We fancied trying something different in our local city and as we’d experienced a food and drink tour in Nice we chose to try out this local one. Wow! What a fab decision that was. Amy, our guide, was friendly, informative and kept us on track without being domineering. We’d booked the tour to enjoy a catch up with our friends so with COVID rules this made it a cosy bubble.
Although we regularly eat out in Newcastle and thought we knew most places, Amy had selected an outstanding range of places of which we’d only been to one before.
We met at the Monument, then walked to the Grainger Market to sample some Indian street food from Snackwallah - soooo tasty! Next stop was Firebrick Brewery, also in the Grainger Market, where we sampled a couple of beers and enjoyed a chat with the owner.
Off outside next with a short walk to Blackfriars. We were warmly welcomed by staff and offered white, red or rose wine. Amy explained we were about to sample some orange cured salmon so we all chose white wine. Gorgeous salmon and the white wine was so well matched to it. Very enjoyable.
Time to move on and another stroll chatting with Amy as we wandered the streets of Newcastle, taking a slightly quieter route than the busy thoroughfares. We arrived at Kaltur our penultimate destination. Where we were treated to a Spanish meat board washed down with a robust crianza. Again another very tasty treat. The selection of meats was fab and the wine matched them perfectly.
Final destination was The French Quarter where we were presented with three small desserts with a dessert wine to match each. I’m not a lover of dessert wines but I was wowed by this selection! Perfect end to a perfect few hours.
Amy is the perfect host, giving enough information about each place without being overwhelming, she left us to eat and drink at our leisure so we could relax and enjoy the experiences without being looked over.
We have certain,y discovered eating places that we’d love to return to.
If you’re local book this tour and discover things you didn’t know and places you may not have tried yet. If you’re a visitor, this is a great way to find out a bit more about the city centre and sample some unexpected delights.
Tour destinations can differ but I doubt the standard would be any less!
Can’t wait to try another tour as there are several on offer.

Thank you Amy for a truly wonderful experience; a truly eclectic mix of different foods from wonderful eateries. Along with one other delightful couple and interspersed with some history of the city it was a thoroughly enjoyable 3 hours. For anyone who loves their food and drink mixed with city history i would recommend this tour.

I was looking for something different to do with my friends for my 30th birthday and this tour came highly recommended. It certainly didn’t disappoint!! All the food was amazing and each place was very accommodating as a few of us had different dietary requirements, but nothing seemed to be an issue! The restaurants and our wonderful guide Avril were also very helpful in making the tour fully accessible for my friend who uses a wheelchair. As well as being very accommodating our guide Avril was very knowledgable not only about the food, but some interesting local history facts too. The afternoon felt very relaxed and we had plenty of time in each restaurant to chat and enjoy the food and drinks. There were 6 of us in the group, and as I’d mentioned it was for my 30th birthday we got a private tour which was a bonus during the busy summer season! Would highly recommend the tour to others and really grateful to Avril and the whole Triple A tours team for making it a wonderful day that we all thoroughly enjoyed!

I booked the Newcastle food tour because even if I do like food, I was interested in learning something about the city, or food, or at least meet locals and having a relaxed time.
We got some really good food (shout out to Snackwallah!!!) and drinks but the guide hardly spent any time with the group. We were lead between different places, got food and wine (no complaints there) and the guide disappeared, until it was time to move.
So if you are interested in hearing anything about Newcastle, the north-east, the food you are eating, the food culture or anything like that you should just google. If you need help getting between good places and want to maybe meet a group of nice people while doing so, you can book this tour.

Hi
Thank you for your feedback. Great to hear that the food and drinks were good and that you enjoyed the restaurants that we work with. It’s such a shame that the rating does not reflect this as this is the main backbone to our business.
So sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your tour. However as you mentioned in your review, meeting lovely people and being shown good places to eat is what our tours are actually all about. As tours guides we are with you throughout your journey to every food stop but we do leave you to enjoy your meal with the group. Our guides always pop back and fourth to the table to ensure that you are being looked after at every stop.
We do however appreciate your feedback.

A fabulous afternoon spent with a like minded couple ( we only met on the tour ) experiencing the Granger Market and some restaurants that I did not know existed in my own city. The tour leader Luke was a really nice young lad knowledgeable on local history and he seemed to know his beers and wine …. We visited a local brewery shop a street food venue Blackfriars for some delicious wine and cured salmon a Spanish restaurant where we had a delicious Rioja and meat platter and eventually a quayside restaurant for more wine and pudding but I had cheese!
This comes highly recommended as a great day out visiting places I didn’t really know were there . We will try some of the tours on offer

Hi Amy, just wanted to say we had a fantastic time on the food tour, Andrew our tour guide was very knowledgeable and very friendly and pointed out local historical sites.
The food was amazing in each of the eateries and very different in each too, from the Indian street food in Grainger market where we had a taster of Mumbai. The owners passion and enthusiasm and we enjoyed hearing the story behind their business. The local beers in the market were lovely too. The next stop was Blackfiars resturant where we had goats cheese with beetroot and candied walnuts. And a huge glass of wine there too, the setting was perfect.
Next stop kaltur where we had the mixed spanish cheese and meat and red wine sangria. The staff there were chatting to us and very passionate about the restaurant. We will definetly be back there next time we are in Newcastle.
Our last stop we were in the French Quarter where we had a trio of three of the most delicious desserts paired with desert wines. That was really tasty.
We enjoyed every part of the tour and it was a great way to experience different parts of Newcastle that we would never have found on our own. And it was excellent value for money.
We will recommend this tour to anyone travelling to Newcastle

I booked this tour for a corporate team building event, and it did not disappoint.
Amy and the "lovely Andrew" were amazing hosts, they made every one feel at ease, relaxed and had us laughing throughout. our group consisted if some local people and other people from across the county, and as a local I was blown away. we went to 5 different eateries, which were all amazing, plenty of food and drink, which was all explained to us, Amy advised us on local landmarks that even us locals didn't know about ! all in all an amazing day, and credit to Amy for setting up such an amazing business.

AMAZING.
Our guide took us to a bunch of restaurants around the city, and learn a little about the history as well. I also got to meet some interesting people on this tour.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone who's going to Newcastle for the first time.

What a lovely afternoon! Amy was the perfect hostess very friendly and chatty! but gave us our own space also to sit and enjoy the food. Some venues changed from the standard ones mentioned as we were not long out of lockdown but all were lovely and we felt very well looked after. A wide variety of delicious food and drink with a bit of local history thrown in and great value for money. Would definitely use Triple A Tours again :)

Hi, we (two adults from Norway) are visiting 3 and 4 July, and was hoping to go on a "walk and food" tour. But I can't find that you have tours on those dates.
Will there be a possibility for a tour?
Best regards
Gerd

Do you cater for vegetarians/pescatarians or would you need to be a meat eater to enjoy this tour?
Written 27 July 2021
We are all meat eaters but when I booked I was asked if there were vegetarians in my party. Our first stop was vegetarian Indian snacks. I think the6 would factor in vegetarians or any allergies as they were very accommodating.
If you book, hope you enjoy it!
