      Fantastic
Brilliant tour. Graham absolutely made the tour. He was worth the trip to Shrewsbury prison. Could have listened to him all day. Had lots of anecdotes on prison life as well as in-depth knowledge and he made it sound so interesting. Was going to do self tour but so glad we didn’t. Learnt so much on the guided tour which was amazing . Not to be missed if visiting Shrewsbury

      Excellent
We had a fantastic tour of the prison guided by the excellent Graham, an ex prison officer of many years experience. We had visited previously on a self guided tour which is worthwhile but nowhere near as good as a guided tour.

Prison Break - definitely worth a Visit
What a great experience, and I would have given it 5 stars, but I paid for parking in the site but couldn't find the parking and ended up having to pay to park somewhere else (needs signs). The Prison Break itself was amazing, and all the actors/staff were amazing and really showed they love their job, which makes the experience even better!!! If you enjoy escape rooms, this is the overall escape room but in prison!!

No ghosts on the ghost tour
We did the evening ghost tour. We expected to be in a group but due to gremlins in the website it was just the 2 of us. Well done for not cancelling on us 😃 Thanks to Beth, Barry and Micheal for a brilliant tour. Unfortunately we didn’t encounter any ghosts on this occasion

      No vitamin D
We arrived on a beautiful sunny day and soon realised, in prison it's always cold with little exposure to the natural source of vitamin D. We had a guided tour given by Graham, who was excellent. He bought the reality of prison to life through his stories and experience in a light hearted enjoyable way. We had a lovely afternoon and would highly recommend a visit. Thankfully they let us back out, I can't imagine how grim life is behind bars

      Insightful and enjoyable
Went on a Sunday morning. Tickets were available to book on the same day therefore was able to make it a last minute plan. Well worth it. The guided tour was led by Graham, an ex prison officer who gave us a highly informative and insightful tour of the prison and shared his knowledge and experience of the country's prison systems. The tour lasts for about an hour and a half. Definitely bring your jackets even if the weather is good as the prison's indoors tend to be chilly.

      Great time had by all
The guided tour was amazing, definitely worth spending the extra for that. Graham the guide was brilliant, so informative and with a great sense of humour. He was happy to take and answer questions and all four of us friends were left thinking we could have listened to him all day. Great value for money and highly recommend if you are visiting Shrewsbury.

Visited Shrewsbury Prison on recommendation from a work colleague and it did not disappoint. We were super lucky to have Graham as our tour guide and he was bloody marvellous! Graham was so informative and engaging with information and stories of the building, prison service and his personal career. The tour lasted 1.5hrs, but we could have happily listened to Graham for much longer, as he kept you engaged and entertained throughout. After the tour finished we were able to re-visit all of the building, as well as use the cafe which has a range of items and is reasonably priced, as well as the important gift shop! All the staff were friendly and welcoming & I would highly recommend anyone to book in.

Excellent day out (perhaps not all day!)

Prison is a serious business and this isn't done out as a theme park fortunately. If you are into prisons and all its associated subjects this is the place for you.

But it's all done in a friendly, open and very informative way.
Because it is a real prison all the atmosphere is genuine and never exaggerated for effect.

Suprisingly it is suitable for all ages. Obviously the very, very young won't understand a thing as it's not Disneyland. But other ages will be naturally curious. Many films and TV programmes have taken place here for obvious reasons, it's a real prison, no need for faking.

The guide provides a factual and at times humourous talk as we walk around all the building.

The only obvious, possibly scary bit is the execution area.
But not only does the guide warn us in advance, in actual fact it's not scary at all. He does go into detail but it's really not a problem and even if you are concerned, leaving at that point, you miss nothing more as it's the end (appropriately).

Although I would strongly recommend the guided tour you can do a self guide on your own.
After the guided tour version you are still free to cover the whole prison again independently.

There's a good cafe on site that's well worth a visit.

Parking...... there is a small car park right outside. But I can't imagine it ever has a space. Therefore just a few steps away is the railway station car park.
It was still busy, but should be able to cope.

Beware it's an app only car park and the charge is for 24 hours.
Preload the paybyphone app before you arrive and you will be slightly less annoyed than those that hadn't, including me.

I highly recommend for all the family.

I purchased a Night Behind Bars experience as a Christmas gift and we attended on the 21st of June 2024 for the night.

From the moment we arrived we were friendly greeted by the staff at the prison entrance with a “You two look like you’re going to be trouble” lol (We both wore orange prison themed hoodies)
We were escorted to our cell for the night, which consisted of a bunk bed, single bed, a working sink and non working toilet (by design) which was truly awful and exactly as we had hoped :)

We then made our way to the prison cafe where we ordered some food (Burger & Chips) and some drinks (Wine and Beer). We were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was, really tasty double burger with skin on fries at a fair price.
Whilst consuming food and having a few drinks we spoke with a few fellow inmates in for the night having a good laugh with some funny conversations about what to expect.

At 10pm we went on the guided tour by Paul which lasted for about an hour and was really insightful, Paul has an in-depth knowledge of the prison along with the history of the prison service as a whole and it really made for an interesting tour, highlighting how awful it must of been to have been a former inmate.

