About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- U7905AElindab0 contributionsVery knowledgeable tour guideRob was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He shared interesting tales at each stop. Our only complaint was that we chose the coldest afternoon of the year to do the tour! Highly recommended.Written 3 December 2023
- lynnemF6450UX0 contributionsExcellent tour of NewcastleEventually got round to using a Christmas gift card today and joining Rob on a Red Beard tour. Even with the rain and the cold Rob made this tour, to a born and bred ‘Geordie’, well worth the wait. His knowledge of Newcastle is immense and his delivery makes all of his facts easy to listen to and very entertaining. Thanks Rob for a good day out and will definitely recommend you to others.Written 9 November 2023
- darkinformer0 contributionsAn Excellent and Enjoyable Introduction to NewcastleI cannot rate this tour highly enough. Clear, insightful, full of humour, Rob has clearly researched thoroughly and polished this tour. The route is also designed to be as accessible as possible to avoid hills. Lots of excellent recommendations for food, drink, and activities as well. You'll not be disappointed.Written 28 October 2023
- Road3126560 contributionsFascinating TourReally enjoyable despite an utterly freezing day. Rob (tough lad) seemed oblivious to the cold (maybe it was the beard?) and spoke very interestingly for about 3 hours! What I liked (as I wondered which toes I would have to have removed) was that he didn’t just focus on the ‘big stuff’ like Hadrians Walk or the (new) Castle but wove in niche/off-beat stories too. He clearly loves the city and loves his job, and his enthusiasm warned us and kept hypothermia at bay (only just).Written 10 March 2023

This was one of best presented tours ive ever been on, the tour guide was so entertaining and knowledgeable.
We were on the tour for 2.5 hours and for £10 this was a bargain, the guy is brilliant!
Ive done tours all over the world and he really got tiur imagination going with tales fron the old England 🏴.
Your not going to find a better tour in the north of England.

Rob was a brilliant tour guide and we saw and learned so much - originally expected just a 2hour tour but it ran over a bit but he packed so much into it, the time just flew by, so allow for that when you book?
Rob's knowledge of the city is incredibly detailed but he kept it infomative and fun and held everyone's attention and it was very delivered clearly despite battling against the noise of the weekend daytime party crowds. He also added little extra interesting facts that I'd doubt you'd get with other tours?
The tour itself is around 3kms in total but Rob's designed it in such a way that it would suit most people with a just a moderate level of fitness. Given the topography of Newcastle, some of the older parts have cobbled streets so some areas are a bit uneven but it would still be doable for the majority.
For those with a passion for exploring and if you're into local history and folklore, I'd thoroughly recommend you take this tour.
Thanks so much Rob for making our first visit to the city so memorable - we'll definitely be back as soon as we can and book with you again!

Thank you so much for such a lovely review and recommendation!
Yes, it is always wise to allow a bit of flexibility anytime you book something where the general public are likely to be involved! :D
Newcastle is a wonderful city, full of interesting characters, and I am pleased to hear that you intend to return and enjoy it some more in the future.

We often visit family in Newcastle but never really venture into town. This time we decided we wanted to go into the centre and learn some more about the city and history of Newcastle. This tour was really informative and full of stories of historical people and local legends. We learnt so much and now feel we also have top tips on other places to go in the city centre. Totally recommend this tour if you want to learn more about all the history of Newcastle from Iron Age, Roman, Saxon and modern. Brilliant tour. Thank you Rob.

Thank you for your review and recommendation. I'm glad to have given you ideas for places to visit and check out. The tour is about exploring the past, and if you decide to explore further then be warned, Newcastle can get it's hooks in you! :-D
Since starting the tours, I haven't stopped researching more and more about the city and surrounding area. I hope you have as much fun with it as I do.

We chose to do a city tour knowing the weather would be drizzly and overcast. It was a great choice, turning a grey day into an interesting and fun experience. Rob our red bearded guide was knowledgable and entertaining. But above all he was enthusiastic for his subject He told some good stories to boring the city history alive.

Thank you for leaving me a kind review. The weather can be drizzly and overcast quite often around these parts! I am glad that despite the weather, you still enjoyed the tour. I hope you will come again in the future when other tours are available. Details will be on my social media when they launch.

Rob was easy to find at the prominent meeting place as he was dressed the way he had described and he indeed has a 'red beard'.
He made a point of ensuring the group ( in our case four people ) stayed at a safe distance throughout the tour and reminded us when face coverings were necessary as we entered buildings and arcades.
Rob was very knowledgeable about the history of Newcastle, and beyond, and we thoroughly enjoyed his presentation style as he took us on our two-hour tour.
We would highly recommend this tour.

