Scenic cruise with very knowledgeable skipper, it was very informative and enjoyable.
Very knowledgeable skipper, we learned a lot about the area and the river, thoroughly enjoyed it. There were lots of titbits of information you wouldn’t read in a tour book too.

I felt I deserved my afternoon tea even more after a wonderful guided walking tour of the historical sites of the area
As the Oxford River cruise season has finished I noticed the Folly Restaurant were now offering walking tours of Oxford with afternoon tea. I decided to go on this on Monday and had a wonderful interesting tour of the historical sites of the area, followed by a splendid afternoon tea served by the very friendly staff at the Folly Restaurant Highly Recommended

Commentary was very interesting and I didn’t know most of it even tho I’m living here about 2 years. It’s really good activity in winter time, highly recommend.

Excellent relaxing short boat trip showing oxford from different perspective
Excellent short boat trip with friendly staff and young ‘skipper’ who gave just the right amount of information bringing his own experience of growing up in oxford to bear and dealt well with questions . Delightful cafe/ restaurant to wait for embarkation. Very good ‘ different’ view of Christchurch and it’s meadow

      Wonderful trip, despite the weather!
We hired a luxury private cruise on a rainy Sunday in October. Fortunately the boat had rain protection on the sides as well as a roof! There were also blankets thoughtfully provided. The cruise itself was a lovely experience for my father's 80th birthday - the driver (James) was charming and knowledgeable about the area and gave us just the right level of information to keep us interested without overloading us with facts. He was able to answer some of our more irrelevant questions! In return, we treated him to a singalong to the Sound of Music.

      Great evening in Oxford
The boat ride was really pleasant. Its a fun way to see Oxford from a different perspective. The boat driver was really nice and we had a great conversation about some Oxford traditions and celebrations. I enjoyed the dinner at the Folly. It would be difficult to pick a favorite dish but if pressed I would say that the fennel ice cream with peppercorns was the best. The server explained each dish and the wine pairing with it. The setting and decor was less stuffy than I was expecting for a tasting menu. Highly recommend!

      Brilliant, well worth the money
The company seems to be a very small company operating from the Folly Bistro / Café. The staff are absolutely brilliant, the food etc superb, the whole operation is well rehearsed and ran like clockwork. Our 'skipper' wa s Rik who actually lives on the river, was very knowledgeable and very friendly. The Afternoon tea was a delight, the river ride superb and our host Rik the best. If you're visiting Oxford you should not miss a riverboat trip with these guys.

Enjoyable cruise along the Thames with a lovely, knowledgeable skipper. Three course meal back at The Folly was delicious. We were lucky in having a perfect summer evening so could enjoy our meal outside. Despite paying for the meal & cruise in advance we still paid another £60 on the day for drinks, meal supplements & an extra tip. Worth it though. Food was amazing.

Booked this for our 40th wedding anniversary as we met in Oxford, and came with our grown up children and their spouses in the expectation of a sunny July evening cruise and terrific food. The weather, perhaps unsurprisingly, had other plans but despite this we had a great trip with our knowledgeable and entertaining skipper Paul who kept the covers on and provided us with very effective rugs. A short trip up to Donnington Bridge and back with prosecco or a non-alcoholic alternative.
We chose our first two courses before the cruise while seated at the very pleasant river view table. Serving staff were welcoming and efficient. The starters arrived promptly and were interesting and delicious, especially when combined with the somewhat pricey but lovely paired wines. Vegetarian and dairy free alternatives were provided on request. Main courses were equally excellent. The dessert offerings were so tempting and some of the best we've had! The staff contributed to the experience with there warmth and friendliness.
All in all a lovely experience, thank you very much, we will be back!

Very relaxing early evening cruise along the river where there were many "8s" practising for the racing which was interesting. The skipper was very knowledgeable about the crews/rowing and the area and history. The 3 course dinner was delicious and the staff very friendly and helpful. The whole experience was well organised and we were made to feel very welcome.

We had a great time on our cruise. Our host was great - enthusiastic and engaging, and knowledgeable of her history and information. The boat was fun, and the dinner was great. The restaurant was right on the river, with charming atmosphere. We ordered before the boat tour, from the entire menu (not limited by the tour cost). Our table was held for us, and then we enjoyed our meal upon return. It was a breat night.

Charming boat trip! Shorter than expected (35mins only!) but charming and engaging “pilot” (thanks Wil!!😜) Food in restaurant was well above expected. Superbly presented, fabulously tasty and highly recommended. Not clear on booking what the timings were!! Turns out the time you chose is not the time you eat!! It’s the boat trip time!! We chose “8pm” Boat trip 8pm and table was at 8.45pm!! A little disorganised in management and waitress couldn’t explain anything about the wonderful food which needs improvement. Overall very happy and felt it was excellent value for money. Recommend to all! (with these provisos in mind!)

Am not usually one to leave reviews but will for this because it was genuinely so good! The river cruise was about 45 minutes and the cruise guide was just the right level of informative and humourous. We had a few drinks on the cruise including a complimentary glass of prosecco, and it was very pleasant. The staff at the restaurant were very nice and helpful and ensured we were well accommodated for throughout. And then there was the food. Oh my giddy aunt! The food was amazing! For start I had the halloumi which was just the right amount - very tasty and just what a starter should be - an apetiser for what was to come. Then for mains I had the black bean burger (okay I know not very adventurous) which was sooo tasty. It came with really good burger buns and chips cooked to perfection. Then for desert I had the cheese cake which again was super delicious. Overall I can't recommend this restaurant enough. Perfect for a weekend break or otherwise. Thanks to all the staff who made the experience flow so well. The cpmpliments to the chef who utterly nailed the food. Da iawn, diolch!

Will was a top notch skipper with a wonderful demeanor to the guests. The River tour was about a 40 min return trip where you get off to eat at The Folly restaurant. DELICIOUS food and options in a lovely place.

What a lovely evening. Nick our guide was excellent. We sipped prosecco whilst admiring Oxford and the many rowing boathouses. He also told us about the unusual Iffley lock which was near to our hotel. We explored it next morning a great tip off.
The restaurant was truly 1st class We chose to dine right by the river , the menu was of a superior quality. There was plenty of choice and plenty of food in terms of portions. Staff were outstanding
A lovely evening worth every penny and I would say a must to do in Oxford

We enjoyed a very pleasant mini evening cruise with a glass of champagne and up graded to the taster menu with wine pairing. We had an amazing evening celebrating our 36th wedding anniversary. The atmosphere and environment was relaxed and the right balance of feeling special but not formal. Service was very good, staff were very friendly & professional. The food & wine pairings were amazing - complements to the chef & his team. We would definitely recommend The Folly & would love to return when visiting Oxford again. Thank you to all the Folly team we had a lovely memorable evening.