After the tour we went ghost hunting in the most notorious area of the prison, as previously seen on Most Haunted, where we did encounter some questionable noises (whistling and hearing a whistle back) and things such as door being opened then closed, which to be fair was rather freaky!

We retired to our cell around 2:30am to sleep which really does make you feel like an inmate, staring up at the metal frame of the bed and the closed metal door was surreal, imaging being stuck in their for a period of days let alone years must have been awful!

We were woke up around 6:30am with the roll call of bed sheets to be thrown out the cell accompanied by banging of the metal doors, you really don’t get a lie in here!
Back to the cafe around 7am for a lovey bacon sandwich and a coffee before heading home.

We would both like to make a special mention to Paul who did our tour and made our night so much fun, going above and beyond to ensure we had a fun experience, a true entertainer and great knowledge of the prison. Also thanks to Nicky, she was lovely and really made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived and thanks for putting up with us!

    All the best

Our guide tour Graham was excellent to keep us entertained and the kids.
I have never listened anything so carefully like the information, stories and how the life in prison looked ages ago. We loved it and if anyone is interested in the particular experience we highly recommend it. The kids were intrigued and so focused on listening Graham that we parents were speechless.

Very interesting visit and a real insight into life ‘inside’.
Our guide was excellent and answered our questions with enthusiasm and clearly had researched her subject very well.
We booked online and travelled to Shrewsbury by train but were less than impressed upon arrival to see that ‘walk ins’ that could show they had travelled by rail would be given 20% reduction in entrance fee. Clearly if you’re arriving by rail and don’t wish to be penalised don’t book in advance. Normally advance booking/payment is rewarded but not here!

I was really looking forward to looking around the prison as I’ve lived in the area for a while. I attended the Wednesday night ghost tour at 6:30pm.
It was great to look around the place and hear tales of past sightings but sad to learn about some of the grim things that took place. I’m really interested in the paranormal and was keen to see if I could pick up on any of the claimed ghosts, said to haunt there. Unfortunately I didn’t feel anything other than cold as a lot of windows in the cells were open, that’s fine though as you’re not guaranteed to see anything, so no complaints there.
You get time to wander off on your own and sit in a cell with the door shut if you want to, which was good. The guide was knowledgeable and had lots of information to share.

The thing I didn’t appreciate was the “jump scares”, this spoilt it for me sadly as I felt it cheapened the experience and made me doubt if I could then trust the information given in regards to alleged sightings.

One thing that I was really annoyed about was a bunch of women who arrived late, noisy and smelling of alcohol. We had to wait for them before the tour would start, so our experience was cut short by 15 minutes, which when you’ve paid £25 for 1.5 hours, is not ok.

Good afternoon 673freyjak, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are very appreciative to receive all feedback, as we aim to use these for training purposes for the future. Whilst it is exciting to host a Ghost Tour within a Haunted Prison, we can never guarantee that any sightings will occur on the night, however there is always a possibility that they may. The Jump-scare that takes place is a part of the experience, however, it is not a reflection of the information we deliver, as all information delivered on the tour has been thoroughly researched in advance. As such, we would not lie about any sightings. In The future, if you would consider returning for more, we have plenty more opportunities for you to explore, perhaps one of our Escape Rooms, conducting your very own Self-Guided Tour, or perhaps exploring our Standard Guided Tours in the full daylight. Best Wishes, - Jade

I honestly didn't realise how interesting a visit around a prison would be!
Michael, our guide was absolutely brilliant - he was informative, listened to questions and was able to answer with great enthusiasm.
He even spent time with us at the end to tell us a bit more about the ghosts!
We are really pleased we paid the small amount extra for the guided tour as it really opened up your thoughts and brought the visit to life.

This was an excellent day out. We had a guided tour excellently presented by Donna. She was great with detail but also tailored for the audience (we had a couple of young kids on our tour). It was a good length of time and they allow you to go back round the prison afterwards on your own at your own pace to look at everything. There is a restaurant for a bite of lunch varying from a burger and chips, sandwiches to pasties. Car parking across the road was £5ish for the day so perfect. All in all, a great day out and a good price!

Great visit to the prison, from the lady in reception/shop, to the friendly staff and service in the cafe, a great experience!
Our tour guide ‘Graham’ was brilliant, very knowledgeable about the history of the prison service, with a great personality that helped keep the tour informative but relaxed.
Would highly recommend at a reasonable cost. Thanks Graham

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Michael our tour guide knew his stuff, beig ex prison service he was able to share personal experiences and stories as well as telling the history. His method of delivery was superb, encouraging conversation and questions in a friendly and informative manner. The tour was well paced cramming in PLENTY of information but didn't feel rushed. Our tour overan slightly but he still took time to talk to us after the tour had ended before we went off and explored for ourselves- which was good to do as we didn't feel rushed or presured into getting photos and so could focus on the guide.
I feel if we did the tour again we would likely get further snippets and stories as he seemed to have a few.
Would Thoroughly recommend and thinking of doing the escape room next time.
