      Private National Stud tour
We had a lovely private tour of the National Stud with Nigel today. Brilliant to see some of the foals & stallions up close & even got to feed polo's to The Tin Man & Lord Windermere. Thank you Nigel

      Fantastic Day
Hi We did the Tattersalls tour which included the museum and visit to Rae Guests stable as well. We started on the Warren Hill gallops and made our way around Newmarket to the various stop off points. We had lunch at the museum which was very nice and finished up at the sales. Everything was fantastic and we had a great day and learnt lots about horses and the town. We will certainly look at other tours in future and would recommend highly.

      Fantastic tour!
I have just returned from having a private tour of the National Stud, which I bought as a Father’s Day present for my dad. Right from the start, Emma who booked it all for me was so personable and accommodating, was a pleasure to deal with. What a fabulous tour! Sandie our guide was lovely, knowledgable and clearly passionate about her role and the horses! The ladies in the cafe were lovely too and it’s obvious that everyone loves working there! We will definitely be back in the Spring to see all the foals. Loved it!

5 star experience on the Tattersalls tour
We were part of the recent tattersall’s tour in Newmarket headed up by Char, a very knowledgeable friendly lady who really knows the racing industry inside out. Would definitely recommend this tour and I am sure we will be back on another tour , Thank you for a great tour.

      Fabulous in every way
We did the Tattersalls tour which included the gallops, stable visit, fabulous brunch at National Horse Racing Museum and the sales. It was just perfect . So interesting and our guide Larry was just amazing, knowledgeable, funny and so helpful. Will definitely do a further tour with them.

      Highly recommended …
A lovely day. Collected in a minibus by a cheery driver and toured several sites. Watched the horses on the gallops, many of the yards were pointed out to us, then an interesting tour of the beautiful Godolphin stud. Saw several stallions and it was interesting to hear how they are looked after. Back to our starting point then for a very nice glass of Prosecco and two course lunch at the hotel. I’ll be looking for another your next year - would highly recommend!

      Informative and thrilling
Informative and thrilling tour of the National Stud, meeting Stradivarius and other important stallions standing there. Nigel, our guide, was amusing yet interesting and an acquaintance of mine commented that his was the best tour she'd been on, out of at least 3 tours there. When I told Nigel I had a tiny share in one of the in-foal mares being boarded there he made a special detour to her paddock for me to meet her. I'd love to upload a photo of Strad but I don't have his owner's permission. Taking photos is allowed but they may not be uploaded to social media or the web.

      A Brilliant Day
The Full Day Frankel Tour is a brilliant day out. Every part of the day exceeded expectations building up to the highlight which was meeting Frankel. We also got to meet Oasis Dream, Bated Breath and Kingman. What a treat. All at Banstead Manor were welcoming and informative. Lunch was delicious and our hosts for the day, Larry and Lady Jane, were excellent too.

      Tour of a Lifetime
Went on the Frankel tour. The booking process was very easy and the information pre-tour was excellent. Our tour in late 2022 was temporarily delayed by a month due to extreme heat and the options for either accepting the new date or alternative arrangements were excellent and very easy. The tour includes a visit to the National Horse Racing Museum. I had visited here before but took advantage of another informative trip, with a temporary visit and a look round the wonderful bookshop. Onto the main bit of the tour......Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud. The minibus picked us up from the NHRM and the driver, I think he was called Larry, was excellent and informative. We had a quick stop at the top of Moulton Road to look over the gallops and had some sights pointed out, more of which was included on the drive to Banstead Manor. On arrival at the stud, we received a very warm welcome from Juddmonte staff. They explained the basic layout of the stud, a few ground rules - photography was allowed but no videos and we were off on the short walk to the stallion block. The tour states that you are guaranteed to see Frankel, but not the other Juddmonte stallions, but they will be on show if their schedule allows. We were very very lucky and saw Bated Breath, Expert Eye, Kingman, Oasis Dream and Frankel. This really was a dream come true and to see such wonderful racehorses in their new stud life was a pinch me moment. The staff were very friendly and informative. Providing background info on all 5 stallions, answering questions and just very relaxed and friendly. Each stallion was paraded, posed from different angles and although it went very quickly, when I checked my photos later, each stallion was on show for around 10 minutes!! All too soon, we were on the minibus back to the NHRM, via a tour of the covering shed and also receiving a wonderful goody bag from Juddmonte. Our driver also provided lots of local info on the drive back. They do ask that if you have done the Frankel tour before to only do it once and I totally agree. With limited spaces each year, as many people as possible should be able to see this horse of a lifetime. This was my first tour with Discover Newmarket and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again based on the overall experience. Thank you.

