- The Family E0 contributionsFree Walking Tour of BathThoroughly enjoyed our free walking tour of Bath with Footprints Tours. Tasha was our guide, very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area. There were only 3 of us on our tour so we felt like we were on a private tour. Tasha allowed time for us to take photos and didn't make us feel rushed. We saw all the highlights Bath has to offer and I would highly recommend this tour. Tasha did not pressure us for a tip however we felt her tour was definitely worth a tip. We had plenty of time to explore other areas of Bath after our tour had finished.Written 4 March 2020

- Suzy G0 contributionsThe history of Bath is amazing - so says Sarah! My friends and I went on an overnight trip to Bath, googled walking tours and came up with Footprints. Our guide was Sarah, a lovely bubbly young lady who was a mine of information about the history of Bath right back to Sulis Minerva (see, I was listening!) and right up to the current day with the closure of ‘Mineral Water Hospital’. The two hour tour was fascinating and we were lucky that it was a gloriously sunny morning. I’ve been to Bath several times before and already knew my way around, but Sarah’s very informative and interesting tour made me realise how little I knew. You pay a voluntary donation for the tour so it’s certainly not ‘daylight robbery’!....go on this tour and you will find out about the origins of this old English saying!Written 8 February 2020
- littlejanet50 contributionsFree tour of BathSigned up for a free tour of Bath with Footprints on Friday. Tour was Saturday at 11. Sarah our guide arrived promptly. She seemed quite young but was very friendly and so knowledgeable. The tour lasted 2 hours, she kept it very interesting. There were even a couple of children on the tour and the older child was interested too. At the end of the tour she had explained that she worked for tips only so it was discretionary but sh3 put so much in it that you obviously wanted to pay for the experience. Well worth it and very enjoyableWritten 8 February 2020

I have given an average score as the guide was very knowledgeable and funny and literally the only reason I would recommend this tour. There were two obvious errors in my opinion.
When I booked the tour 4 weeks before the date I asked how many people would be on the tour ( social distancing ) and was told in writing that there would be no more than 5. When we arrived there were 9 ! I was told by the guide that she didn't know why and I would have to get back in touch with the company , which I did and they sent me a lengthy reply as to why this happened and they can take up to 11 plus a myriad of reasons why my complaint was not justified ( including Boris being one of them ) it would have been courtesy to be told beforehand that they would increase the capacity, especially as I had made a point of asking beforehand ( for my own very valid reasons).
Secondly if you book the baths as part of this tour you go in at the end of the 1.5 hrs walking, the guide had to send the tickets to the families on the tour who were doing this from her personal email !!, to which one lady said ' what would you have done if I didn't have a phone to access my emails?" which is a fair point.
Don't bother, we pre-booked the Bath's ourselves in the late afternoon , no crowds and printed off the tickets before hand, so much better as you can pick a variety of times to suit you and your party not the only option of 1.30 after the walking tour has finished.
As I said Sarah the guide was very good an knowledgeable , but as other reviewers have said before , read the small print.

Having not visited on our last trip we decided to book tickets. The weather was poor, drizzle to raining. We had booked for 1500-1515 and arrived five minutes early, we had to stand in the rain until 1500. It looks like 160 tickets are available for each fifteen minutes. A one way system was in force, there are toilets at the beginning and the end but you are not allowed to move against the flow. The gallery section was not too bad as it is outside and very spacious but once inside everyone is herded together, making it impossible to see some exhibits. One room was so full we were starting to get pushed together, with the lack of ventilation. A very strong perfume triggered my allergy and we skipped the room. After an hour we were spewed out into the shop, which is the exit.
Apparently there were character actors present but we didn't see any.
I have visited many Roman sites including a city, an amphitheatre and several villages in Tunisia, as well as the sites in Chester. We are members of the National Trust and visit regularly their properties.
The Roman Baths are run by the local council and feel as if they are a very good cash cow, at £29/adult brings in £4,640 every fifteen minutes on admission alone.
Reducing the numbers by half would improve the visitors experience but until then, give this one a miss.

