lots of humour and information. The bus was comfortable and because of Covid restrictions, the numbers were limited. We had a number of stops and each place we visited we were given enough time for either a beautiful view and picture stop or tea and a loo stop. When we got to Whitby, Lee gave us the choice of either being dropped at the Abbey (saving us the walk up the steep steps) or being dropped down in the town. We chose the Abbey and then walked down to town for fish and chips (of course) and a wander through the old streets. Whitby was very very busy and a bit too crowded for comfort but obviously not the fault of the tour. Great value.

Had a lovely day out to the North Yorkshire moors and Whitby. Mark was the driver and guide . Mark was very informative and very helpful with anything you asked . We had many stops to explore or have refreshments. The views were very beautiful and Mark helps with the photos. Whitby was very Photogenic and also had lunch there in the Quayside restaurant. What a wonderful way to experience the charm and beauty of North Yorkshire and the moors. In addition to being an all around great and fascinating guy, our guide and driver, Matt, managed to find a perfect balance of humor, historical information and time to quietly take in the splendor. We saw so much on this tour and would highly recommend it for anyone who wants to take in the highlights in one day. A really great value considering everything you get to see! Thank you!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Moors, Whitby and many other stops in between. I would rate it as one of our best tours and the 8 hours whizzed by because we had the best tour guide - JJ! He knows so many interesting tidbits of information, is a history buff and has lots of scenic and off the beaten track places to take you on your excursion. He is also very considerate, a great driver and has a desire to share all that he loves about Yorkshire with you. When we parted - it was like leaving a friend! We highly recommend Mountain Goat and JJ for this tour. You will not be disappointed.

Steve was our Mountain Goat Tour driver and fantastic guide. He was enthusiastic and informative throughout the day ensuring a positive experience for all. Our group was a mix of foreign visitors and UK people visiting a different part of the country, but he adapted his information well depending upon the level of knowledge of local things people had and their English. My teenage daughter and I have been to Yorkshire several times previously but saw areas that we would have never found on our own, especially in the dales. There were quite a few short stops throughout the day with the longest in Whitby itself where we could walk down from the Abbey to the harbour. We had a great day out and I look forward to trying the other dales tour when I am next in York.