Lovely time at the National Stud
We really enjoyed our tour of the National Stud. Nigel was our guide and provided lots of information with plenty of humour. Good value for money. August is a relatively quiet time at the Stud but there were still plenty of horses to see. We were told May is the busiest time. At the end of the tour we feed 2 retired racehorses with polos. Just a lovely experience.

      A Brilliant Day
Seeing Frankel the superstar, now a super stud. The day started with a tour of the Rowley Mile racecourse, then up on the gallops, a tour of Marco Botti's training yard followed by lunch at Bedford Lodge. Then....... off to Banstead to see the amazing Frankel. Larry our guide for the day was excellent, gave lots of information, friendly with a great sense of humour.

      Fantastic Newmarket experience
This was a birthday present and what an experience to remember. Our tour guide Larry Bowden brought the tour to another level by sharing his stories of racing and his knowledge of all the racing yards was phenomenal. Would highly recommend a visit. Try having a go on the simulator it gives an idea of what stamina is needed by the jockey’s

      National Stud Tour
My wife and I joined the National Stud Tour on 16th June 2023 which was excellent. Our Guide, Nigel Wright, was extremely knowledgeable and informative. It was a pleasure to see STRADIVARIUS settled in his new home. The tour lasted about 90 minutes and was thoroughly enjoyable. We took the tour in September last year and it was so fascinating that we repeated it this year a little earlier. Highly recommended.

Both myself and my wife are big fans of Dick Francis books. We really enjoyed the Dick Francis tour. Sandie our guide really knew her stuff regarding the novels that were set in and around Newmarket.
One of the highlights was to stand at the top of the Warren Hill gallops and view the town from this location. The icing on the cake was the tea and scones at the Bedford Lodge, a venue that really adds a touch of class to this trip and sums up Newmarket at it's best.
Would definitely look at more future events and we are interested in the forthcoming Henry Cecil weekend in September.

We booked a two person tour as I had a mobility scooter and thought it would be easier, and we were not sure what to expect, WOW what a great tour Larry was our tour guide and how lucky were we. Larry Bowden has so much knowledge, experience about horses makes him perfect for this role, and he also has great understanding of my mobility requirements. He came across as someone who has so much passion about this industry. He should be really proud of how he handles the customers and the company should be so grateful that Larry and his passion is explained to us in great detail. Thank you Larry you are amazing and a legend. Keep doing what you do.

Frankel Tour 4th Aug - What an experience! A must for anyone who loves horse racing! Our tour guide Larry was very helpful & informative, telling us about all the difference training yards & the famous Warren Hill. Everyone at the Juddmonte Stud was very friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. We got to see all 5 stallions (Oasis Dream, Expert Eye, Bated Breathe, Kingman & the legend that is Frankel), each were presented to the tour for photos and were told all about their achievements and stud careers so far (it wasn’t a quick, parade the horse for two minutes).

National Stud Tour - 5th Aug - Again another excellent experience, our tour guide Gaynor was extremely information about the history of the National Stud and showed us around the stud to see the stallions and young foals (even letting us see the foals up close for a stroke). Ending the tour with a visit to see their two ex race horses was a extra surprise, providing polo's for each tour guest to feed them.
Feeding a polo to a former Gold Cup champion (Lord Windermere) & a Platinum Jubilee Stakes winner (The Tin Man) was just one of the highlights of the few days we spent in Newmarket!

The half-day tour called the New Market Experience is well worth the time and money. You meet your guide at The National Stud just outside of town. Our guide Char was amazing! She was a fountain of knowledge and you could tell she loved horses and was passionate about Newmarket and racing. In a comfortable van, you will stop and see Warren Hill, some other training areas, visit a training yard, see horses up close, have tea/coffee and cake, see the stallions (from a distance), and your guide will enlighten you with information that will keep you interested and amazed. If you love horses (if you are visiting Newmarket, you surely do!), this is a must do. If you catch the dates right, you can do the Ultimate Newmarket Experience, which is a longer day. We are here for three days and this was a perfect way to start our time here in Newmarket.

Frankel Tour 11th August ‘22 - This day exceeded all expectations and is fully recommended. Don’t be put off by the £200 cost, at that price it is a bargain. A guided tour behind the scenes at the Rowley Mile course followed by an enthralling visit to James Fanshawe’s Pegasus stables. At midday there is a fantastic three course meal, with drinks, at the Bedford Lodge Hotel. After lunch it was off to Juddmonte to see the stallions including Expert Eye, Bated Breath, Kingman and the greatest racehorse of all time, Frankel. Loads of goodies handed to us as we left to round off a great day. Larry is the best guide you can wish for, knowledgable and very humorous! Lady Cecil was a total delight, so kind and interested in all the visitors. A wonderful day out.

We visited the Jockey Club in Newmarket with Discover Newmarket - the tour included afternoon tea.

