I decided to go on this on Monday and had a wonderful interesting tour of the historical sites of the area, followed by a splendid afternoon tea served by the very friendly staff at the Folly Restaurant Highly RecommendedWritten 21 November 2023

- 320kathrynh0 contributionsGreat evening in OxfordThe boat ride was really pleasant. Its a fun way to see Oxford from a different perspective. The boat driver was really nice and we had a great conversation about some Oxford traditions and celebrations. I enjoyed the dinner at the Folly. It would be difficult to pick a favorite dish but if pressed I would say that the fennel ice cream with peppercorns was the best. The server explained each dish and the wine pairing with it. The setting and decor was less stuffy than I was expecting for a tasting menu. Highly recommend!Written 18 October 2023

Staff at the folly restaurant were perfectly pleasant in checking us in and the boat driver was nice but they didn't really show us any sights. We did the 30 minute sightseeing trip and it was a relaxing and quick trip down the river but we didn't really see anything of interest. The driver didn't explain much about sights or history so although it was a pleasant trip, I wouldn't recommend it if you want to see lots of interesting buildings or learn about history of the city.

My wife and I took a belated cruise courtesy of a 2019 Christmas gift from my daughter. I expected a fifty minute trip with a bit of commentary thrown in, which would have been quite acceptable. However we were treated to a very entertaining morning by our "skipper", whose name I am ashamed to say I have forgotten - but you know who you are, and included lots of anecdotes as well as really informative facts about the buildings and countryside we passed. We also managed to berth for a few minutes at a very nice pub, before the return journey. I thoroughly recommend ORC to anyone and will definitely be doing it again.

Very safe and experienced river pilot . Continuous and entertaining commentary ,most educational with guests questions answered .the city landscape looks very different from the river especially across the college meadow . Could be different in inclement weather but the boat is undercover . Drinks can be taken onboard from the adjacent bar .

We hired a luxury private cruise on a rainy Sunday in October. Fortunately the boat had rain protection on the sides as well as a roof! There were also blankets thoughtfully provided. The cruise itself was a lovely experience for my father's 80th birthday - the driver (James) was charming and knowledgeable about the area and gave us just the right level of information to keep us interested without overloading us with facts. He was able to answer some of our more irrelevant questions! In return, we treated him to a singalong to the Sound of Music.

Thoroughly enjoyed our river cruise with Captain Nick. It was a very scenic and entertaining time exploring the Thames at Oxford. Especially appreciated the small more intimate nature of the boat and Nick's well informed take on the area and it's personalities.

We really enjoyed the trip. It was great to see bits of the city from the river and to hear stories about student life and rowing. We liked being in a smaller boat than some others on the river. We would recommend this.

We took a lovely cruise on the river with a delicious afternoon tea to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and I'm so glad that we did. The captain was a fount of knowledge and managed to find exactly the right balance between talking about the sights and stories of the river, and letting us talk among ourselves/savour the sights and sounds of the river. Very glad we did this and would do it again. (And as a top tip if you're thinking of booking, you can buy/bring your drinks from the bar at the Folly restaurant. If we'd known this we'd have turned up a little earlier and relaxed as the bar before the cruise! :-)

A lovely gentle and serene 50 minute trip along the Thames at Oxford. Accompanied by a guide who was very pleasant and struck an excellent balance between talking and explaining what was around and interesting facts and allowing the customers to take in what was all around them. Thoroughly enjoyable and would definitely recommend. There is Cafe and restaurant by the river which the company runs and all the staff were very courteous and sociable.

On arrival at the Folly restaurant, (departure point), we were greeted by very friendly staff, who offered coffee which was brought to the boat for us. Our skipper, Peter, was great, providing lots of very interesting information in a fun and friendly way. As well as being an informative, the cruise was very relaxing with beautiful scenery along the way

Would there be somewhere to leave a folded wheelchair whilst on the boat? Would someone assist amputee wearing artificial limb to get on board?

Hi, the boat actually leaves from a restaurant called the folly. I’m sure you would be able to leave a wheelchair there as it is quite a big place and the staff were great. I would also think someone would be able to assist but maybe best double checking with them first.
