Mad Alice is a great Character
Brilliant tour, spookily starting with "Mad Alice" meeting everyone one who booked not looking at tickets just knowing their names. You visit various locations around the city where Alice tells tales of ghosts murders and ghastly goings on. She uses theatrical skills to enhance the stories and involves members of the the party to enhance your experience. Really impressed that she made an effort to chat to everyone individually whilst walking between venues. If visiting York I can highly recommend this enjoyable tour.

      Bloody brilliant!
Myself and my partner attended the Halloween Spirits & Spirits tour. Our voucher gave us two free drinks, we were able to try the Mad Alice Gin which was amazing, definitely going to buy myself a bottle (if you have the voucher it gives you 10% off!) Then we were greeted by Alice who told us spooky tales of York. What I loved about the tour was that Alice felt like a friend, she wasn’t showy and she wasn’t over the top but still super funny and entertaining. I heard stories that I’d not heard of before and I loved the picture evidence of some of the stories she told. I would one hundred percent recommend this tour, Alice is knowledgeable and is excellent at her craft. 👻

      Could be better
Had booked to do the ghost tour as staying in York the night with hubby, sister and brother in law. As we love a ghost tour. Was a very busy tour at 6pm with a lot of people and we felt this was too many people as was hard to hear at times. A lot of walking around to different areas to be told a different story. was not that impressed really and have done ghost tours of York before which we felt was better. Mad Alice was a great storyteller though and funny.

      Fantastic
Mad Alice was fantastic! Has us laughing from the get go, and she really knows her stuff. Theatrical and knowledgeable, this was a brilliant experience. Made the effort to speak to each person, remembered everyone's names and where they were from making it seem personal in a group of 30.

Myself and my best friend Rob booked a spontaneous trip to York as the lockdown measures were starting to ease. As we were unsure of just how much would be open once we were the we decided to Google local attractions and trips that were actually running. This came up as the top attraction and sounded just up our street so we decided to pre book. We met Alice at 8pm at a designated spot and as soon as she introduced herself I could see that we were going to enjoy the tour. Alice has a fantastic way of captivating her audience and keeping everyone fully entertained throughout the tour. I was even more impressed that she remembered everyone's names after our initial introductions at the beginning and referred to us all by name throughout the tour, which made it feel rather personal. I would highly recommend a tour of York with Alice, Old or young, you'll definitely enjoy it!

Amazing! We bought our children (12 and 13) to York for a few days this month and learnt so much about the history of the city.

This tour was the icing on the cake and Mad Alice was just fantastic! Attention to detail in personalising the tour with her guests, her humour and character were second to none and I can’t recommend this tour enough. Most definitely a trip we’ll remember… except our children use ‘one for the road’ all the time! 😉🤣

We booked this for 8pm and in the afternoon we had dragged our grumpy teenage boys on a 3 mile walk on the moors. In which it rained incessantly. Telling them that we had booked a walking tour in the evening was akin to telling them that York doesn't have WiFi. Meltdowns over , we turned up in the rain and learnt some great facts about York all of which were presented with a brilliant mix of humour and style. Quite simply, Alice was a delight and kept everyone, scowling teenagers included, enthralled throughout. Highly recommended.

Prebooked this tour as part of our long weekend visit to York celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary and so pleased we did. Mad Alice is York's greatest treasure. She made everyone feel welcome, learning everyone's names and speaking to each and everyone of us throughout the tour. Despite the wind and rain we had a fabulous time listening to her tales of plague, Romans, Vikings etc and making York history come alive on a fantastic walking tour around the city. Special thanks to Ted too. If you are thinking of booking a walking tour book the Mad Alice tour, you'll not be disappointed!

Outstanding! Alice is very good and not only knew everyone’s names before we set off, and memorised everyone’s face and spoke to everyone during the tour. Alice is very entertaining and her tales captured York’s place in History from The Romans through the dark and Middle Ages. We would highly recommend this tour. The tour is roughly 90 minutes and is great value for money.

Mad Alice gave us a brilliant tour of York. Despite the rain and the windy weather we thoroughly enjoyed it, and really completed our halloween night🎃. She made everyone feel included as she miraculously managed to remember everyone's names (we were in a big group of around 30), and she wasn't hesitant to hold conversations with everyone between each location we walked. Would highly recommend anyone who wanted to experience and learn about the spooky history of York!

    Thankyou Mad Alice

We all enjoyed Alice’s wonderful story telling of the many gruesome ways people have died or been executed. She made everyone so welcome and somehow managed at some stage to include most folks there into her stories. Alice had a great personality and the outing was well worth the money. Would recommend it to anyone visiting York.

This review should have been written months ago but other things got in the way. This tour is a real must for people who want to get a sense of York's incredible history and the part it's played in the shaping of this country's history. Alice is a superb storyteller, involving her audience all the way through the tour and using her very special gift for remembering everyone's names throughout. This tour is suitable for all ages, it's told with passion, drama and details all the dark deeds that history has produced. In my opinion, this is the best way to start your visit to York and sets you up to appreciate the city for the remaining days of your visit. Entertaining, fun and great value! It's a must!

We made the mistake of missing the beginning of the tour but we were very lucky to bump into mad Alice with the group on the walk around.. from then on it was brilliant! Mad Alice (properly social distanced) taught the crowd the wide history of York in all its glory details! Huge crowd participation Mad Alice stunned us with her memory of names times places and the group's names, asking each one in turn who they were and where they came from as we walked..dealt with local students out on their weekend revelling whilst holding up professionalism and humour!! And I even got dragged in for a little role play to act out a famous criminals last moments!

Fantastic well priced and brilliantly executed we left smiling and minds full of the history of this ancient town.

    Would do it again!

Took part in the Mad Alice Tour on an autumnal Sunday evening - perfect time of the year for this tour.
We were met outside by the York Minister by Alice who was dressed in old fashioned clothing so really looked the part.
I was amazed that she had remembered everyone's name from the booking details as there were a group of 12!
She took us around the sites of York and told us historical facts and stories which kept me entertained throughout with her good humour and fun nature.
As you walk around it gets darker and the streets take on that feel of a 17th century city with street lights and old fashioned shop windows. It's a really good way to explore the city and learn some history.
Thoroughly recommended and only costs £10.