The Jockey Club is fascinating, tour guide was very good, tour extensive and well organised and the tea excellent - what more can I add.

(Given the very high quality of the afternoon tea in beautiful surrounds, we felt the overall price was reasonable)

Brilliant day and incredible value for money 10/10. Started the day going to the gallops and then having a tour of the country stud in which Larry our tour guide was excellent in providing us with information about the history of breeding and answering any questions we had. We was lucky enough to see a six week old foal who was from Kingman and one for the future! Then whilst we was there we had brunch which was a full English breakfast with a glass of buck fizz and was very good. We then went to the racecourse for our tour and had access to the royal’s box, weighing room and the parade ring. Adding to this, we got told we would be in the parade ring just before first race, which was quite surreal as no ticket could give you access to this. Once this had finished we was then left to our own devices and went and watched the days racing in which our tickets gave us access to more a less anywhere on the racecourse.
All in all a fantastic day and would highly recommend to anyone who has a passion horse racing or just loves horses in general. A special mention to our tour guide Larry again who was excellent in hosting.

We decided to join the National Stud tour while visiting Newmarket but the tour wasn't as interesting as we expected it to be. Firstly, we are not very familiar with horses and horse racing but we are open to learning more about various things. However, this tour catered mostly to people who were already familiar with horses and racing and the terminology used there.

The tour was about 1.5 hours long and involved a bit of walking and some time in the shuttle bus. While on the bus, the guide was pointing various things in all directions but it was difficult to see them from the bus unless it was on the same side we were sitting.

We also found the group was a bit big. We were 24 people and at times we couldn't hear the guide well enough. The guide was also moving a bit fast and wasn't waiting for everyone to gather up before starting the commentary for each point.

I was expecting a more behind-the-scenes tour of how the stud was operating, but the main sights of the tour were lots of green spaces and a few horses. However, the only time we got enough time with the horses there was during the last stop when we got to feed them some polos. This was also my favourite stop on the tour as it was the most engaging.

Proper horse enthusiasts seemed to have enjoyed the tour better than us, but nevertheless, it was an interesting experience for us too.

I have been looking forward to this tour since we were recommended it two years ago by another Discover Newmarket guide. WOW! What a day.
Our tour guide , Larry met us at Newmarket Racecourse and we were introduced to Lady Jane Cecil , who was also to accompany us.
We first had an amazing look around Newmarket Racecourse itself and went right up to the top of the stand for some fantastic views. ( we also visited some private boxes, including the Royal Box). We felt very privileged to be able to see these areas and Larry gave us great information about the racecourse, with Lady Jane also giving some lovely memories of her own.
Then we also visited the gallops and went on to a racehorse trainer. We were welcomed to Marco Botti ‘s by Connor, who was fantastic showing us the wonderful facilities and lovely horses.
Then it was off to lunch at the Bedford Lodge, also a wonderful experience as we were treated to excellent food and company. ( it was great to meet and talk to people in our group, all sharing racing experiences and information ).
Finally, last but not least , was the highlight of the day for many of us, our visit to the stallions and to see the GREAT Frankel. The facilities at Banstead Manor are so luxurious and the best I’ve ever seen for stallion accommodation. We saw the other stallions first, then out walked Frankel. We were all completely in awe, such an amazing experience to see him in the ‘flesh’. I was totally taken by his presence and wonderful character. It was lovely to see Lady Cecil offer him a carrot and I’m sure he remembers her. His handler, Rob, also talked to us about his character and what he is like to look after. The staff at the stud were lovely and full of information about the stallions and mating process.
A BIG thank you to Discover Newmarket for organising such a fantastic tour.
Larry was amazing in showing us all the wonders of Newmarket and gave us some great information. ( I was very interested to find out where the trainers were as Larry pointed them out to us as we travelled through the town).
What an absolute privilege to spend time with Lady Cecil and have her personal memories of times in racing and particularly with Frankel.
It was also so interesting to see the actual workings of the racing industry in Newmarket . We saw first hand how it is all connected. It is the second time I have done a tour with Discover Newmarket and will definitely be back for another as it is such a well organised, enjoyable and informative experience.

I was given the chance to go on the Frankel tour as a gift.
It was an amazing day that I will never forget. It began outside Newmarket Racecourse, a mini bus collected us , drove around Newmarket, went on a stable tour at Marco Botti’s yard. The staff there were lovely and friendly. We had a beautiful lunch at the Bedford Spa hotel. After that off to Banstead Manor to see Frankel. It was amazing . He was the last of four stallions. The feeling you get is best described as emotional! He has an aura around him. He sauntered out and stood in front of us, I couldn’t speak, so calm. Larry was our guide and is fantastic. Lady Jane was with us which made the day really special. We can’t thank people enough for that amazing day. It was Wednesday 17th August 2023.