This was a great tour for our family. We knew there was a lot of history and things to see in Bath and its Georgian Architecture. While the tour starts in front of the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey, they were not a direct part of the tour. The tour really focused on those Georgian assets, Pulteney Bridge, Queen's Square, the Circus and the Royal Crescent with lots of stories about Bath characters like Beau Nash, John Wood, William Johnstone and Frances Pulteney. George did a great job of leading us and telling us a lot about Bath from the founding with Prince Bladud to the crowning of King Edgar to Beau Nash.
The tour then brings you back to the city center where if you paid for the option you will get timed tickets to enter the Roman Baths at that time. When you leave the Baths, the Abbey will then be open for a visit. As always, having a tour guide allows you to get pictures of the entire family.

Must see! - Before visiting the baths I was unsure on what to expect as I am not a massive history person myself I was debating to go or not. However from the moment your tour starts there is so much to look at and take in. Definitely take the audio guide as it helps explain the different parts of the baths. So many chances for photos all staff were very helpful and friendly. You are able to take it at your own pace and not feel rushed, we spend about 2 hours looking round. With a half way stop for a glass of Prosecco (not included) which is available on level to the main bath around the tour. Tickets only available online (at the time) so make sure to book in advance also face masks are being enforced during the indoor parts of the tour be sure to take one with you!

The tour guide was brilliant, he had so much knowledge and he certainly had the humour factor too. It took just over 1.5 hours, but with stopping to give us local information and show us sights along the way, it didn't feel like we we walking that much It was just long enough to keep everyone interested.
The company should be very proud of the young man who was our tour guide as he was simply brilliant.

We enjoyed a very informative and entertaining wander around Baths streets. Jamie was excellent and as usual on these walks we learned and really saw way more than we would on our own. The time flew by and he filled it with interesting facts, good interaction and also with the locals, he’s obviously well known and liked in the city!!
You get tickets for the Roman Baths, which you can enter at the end of the walk. It’s a self-guided tour with an excellent free audio guide, really cool place with a LOT to see. It rained while we were walking around the main pool and the steam was really rising, great to see.

A hillier walk than we realised up to the crescent area. Noone seemed to mind that we were left behind a bit.
Everything we were taken to see was made more interesting by the knowledge from our guide Ally. Would recommend this 2 hours trip, yes.
The entry to the baths of course was included but we were given as long as we liked within there as it was at the very end of the tour. No physical guide needed in there as audio guide provided free of charge served that purpose.

We were visiting Bath and decided to do a tour of the Baths. Very interesting and beautifully done but we found in the present Covid situation too many people got close to us and in some areas to many congregated around us so we quickly moved on. Despite that it was very atmospheric and easy to understand and follow.

Our tour guide was called Cameron and although he showed us some really interesting things around Bath, he spoke very quickly and too quietly so it was hard to take it all in. A suggestion would be to provide headsets and slow it down a notch. Having said that, we did visit all the top spots in Bath and we had tickets to the roman baths which were incredible.

Hello, we’d like to come on the walking tour but there is no availability for the Roman baths right now. So we wanted to know whether we can book just a city walking tour or if a large chunk of it includes the baths And it wouldn’t really be worth it? Thank you

Looking to book for a group of 10, what would be the cheapest way?? Thanks
Written 17 September 2018
The cheapest way to see the Roman Baths, Bath England is to do it on your own. First the museum exhibits are large, 3D, and excellent, but with limited space around them for viewing. My view was obstructed by a gaggle of school children listening to the audio presentation and not studying the exhibits. So the flow was slow. Consequently, trying to hear a tour guide’s explanation will be difficult in tight spaces. Second, the path through the museum is one way so it's difficult to jump around based on the size of the crowds. That is if you want to spend time studying the models and exhibits.
There is never sufficient time to learn a great deal from a museum. There are too many impediments. The best way to learn anything about the Roman Baths in Bath, England is to learn about it from the comfort of your easy chair before you go. If you don't have time for that, do a reconnaissance via you-tube. Rick Steves has a good video. And Wikipedia has a good wright up with photos. I also recommend subscribing to the Amazon Prime/ Great Courses for a month to view the course called "Understanding Greek and Roman Technology." It will cost less than $10 USD.
To prepare your short introduction to the Baths for your group, consider your audience. Consider their background knowledge. Consider what they want to know at the end of this adventure. Review the available online material and determine what is important to your group. If possible give them a bibliography, and list of media such as videos to review prior to you tour. If possible have a discussion group prior to your visit and after.
There are four parts to the Bath Complex. See the W i k i p e d i a article to quickly learn more. The history of the Baths covers over 2,000 years so there are many topics about which to learn, should you have the interest.
