Nottingham and Robin Hood Private Guided Walking Tour

By Ye Olde England Tours
About
Our private walking tour will show you all the best bits of this incredibly unique city, home to the largest public square in the U.K. There is one man who epitomizes Nottingham above all else and we will follow hot on his tail to various points in the City that are pivotal to the adventures of Robin Hood including Nottingham Castle. Nottingham sits upon what is known as the City of Caves with there being almost 1,000 known caves beneath the city. In our tour we will descend underground, seeing the highlights, some of which were used in WW2 as public air-raid shelters Visit the old Lace Market & uncover the secrets of this famous part of Nottinghams' heritage. We will also learn about some of the less palatable parts of the history of Nottingham, where many of the executions took place.  We end at possibly the oldest pub in Britain. Frequented by crusaders heading south and partially built into the rock beneath Nottingham Castle.

Airpower Development in World War I
James took my wife and I on a facinating tour of the WWI aircraft in Hanger 2. He was able to explain how aircraft developed throughout the Great War in an easy to understand way. I particularly liked how he tied the loose ends together and answered all our questions. We enjoyed our tour with James immensely and would unreservedly recommend his tour.

Nice experience to a well know University town
Another trip we took not knowing exactly what to expect. We knew the city was famous for 'the' University but actually there are about 39 colleges here all technically under the umbrella of Oxford University. The 'university' layout was not as I thought based on a map of the city. The buildings are very old each with a fascinating story of their own. The area is a working campus and we happened to visit on examination day (or diploma day, hard to tell by the way the students were dressed). There were lots of students celebrating all over town. It isn't clear that this type of information is publicly available so you could adjust your visit day. You might hope to visit something but suddenly it is closed for student purposes. For you Harry Potter fans, though there are several filming locations around the area, you need separate tickets for each one or you need a local Harry Potter tour and hope it can get you into what you hoped to see (again things could be closed at the last minute). It is a relatively easy day trip from London.

Amazing house shown by friendly and knowledgeable guide
We were lucky enough to have a private tour of Hatfield this week. The house is filled with incredible original paintings and treasures, all shown to us by Dermot, a charming and knowledgeable tour guide who took us through the spectacular rooms pointing out the features. The gardens are beautiful and the house, although splendid, has a family feel.

      Highlight of our London trip
This was indeed the highlight of our trip. Lovely gardens and our guide Stephen told us much of the fascinating history and traditions of the City of London. Our mouths were hanging open in amazement much of the time. We encountered hardly any other tourists on this guided walk. Wonderful!

      Wonderful Tour and Guide
We had a wonderful walking tour with Kevin! From the Anti-aircraft guns to the St Paul's area, to the Churchill War rooms, Kevin was a fountain of knowledge about everything in London. He knows every nook and cranny and has so much knowledge, that for us, this was not just a Blitz tour, but a fabulous tour of London. Adding to his knowledge is his warm and friendly personality. We would recommend Kevin for any London tour.

      Historical Excellence
Came to Peterborough with friends and visited the Cathedral. ENTRY IS FREE but in lieu can leave a donation in the box provided on your way out. Steeped in history and if you walk to the back section of the church this is an addition to the original building...took our breath away. The ceilings, architecture is amazing. The inner peace felt was awesome. So worth a visit

Fiction and Facts Made an Unforgettable Tour
The option to meet at our hotel is why we chose the longer tour. Steven arrived early and took good care of us all morning. My husband is not a Dickens enthusiast and in hindsight it would have been safe for him to entrust me to Steven. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and saw places that Dickens wrote about: Marshalsea Prison and Little Dorrit’s Church were the most emotional for me but seeing where the young Charles Dickens lived while working in the shoe blacking factory brought me to tears.

      Fantastic Pub Tour!!!
What an incredible tour!!! Our guide Stephen took us to five pubs that were fantastic with each one having a very unique history (and the beers were great too!). My favorite was the Mayflower, the oldest pub on the River Thames! Stephen is incredibly knowledgeable on London's history and shared many interesting stories about the pubs and the surrounding area. I would recommend this tour to anyone and we look forward to booking another tour with him next year!

      Hatfield House is a revelation!!!
The season at Hatfield House has just opened. We were lucky enough to get Dermot as our guide to the Old Palace. We are both familiar with King Henry Vlll and his sorry treatment of religious orders and his 6 wives. However hearing Dermot illustrate these turbulent times within the very walls that were so pivotal to Tudor England and its Queens , well it was simply enthralling. We highly recommend the Old Palace tour and will return to hear and witness the history and majesty of the later Hatfield House.

Churchill tour was just the best
My wife and I just completed one of the most thorough tours on Winston Churchill. I’m so glad we selected this tour and it was everything we had Hope for. Our Tour Guide, Marty, was the most knowledgeable and interesting person. Eager to answer all your questions and certainly had all the answers. So glad we had the time together.

Thoroughly enjoyable, a great 1/2 day out being informative and entertaining. The courtroom, the gaol, the cells and convicts stories all very good, however the court case is definitely the star attraction

Stephen Liddell of Ye Olde England Tours was my guide and took me through Nottingham streets, including St Mary’s Church where Robin Hood would visit and was spotted by a monk who reported the sighting to the Sheriff of Nottingham. The sheriff had him captured until Little John rescued him. This and many other snippets of history makes this a great tour. The walk through the City of Caves was amazing and the visit to the remains of Nottingham Castle very interesting. Stephen makes English history enjoyable and fun! Definitely recommend this tour.Ends with an ale at Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem pub - one of the oldest pubs in England.
