      Relaxed and informative
Thoroughly enjoyable day. Very relaxed and informative. Our skipper and guide looked after us so well. The picnic was first class and we could eat at our leisure on the boat. The sun shone for us also.

Wonderful river cruise with a glass of Prosecco. Followed by a 3 course dinner at the Folly. Delicious food and professional service. The most scenic location too. Great for Romantics !

Great trip on the river !
Booked this river cruise for 10am on the Sunday morning and the weather was perfect! Lovely 50 minute cruise along the river - the guy was very informative and kept us amused with stories about all the boat sheds along the river. A lovely trip!

      Wonderful experience
absolutely wonderful experience! a gift to me for my birthday, so went with my husband. Didn't know quiet what to expect but we were qbsolutely thrilled with everything. A drink of prosecco (or elderflower cordial in my case) on the small (12 seater) electric boat on the river. Enthusiastic and informative skipper of the boat. Lunch at the Folly was delicious- served by attentive but not intrusive staff. Again, lovley young people on duty and fabulous food. Exc ellent 3 coursees form the main menu. Only drinks to pay for and a £5 surcharge on my husband's choice of meal (which we were told of before we made our choice). We chose to sit outisde in the "dome" - sheltered but open to the river, on a warm but potentially showery day (it wasn't wet in the end) . Value for money I don't know as I was treated- it was a gift- but whatever my family paid, it was well worth it, we had a wonderful time.

      Great Day Trip
Everything about this trip was fantastic. The views, the guide, the history, and the food. No need to eat at all before this trip, the food is delicious and filling. We may go again but do the tea trip around lunch instead. It looked fabulous.

      An All Round Excellent Experience
An all round excellent experience. We missed our cruise time due to delayed transport and were re-booked on the next boat without a hitch. All staff were so welcoming and service was faultless. Becky our skipper was knowledgeable and friendly and we enjoyed chatting to her. This is a very peaceful and relaxing way to enjoy the river topped off by a high quality 3 course meal in the restaurant besides the river. Highly recommend.

Wonderful few hours enjoying the river
What a wonderful afternoon we had . The reception was welcoming , the Folly Bridge restaurant so accommodating , the boat fantastic and best of all our skipper Henry , what an affable young man . He is surely a great ambassador and bonus to your company , although we understand only for a short while ! We spent an enchanting 3 hours , which went all too quickly and thoroughly recommend this experience / cruise / picnic . The picnic was just right . A heartfelt well done and thank you to all involved ((especially Henry )

Dreadful weather but the guide and scenery made up for it totally. We really did enjoy it. Very interesting and the joy of taking in some of Oxford.

If it was fine weather this review could have been perfect. However in rainy weather this boat is just not equipped to handle it, as with cold or wind.

We arrived at The Folly. We waited a very long time in the restaurant for the boat to be ready which felt like being held in order to buy drinks.

The afternoon tea itself was lovely. Unfortunately the plastic flaps that fold down at the sides did nothing to keep the wind and rain out. The poor couple at the front had to move and hardly touched their food as the driver couldn’t see if the front plastic was folded down.

The driver was charming and the food was great but I would never again risk £160 on chancing that the weather will stay fine.

We had a lovely 1.5hrs on this beautiful part pf the upper Thames sitting in wicker chairs with supplied wool blankets cruising along in a nostalgic but silent wooden launch exploring the main stream and back waters of the Cherwell and Oxford colleges.
The afternoon tea was very tasty, freshly prepared and well presented with more than ample for two people.
All credit to our skilful driver Alex avoiding the punts and her very informative historic narrative about things along the way, she made it so much more interesting.

We hired the boat for a private two hour trip with Afternoon Tea and a few jugs of Pimms. The boat was immaculate and the tables were very nicely laid out with full tea service. The food was presented nicely and tasted great.

Joe, our skipper was charming, polite and was happy to take photos of us all on the trip as well as giving us an insight into then history of Oxford's Riverbanks as we cruised along the Thames.

The planning and communications with the office staff was also first class.

We had the hottest weekend of 2022 (so far) so that does help in the enjoyment of being on a boat however I would still definitely recommend and hope to go back some time.

What a treat this was! Bacchanalia is a small river cruiser in period style, seating a maximum of 12 on cane seating. The engine was so quiet that all we heard was the water lapping against the boat.
We were lucky enough to be allocated prow seating as there were 3 of us. Everything for the afternoon tea was brought on board before we set off and placed on our tables.
Our pilot was a charming girl with plenty of local knowledge, who gave us an intro and then answered questions whenever we threw them at her.
The tea was delicious, especially the little scones which were served fresh and warm. We had great banter with the freshers on punts and admired the sculls as they glided by.
The tour was Y shaped, taking in the college boathouses on the Thames (Isis) and the views of Magdalen Tower and Christ Church through the trees on the Cherwell.
    Thoroughly recommend this trip.

Enjoyed the cruise with my parents and adult sons to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday. The staff at The Folly were really friendly and helpful. No toilet on the boat so we all made use of the facilities at The Folly before boarding. The departure was prompt and the boat comfortably seated the passengers around their tables beautifully laid for afternoon tea. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were delicious. There was plenty of tea and coffee and water available. Our Skipper, Paul, was very entertrtaining,
knowledgeable, helpful and considerate to his passengers. The cruise lasted 1hr 50mins as there was no lock keeper at Iffley so Paul had to do all the work there himself, which took time. The scenery was lovely and we even saw a turtle sunbathing on a log in the river! We were given cake boxes to take home anything we hadn't managed to eat during the trip. All in all a very tranquil and relaxing experience.

It was one of those last minute wishes…we so wanted to squeeze a cruise which wasn’t in the original itinerary. Although it was hard to access the team on phone or email, they were absolutely outstanding when we landed up in their Folly Bridge office. It was a fascinating experience altogether - a grand boat, a very friendly and well-informed skipper who talked us through interesting bites of history and anecdotes. If you are willing to pay a premium to get a private, covid-safe, sophisticated experience, then this is the one for you. Needless to say, the banks are as scenic as the river itself with Regatta rowers gliding past you and majestic white ducks quacking merrily all around.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. We were the only passengers! The weather was unexpectedly kind though a bit chilly and our young skipper, Joe, was entertaining and informative. There was plenty to see as we went up the river and it was fun going through Iffley lock. The tea was delicious and there was plenty of it. I'd love to do it again!
I'd upload a photo but I'm not sure how to do it!!

We received a voucher as a gift for this cruise with afternoon tea for Christmas 2019, but due to Covid we'd had to postpone the bookings several times until now.
We purchased a carafe of wine from The Folly to take with us alongside the afternoon tea.
George was our host and was informative and amusing regarding the history and buildings along the river.
The afternoon tea was very nice, my husband was a little disappointed that there was no alternative to tea other than water - he'd have liked a coffee.
All in all a nice relaxing way to spend an hour and a half along the river.

What a delightful and beautiful cruise. There were 4 of us and we each had the same reaction - this was such a good idea and added so much to our stay in Oxford. The tea was beautifully served and was a substantial lunch for us as we chose the noonish cruise. The boat was comfortable and very clean. Our “captain” was humorous, informative and handled the boat very well. We would recommend this trip to others who enjoy lovely scenery and something different in getting to know a city. We’ll done.
