A must for anyone new to York
Fun and friendly staff with fantastic knowledge of the area. Our Skipper Andy, was hilarious and incredibly knowledgeable about the area - we came to York for my fiancé's birthday and wanted to get a lay of the land so we hopped on the cruise for a reasonable price and it couldn't have been a better move! The boat is equipped with a bar and card machine to make the hour trip extra enjoyable. Not to mention, the team even asked if we had any announcements to make so I mentioned it was my other half's birthday and they did a shout out and a free glass of prosecco! Highly recommend this trip if you're new to York.

Had a lovely time aboard the york city cruises along the river ouse.beautiful day for it,lovely fresh breeze up top and picturesque views to just chill and relax to as we went along.so serene and enjoyed waving to people and them waving back to us too.took lots of lovely pics.have lived in yorkshire for over 20 years and first time we have done this and saw parts of york we have never seen before.staff were all lovely, welcoming and friendly, paritcularly new boat master josh in his first month driving the boat.he was funny, knowledgeable,so blasei with his jokes and didnt talk all the way through and allowed us to have chill time inbetween but made sure to point out the important parts of the trip.thoroughly recommend this trip to all.

A Pleasant River Cruise in York.
I enjoyed a pleasant hour on the boat trip on the Bank Holiday Monday at the end of May. The staff are helpful and it is possible to buy a drink onboard if so required. A very enjoyable outing, thank you.

Great trip. Went very quick. Nice cafe on board. Josh the skipper was very good and informative, considering he had only recently started the job.

      Nice river trip
We enjoyed our one hour daytime river cruise. Skipper (Scott I think) was informative and humorous. The Ouse is a lovely river. We later walked from York to the Millennium bridge and back.

      Cruise the Ouse
Took the trip as part of my best friend's birthday celebrations. Very friendly and knowledgeable crew, Keith gave a very informative and funny commentary throughout the journey. The boat was clean and plenty of safety equipment. Definitely recommended it

      Ouse Cruise
A leisurely cruise along the Ouse, large boats, accessible for all, with toilet and snacks bar serving both alcoholic and soft drinks. Great commentary - historical, interesting and very funny - well done Andy! Good value at £14 each adult for an hour's cruise.

Pleasant boat trip on the river
The boat trip was pleasant with entertaining commentary made by the guide. You won’t see the city walls nor historical buildings of interest from the river, except the bridges.

      Highly recommended trip
Such a lovely experience with Raffi, Sophia and Kassan (sorry if the names are spelt incorrectly). A really lovely time spent travelling on the River Ouse with a very informative commentary along the river and delicious fish and chips. Lovely staff so friendly both on the boat and the admin team. Would thoroughly recommend.

Ok, but disorganised and incompetent rescue.
Lacklustre trip where you only really see fleeting glimpses of York trough the trees. However, our boat broke down which caused us to have be rescued, but instead of returning us back, We went straight passed and had to do half the trip again. Utter incompetence when things go wrong.

Excellent way to spend 45 minutes
Absolutely brilliant! Xander and Imogen made this tour so lovely. Xander’s commentary was a balance of informative and funny, but with quiet moments to enjoy the scenery with a glass of ice cold fizz on a sunny day. Nothing was too much trouble, I’d definitely recommend.

      Dreadful
Absolutely appalling. We booked in advance but received a text message at 8am on the morning of our ‘cruise’ to tell us that there was a regatta taking place that day and so the usual route would not be followed. I don’t know much about the canoeists of York but I expect that they would struggle to arrange a regatta in three hours and so can only assume this was arranged some time beforehand and that they perhaps gave some notice of it. There was no warning of this when booking and no opportunity for a refund….which we obviously wanted, given what we experienced could only be described as ‘a go on a boat’. The ‘sights’ comprised: some people’s houses, bushes…a LOT of bushes, a couple of bridges (personal favourite pictured) and some other boats. There was the opportunity to watch a Labrador chasing a stone on a little beach but this experience is available for free elsewhere. You could also ‘enjoy’ a hot beverage at the ‘bar’ if you like drinking out of grubby mugs that look like they might just belong to the staff. If you’ve never been on a boat before or would like to relive your youth by feeling like you’re on a really rubbish school trip, please feel free to part with your money. Otherwise, I’d recommend you go for a little walk and actually see some of beautiful York. Oh, and each of my emails to the good people of City Cruises has been completely ignored.

