Look up. And then look some more.
Every WF building has Easter egg surprises I have never noticed before, even after more than 40 years of visiting Nottingham regularly. I absolutely loved it. Lucy paints a wonderful picture of Victorian times, both people and buildings. A very knowledgeable and entertaining host.

    Lively and interesting
Great tour. Lucy brought the whole thing to life with whit and animation, but clearly had deep and comprehensive knowledge of WF. Not knowing much abt the subject, i was afraid the tour might be a bit academic and dry, but certainly not! Recommend!

Made me see my city in a new way!
A wonderful way to spend a couple of hours and learn a lot about Nottingham as well as WF himself. Lucy’s tour was so informative and amusing, her passion was infectious and I learned so much about the city I’ve lived in my whole life and buildings I’ve walked past hundreds of times. Looking forward to joining another of her tours in the future!

I’ve walked passed that 100 times and never saw it!
Enlightening and engaging tour. Lucy has a friendly manner and is very knowledgable about the city’s rich history. 2 hours well spent. I’ve walked passed some of these buildings 100 times and yet never noticed some really interesting signs, features and architecture.

    An enlightening guided tour.
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our guided tour. I’m from Nottingham and it evoked happy memories of my youth but even if you are a visitor to our lovely city I’m sure you will find it enlightening. Lucy is both witty and knowledgeable. You will learn new words like nogging! I will be looking up in future to see the hidden architecture of yesteryear.

We had a fabulous time and tour guided by Lucy. She is highly knowledgeable and great storyteller as she puts a lot of her own research in the story. We enjoyed it very much. Definitely a must do!

Historical expertise delivered with great panache.
Last night I attended one of Lucy's expertly researched, architecturalhistory walks. I knew it woulr be interesting but as a former student of archetectural history I found the level of detail and quality of research deeply satisfying. She brought the lace msrket alive with a delivery combining great humour and a wonderful turn of phrase. Her delivery of an architect's speech as we completed the tour was a perfect end.. If you want to know more about Nottingham history, the lace trade and the history of urban development then you really have to go on one of her walks. It's a delightful and thought provoking way to spend a few hours.

Walking Tour of Architectural Nottingham, particularly Watson Fothergill buildings
I loved walking round Nottingham, led by a very clever, learned person - Lucy - and learning about buildings that I've seen for ever but never knew their origins and how and why they were designed. Loved the whole tour. It also gave me an insight into Nottingham itself and how the buildings were developed and particularly the colonnades everywhere that I knew were there but had never looked at properly before or thought about.

A wonderful, enjoyable & informative walk!
A great way to spend 2 hours wandering around Nottingham discovering more about some of its architectural gem. Lucy’s obvious enthusiasm for the subject made the experience enjoyable & entertaining (even despite the wet weather) 😀

We had a wonderful time on the Watson Fothergill tour in Nottingham City Centre. Lucy, our guide, knew so much about the buildings and the history. We went in January, and it was cold, however, it went so quickly and it was so enjoyable that it wasn't a problem.

The tour is for 2 hours and covers just over a mile. It starts next to the market square, walks up King Street, Parliament Street, Part of Mansfield Road, through Hockley and The Lace Market and ends at Fothergill's pub next to the Castle.

You don't need to be knowledgeable about architecture to enjoy the walk as Lucy provides details and explains everything.

I am from Nottingham and for me it was enjoyable to be able to view the city from a different perspective, walk the streets looking at different things and learn the history of the city and particular buildings.

Other people on the tour were new to the city and found it an enjoyable way to acquaint themselves with the area a little more.

The end of the tour at Fothergill's Pub was a great way to chat more with other people on the tour and find out more from Lucy.

We ended up spending a couple of hours in the pub which has a great selection of ales and good wine. Plus tasty food options.

I highly recommend this tour.

This, the Carrington Crawl, is the second of Lucy's Watson Fothergill walks I have been on. Both have been fascinating and inspiring. She has done a great deal of research on an undeservedly ignored local architect. Her walks are well balanced and not too long, with a suitable refreshment stop at the end. Lucy is engaging with a real knowledge of her subject and on both occasions I have come away with a much better appreciation of the buildings of my city.

Really enjoyed this tour with Lucy who is very informative and entertaining. Living in Nottingham we knew some of the buildings but even so Lucy pointed out things we'd never noticed before (some obvious and some not so obvious!) and we certainly learnt a lot about the buildings and some of the rich history of Nottingham. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and we're looking forward to joining one of Lucy's other tours in the summer when it's a bit warmer...

An excellent 2 hour tour around Nottingham's remaining examples of Watson Fothergill buildings which are unique in style and, once you know what to look for, instantly recognisable. Aswell as a tour of the buildings we got to know alot more about the man himself and some of his contemporaries in the business. Lucy our tour guide was informative and entertaining and made the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable, and we rounded the whole thing off with drinks and Sunday Lunch at Fothergills restaurant. Would highly recommend.

This walking tour on a Sunday morning with Lucy was like being on holiday in our own city. Instead of going into town, doing jobs, and going home again, we took our time and admired the wonderfully ornate architecture of Watson Fothergill. Lucy's knowledge of her subject was extensive and she put it across to make it accessible, interesting and amusing for all of us in the group of twenty people. She took us to pertinent buildings and pointed out the intricacies of each. We now feel we know far more about these buildings of Nottingham than we did before and from now on we will be more aware and able to absorb more about one of our local prominent architects. We had thought about joining one of Lucy's tours for a long time and now we've been we wouldn't have wanted to miss this for anything. We will certainly like to join more of her tours in future. Thank you so much Lucy.

Lucy’s tour was very informative about Watson Fothergill the man, and Watson Fothergill the architect. It was extremely entertaining with plenty of humour throughout.
We have lived in Nottingham for over 40 years and we discovered that we have spent a long time walking past buildings without really noticing their interesting details.
Definitely recommended.

Lucy's architectural walking tours are hugely enjoyable, interesting, informative and entertaining. The Carrington Crawl was all of these and took us into an area of Nottingham we new little about. She is so well informed about Watson Fothergill and his work and her enthusiasm is so infectious we would highly recommend booking one or more of her tours.

Lucy is very engaging and helps you visualise the stories she tells about the locations. I almost felt I knew the architect by the end - it was a lovely touch to finish the walk at Fothergills. I was born in Nottingham and have mostly lived around the area and I've not noticed most of what she showed us today. Highly recommend:)

Carrington crawl..what a great way to find out about local architecture Watson Fothergill. Buildings I've driven by on numerous occasions, finding out this morning I actually lived opposite one of these beautifully structured houses. Lucy was warm, very informative and knowledgeable with a sense of humour. Would definitely recommend this walk can't wait to book onto the Nottingham walk.

This was a fascinating tour that really opened my eyes to lots of wonderful architectural details and things that I'd never even noticed before, despite having lived in Nottingham most of my life.

Lucy is so well informed about the subject matter and has all the details to hand. She manages to make the tour interesting and engaging throughout, and adds her own splashes of humour to it.

The tour is primarily interesting for the obvious architectural angle, but in showing you the many buidings that Watson Fothergill designed, Lucy also manages to bring a lot of the 19th and early 20th century history of the city to life. Highly recommended!