So the last thing you want to do on a rainy day is a 2 hour walking tour, I love a tour but even I wondered if we were going to look like drowned rats by the end of it but no no no! It was fab!
Did feel bad that it was only me and my partner booked on to this tour but feel like it’s the others who are missing out!!!
Rob is informative, friendly and extremely patient to answer our questions and wait for my photo taking.
Seriously wish him all the best with this and encourage anyone and everyone to book onto a tour...I also think a single travel would feel at ease with Rob.
Hopefully see you again next year 😁

Thank you for writing a review and recommending Red beard Tours! The weather can be an issue in this line of work, but unless there is a severe weather warning tours do go ahead! I'm glad that despite the rain you enjoyed the tour, and hope that you will return in the future when I get other tours up and running. I can't promise the weather will be any better though... ;-)
In the meantime you can follow me on all the usual social media places, such as Facebook and Instagram for details when these launch. :-)

Having six weeks off work now, I’ve been trying to think outside the box to find things to do. I stumbled across @redbeardtours and decided to book up. This was a great decision!

Me and my mam met Rob at monument and spent the next few hours walking around Newcastle being shown and told some really interesting facts and legends! Rob is very knowledgeable and clearly has a passion for what he does. The tour is approx 4km long and is supposed to take between 90-120mins. We ran over our time a little! This tour covers information from Iron Age to present day and even for us locals, told us loads we didn’t know! Things you normally don’t even notice were brought to the forefront. This tour had a couple of small steps but was overall very accessible and if it was a concern, you could definitely speak to Rob and there would be ways around them. He does keep accessibility in mind! I would genuinely encourage people to get involved with @redbeardtours - he has plans to expand his tours in the future to cover even more of his breadth of knowledge. Thanks again Rob!

Thank you for your kind review and recommendation. It was a pleasure to show you and your mum around the city. I am glad you enjoyed it, and I really enjoy it when I can share something with a local that they never knew about.
Thank you also for the fantastic photos that you have shared, and for your recommendations on social media as well. I hope I can take you and your mum on another tour in the future!

We had a great tour yesterday with Rob who was well informed and took time to show us extra bits of local historical information in addition to the standard tour. Highly recommended and ( as ticket holders of Newcastle city guided walks) appreciated the opportunity to take son and daughter in law on birthday treat. Good to see the tour is available as many guided walks are suspended for the year. Rob certainly showed us a different more expansive tour, good luck to Redbeard Tours for the future.

Thank you for your kind review. I am glad you enjoyed the tour as much as I enjoyed showing you around. I am always happy to share additional information and show additional places so long as I don't have later tours booked. It's nice when people share the same passion for the incredible history of the city. I never stop exploring and learning about Newcastle and the surrounding areas, and hope to share these with visitors in the future.

Well worth the money paid for the tour!
Me and my mum had a lovely visit of Newcastle filled with interesting historical informations. We would have lost most of the nice city's buildings if we wouldn'd have had the guide. He was never boring for the 2 hours long tour and he was also very patience waiting for my mum's Google translator to catch up by time to time. I suggest the guided visited even to people who has been to Newcastle in the past, but want to enjoy more deeply the tour by adding an interesting narrative to the nice sight.

Thanks for taking the time to give me a review and recommendation. The tour is just an overview of the city, and I hope to have more tours in the future covering other areas in more detail. Should you visit Newcastle again perhaps you will try one of the new tours when they launch.
Waiting for the translation was no problem at all, I want all of my customers to have the best experience possible and sometimes this means that I need to give a little bit more time. I am happy you both enjoyed your visit to Newcastle!

Rob gave an excellent tour 4th Nov. Friendly & informative - a great tour to learn about local history. Tailor made to avoid steep hills to suit everyone. This is my first time visiting Newcastle & I highly recommend taking this tour to get a rich history of the city’s landmarks! It was great to learn about some spots that we could come back to visit during our stay. 5 stars!

Thank you, Danielle & Kevin, for your review and recommendation. It was a real pleasure to show you around, and even learn some history from yourselves! I'm glad you found out about some interesting places to go back to, and if you didn't manage them all, you will have to come back to Newcastle again!
Oh, and don't forget to bring a bigger coat! ;-)

Hello, I am assuming you mean a baby buggy? If so, it is certainly possible to take them on the tour. I have planned the route to allow for this, and in the few places where there are a couple of steps, I have a short detour around them. Feel free to contact me via my website, email, or by phone if you have any other questions as I don't get notified when questions are left here on Tripadvisor, and don't want to miss it if you have further questions.

Hello Sue, well behaved dogs are allowed on all parts of the tour, with the exception of the Grainger Market. Someone will have to remain outside the market with the dog during that part of the tour.
