Private Harry Potter Filming Locations Tour in Oxford

    What to Expect
Your tour starts in central Oxford, where you'll meet your private guide dressed in a Hogwarts robe.

Then set off on your walk around Oxford University's Harry Potter filming locations. There are three total, but you will see two of them — New College and the Divinity School, the old part of Bodleian Library. Entry to these two venues is included. Hear stories about the cast and how the movies' producers and J.K. Rowling decided how to bring the beloved books to the big screen, and learn about the success of the series, as well as other literary characters and authors associated with Oxford, such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Lewis Carroll. If time permits, you may also see additional Oxford colleges.

Your tour may end at the departure point or in the vicinity of Christ Church; central Oxford is compact, so you won't be far from where you started.

Please note: This tour does not typically include visiting Christ Church unless another site is closed. The Christ Church dining hall was not actually a filming location, as many think, and the lines are usually long. See the Additional Info for more details. If you wish to visit, it's recommended that you do so on your own.

    Important Information
    Departure Point
Oxford Visitor Information Centre, 15-16 Broad St, Oxford OX1 3AS, UK
    1h 30m
    Return Details
    Returns to original departure point
    • If New college is closed, then instead we will visit inside Christchurch (worth approx £7-11 per person, according to the season)
    • Dates of known partial or full closures of any of the film site venues is mentioned in 'Additional Details' and in 'Voucher Information'
    • Entry/Admission - New College
    • Entry/Admission - Bodleian Library
    • Gratuities
    • Whenever it is open, we enter the Divinity school of the Bodleian library (unless it is closed to public for special occasions). However, please note that the tour does not visit inside the medieval library upstairs. In fact, no tour operators -local or otherwise- are permitted to take tours into the actual library, since it is a working copyright library.
    • Special Notice: While very rare, the film sites are private university and college venues, on very rare occasions they may suddenly close to the public without any advance notice!
    • Divinity School Xmas closure dates still TBC but likey from Dec 23 to Jan 2
    • 2019 Divinity School known Closures: November 9th
    • Divinity School Known Closures 2020: February 29, May 2, May 9

    Additional Info
    • Confirmation will be received at time of booking
    • If the local operator is aware of advance closures and therefore cannot provide access to the film site locations on a specific date, you will either be offered the tour at a revised start time or adjacent date or refunded in full or upon your agreement, you may be booked onto a different tour that is available.
    • If you book this tour on any day that the Divinity School film site is closed, the tour will run at 2:30pm instead, and will only visit inside New college film site and no other film sites. Possible visits to alternative colleges may be added.
    • Please note that on any dates that New college will be closed, tour will instead visit inside Christchurch. NB if we might offer you a Saturday morning tour to Christchurch, then while we can visit the HP film sites at Christchurch, we cannot usually show you the dining hall, as it is closed at this time.
    • Please note that on any dates that the Divinity school will be closed, we will try to replace with a visit to a college which is not a Hogwarts film site such as Exeter college. JK Rowling is an honorary fellow of Exeter & JRR Tolkien studied at Exeter.
    • While rare, the film sites are private university and college venues, rare occasions they may suddenly close to the public without any advance notice.
    • Please arrive 5 minutes early for your tour at our meeting point. If you arrive more than 5 minutes later than the scheduled tour, then you will likely forfeit and lose your booking as it interrupts the guide and other customers, if we are trying to find you after a guide has started and left the meeting point.
    • If you are driving, then please allow extra 30-60 minutes over whatever time you think it will take you to get here. Oxford is NOT car friendly and it is congested roads and hard to find parking spaces....unless you park at the sign posted 'park and rides' on edge of town on any major road into the city and hop on their buses into city centre. The park and ride buses leave every 15 or every 30 minutes and take anything from 10 min to 30 min (depending on traffic) to reach city centre. So if you are going to drive, then please assume you should be aiming to park your car about one hour before your tour starts.
    • We actually recommend instead using the much faster and reliable train services but again please aim to arrive about an hour or earlier before your tour starts as trains can be delayed and the train and coach station are about 15 minutes walk from our meeting point. There is also the coach service from London called the Oxford Tube which leaves every half hour or more but it can take much longer than its advertised 105 minute journey time. It drops you off either at High street Oxford or Gloucester Green coach station. It's quicker to ask to get off on High street near Carfax tower, then it's a 10 minutes walk to Broad street.

We couldn’t have asked for a better guide(Jake) through Oxford. He kept our three kids engaged and was full of trivia for adult and child alike.

Peter our guide was the best!! He could keep a teenager and two kids very interested for almost 7 hours. The Harry P Oxford tour was very interesting but don’t miss de Blenheim Castle, a unique experience and with a great guide like Peter it makes it even better.

I did find that as there was just myself and two children it was hard for the tour guide to keep the interest with the the boys, the link with Harry potter only really comes real in the hall of Christchurch college which we had to return as the guide arrived there while the

Hi Saltren, I am really sorry to hear that Christchurch had closed their dining hall, when you visited. I don't know why that was the case but they sometimes do this as they are a private institution. I realise this is disappointing but it's also beyond our control too. The hall can sometimes close earlier than is usual for Christchurch lunch time to be served to the college students. It is for this reason that I urge the guides to make sure to go there as early as possible on the tour and it's why we occasionally also have to leave behind clients who turn up too late for our advertised 10.30 morning tour to Christchurch. I do check Christchurch website every week for details of any published full or partial closures at Christchurch and when folks request to book on such dates, I do always forewarn people and invite them eg to change the date or tour start time to get around such closures. If the Hogwarts film sites at Christchurch were closed, I would simply not run the tour and take it off-sale. However, as mentioned in the advertising, the dining hall is NOT a Hogwarts film site. People often presume the hall is a film site but they never filmed there. Yes, it's definitely a pity not to see the hall but the film sites at Christchurch are 1) the staircase and 2) the cloister That said, I am disappointed that your guide didn't mention to me that your tour could not enter the hall. If I had know that were the case, I would have already emailed you to see if there is anything I could do to accommodate for your disappointment there. Likewise, if we ever have a tour which experiences a partial closure, I always tell the guides to add on entry into some other different venue as a bonus to make up for such a disappointment. I have just reminded your guide now to do this next time. Thanks again for choosing our tour and sorry you could not get as full experience as you had been hoping for. Sincerely, Alasdair