Heavily disappointed! On the evening in question it was raining heavy. Despite arriving 20 minutes before departure time (you can arrive up to 30 minutes ahead) the only seating available due to social distancing was out the back under a tarpaulin with plastic windows where the rain made the view impossible. It was also sat right above the engine so you couldn’t hear the tour guide either so it became a glorified boat ride.
We asked for the tannoy to be turned up but this made no difference and when we spoke to the staff at the end they advised there was nothing that could be done.
As they can’t avoid social distancing or control the weather, they should avoid prebookings where this area of the boat is relied upon as you do not receive the service you pay for!
Nothing stopping them selling on the spot tickets at the destination should the weather permit but prebooks should be limited to the indoor capacity.
After complaining via email I’ve been offered less that 50% refund so this just compounds the disappointment experienced by this booking
    Will not book again!

We are here for five days on our first trip to York. Sadly this cruise has been our only disappointing outing so far.

We were hoping to learn more about the history of York but we simply couldn’t understand the guide. Admittedly I’m a bit deaf and probably only understood about 2% of what he was saying, but my husband and 18 year old daughter, both with good hearing, could still only understand about 10% of it.

I don’t know if the actual speaker or the speaker system was the problem - or more likely a bit a both - but it was perceived as a stream of very nasal sing songy sound without enunciation or clear breaks between words and sentences. It wasn’t just us, as when the commentary started the people around us at other tables all looked at each other with vague amusement, but this quickly changed to frustration as the trip progressed!

The other extremely annoying thing was the girl/woman behind the bar who launched empty bottles into wherever she was launching them with what sounded like great enthusiasm and force. Each time she did this, which was frequently, we along with everyone around us half jumped out of our skin. We all joked that it if carried on for much longer we would happily launch her into the river with equal gusto.

Shame as we were really looking forward to this, especially considering absolutely everything and everyone else we have encountered in York has been a wonderful experience.
On the plus side we witnessed a lovely sunset across the water, and it was nice to see so many people out enjoying themselves as they sat at the twinkly lit tables and bars that lined the river edge.

Get all the speakers working so people
Can listen to what's being said. We were told when we said we couldn't hear, that probably the speakers at the front weren't working and they didn't want the volume too high so it hurts peoples ears. No chance of that. We expected a narrated tour but couldn't even hear the safety information let alone anything else. Appalling experience. As people couldn't hear they spoke loudly amongst themselves. Everything said was muffled on top of which several party groups were on board making it a party boat not a narrated river cruise. City cruises this deserves a refund we paid £60 for 4 people and it was awful.

The skipper, who also provided the commentary, was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and we were able to hear him clearly. He obviously enjoys his job which helped it to make an enjoyable experience for us.
It's a shame the boat is so tatty- it would really benefit the business for it to have a bit of tlc as the whole experience could be so much more but the actual fabric and fixtures and fittings of the boat are just a bit sad really which is such a shame.
I recommend you wrap up warm if you want to sit outside as even on a Spring evening it can feel very cold as the boat picks up speed.

Lovely chilled cruise with a bar BUT definitely not a sightseeing cruise as all you can see is trees along the river side and occasionally the odd bit of a building. Very monotone captain who did his best to give information and history regarding York. Wouldn't go again.

We took the cruise along the River Ouse, we were lucky at it was a beautiful day. I would say the only down side to actually booking is that you are not given a time on the trip advisor app or email , so we had to go all the way to the place to find out what time it was disembarking.

But other than that we was very nice

Did the hour early evening river cruise during a girls trip away and I probably wouldn't do it again but it was an okay way to kill an hour before dinner. The staff were nice, especially the lady loading us onto the boat and the captain was informative. However, I think the drinks are so expensive for what they are - £23 for a bottle of Prosecco?

Watching sunset from the boat was a lovely experience, especially with a drink served by the charming crew member. What was intensely irritating was the fantasy commentary where false facts were fed to many people who may not have realised that they were being told wrong information: York has the oldest Guildhall in England (wrong London's Guildhall is 48 years older); York Minster is the biggest Cathedral in the Country (Liverpool Cathedral is quite a lot bigger as is St. Pauls In London); St Peter's school is the oldest in the UK (its not even the oldest in York as that honour goes to the Minster school however King's Canterbury is 30 years older). York has enough impressive history without these exagerated claims. Not only was so much of the information incorrect, it felt that we were being patronised by an ignoramous. A bit disappointing.

The evening cruise of York was beautiful, especially because the weather was so lovely. It did get a little chilly towards the end, but nothing that was too uncomfortable. The sights were amazing and it was great to learn about some of York's history - including the stain glass window in the Minster is the largest in the country! We also saw the flood defences which were really interesting, as the river rose to 17ft 10 at one point.
