About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- victoriabH9543XY0 contributionsExcellent "team-bonding" experience *****We booked the Hunt for a corporate "team-bonding" event and we can safely say it did just that! We had approximately 40 attendees who were split into groups and given staggered start times. The leader board added an extra competitive edge which kept everyone on their toes. The Hunt took just about 2hrs with no breaks but time went fast (too fast!) and we all learned a lot about Sheffield despite many of us living here all our lives! We also had some team members visiting from London who loved the whistle-stop tour of Sheffield. Plenty of places to stop for a break on the way around including a public loo in the Cathedral. The route is really accessible and clearly laid out, so no issues there. We had some queries for Ian on the run up to taking part and he was really very helpful indeed and got back to us super quick (which is very much appreciated when you have a hundred moving parts to take into account when arranging logistics to move 40 colleagues around a busy city centre!) All in all would very much recommend and if a second Sheffield game is created it would be something we would do again *****Written 21 August 2024

We came to Sheffield primarily to visit the National Videogame Museum, so it was an added bonus to do this Treasure Hunt and discover such a beautiful and interesting city! We took it slowly and did the hunt over a couple of days (about 6 hours in total, including an hour in the free Kelham Island Museum which tells the story of steel making in the city).
The technology worked well and the navigation and clues were good fun. As we were not familiar with the city and we only had two brains between us (one adult and one teenager), we would have liked a bit more detail in the maps - we often had to resort to Google Maps followed by retracing of steps! And some of the clues were very cryptic and tricky to solve, even with the hints! Nonetheless, we got most of the answers in the end (a tip is to look high up on the buildings!) Personal highlights of the route were the beautiful Victorian architecture, the Peace Gardens, walking alongside the River Don and the lovely autumn colours on the trees.
All in all, we would recommend this Treasure Hunt to anyone else visiting Sheffield. It was great fun, good value for money, very flexible, and we got to see and learn a lot about the city. Remember to bring a rain jacket and a power bank for your phone, and don’t forget to look up high to solve the trickiest clues!

Thanks Sharon - what a great review! I'm really happy we helped you discover the best side of Sheffield.
We've got more games around the UK if you're up for it. The closest are Leeds, Manchester and York.
Thank you for writing this!

On a sunny spring day, I gave this treasure hunt a try and got so much more than I bargained for. Not only did I get a fun game, but I also ended up with my eyes opened to many of the city’s wonderful little curiosities, and a fun tour of the city’s most interesting quarters. The treasure hunt involves a bunch of puzzles that will require you to take a focused look at your surroundings. The puzzles are satisfyingly challenging, but not too difficult. The greatest buzz, however, comes from the little details and fun parts of the city that they enable you to see. Overall, it took us about three and a half hours. You could rush through it in two, maybe less. But it’s most enjoyable if you take it slow, enjoy the parts of the city that it guides you through, and take plenty of breaks for food and drink and the city’s many cool little pubs and cafes. I did it in a group of six and it sparked a lot of fun chat, plenty of teamwork, and even a healthy bit of competition. I loved this treasure hunt and can’t wait to try and another.

We were visiting Sheffield for a show but thought we'd make a day of it. We'd done one of these treasure hunts before in Oxford, so booked it here in Sheffield.
It was really fun! These tours are great for pointing out some of the things you wouldn't normally notice.
It really did show off the best of the city. It started in the centre and went round it and down to Kelham Island. It shows you some of the different areas of the city that make Sheffield stand out from other cities in the UK.

Delighted to hear you had fun on your second treasure hunt! We thought it'd be great to show off Kelham Island in the game as it's such a cool part of Sheffield. Thanks for taking the time to write this and hope to see you on another of our games in the future. Ian

Really enjoyed the format of text messsge style with dialogue, clues and maps to guide us along our route around Sheffield city centre and Kelham Island. I noticed things new things in my city and my visitors thoroughly enjoyed their unusual sightseeing trip. I obviously read all the messages out to them in my best pirate accent. Would definitely do in other cities.

A brilliant way to explore Sheffield.
There are lots of walks that can be downloaded but this provides the extra fun of having to solve clues before you get told the next landmark to visit as well as giving you plenty of information on each one.
We were so enthusiastic about our “adventure” when telling the owner of the hotel we are staying in that he is going to recommend it too future guests.

Absolutely brilliant way to spend a few hours, we had our teens aged 15 & 17 with us and this was a great alternative to an escape room. The clues were perfect, not too difficult but just hard enough to make you think and it is such a great way to explore a city. We live in Manchester and we don’t know anything about Sheffield but we certainly learnt a lot and enjoyed visiting a few of the local pubs along the way. Would highly recommend, in fact my son has requested we do the Manchester one for his birthday in November!

Hello! American tourist here… this treasure hunt was an absolute gem. These two gents have created a masterpiece of a riddle to learn about the city of Sheffield and enjoy a nice walk. I completed the hunt with my mum and it has been an amazing experience. I highly recommend doing this. I never thought I’d be interested in the history of a city but when you realize how many pieces of history are laying around you while you walk through a city like Sheffield it really opens your eyes and your world. It’s quite amazing and I highly recommend doing this.

Highly recommend this treasure hunt. It is based solely on visual clues so no prior knowledge needed. Help is on hand if you get stuck and interesting facts given as well. The route took in parts of the city we had never been to and maps were easy to follow. We did this as part of a hen do and loved it!

I found myself in Sheffield with nothing to do (long story sort - gig cancelled, train and hotel non-refundable). I stumbled across Treasure Hunt Sheffield, I chose this one because it said it would take about 3 hours, it was accessible / wheelchair friendly and I could do it in my own time. I'm not a wheelchair user but I have joint problems which make walking a challenge. This was the perfect 'hunt' and ticked all my boxes. It revealed many hidden gems around the centre of Sheffield. If there was a part of the trail that was a bit difficult you were given a simpler route. I struggled with the first clue while I got into their mindset but then I was off. The clues were challenging but not impossible and it really tested your powers of observation. Along the route you are told the history of the location and you get suggestions of places to stop for a break. I didn't finish it all on the same day as rain stopped play but I got a friendly email asking if everything was OK, and a link to restart the hunt when I was ready. I managed to finish the following day. I met up with family and couldn't wait to show them what I had seen around the city they live in. They've lived there for many years and didn't know half of what I had come across. I highly recommend it. I've added some photos but tried not to give anything away!

Really good fun! Learned lots of facts, about the city I didn’t know, walked on paths I’d never been on, and spotted things I’d never noticed before. My son loved the clues and getting the right answers! The hints were very useful too.

I was thinking of visiting Sheffield on Wednesday just out of curiosity for the city and something to do. I'll be alone on this little Treasure Hunt :D I just wanted to know if that would be ok?
