No refund despite not being able to get to Newcastle due to Storm Eowyn
Flight from Belfast to Newcastle cancelled due to Storm Éowyn (Highest winds 114 mph) and no refund, so lost all of payment for three family members. Come on! If we could have got there, we would have gone on the tour and no doubt enjoyed it greatly. Coming back to redo the visit in March but probably won’t bother next time. Sour taste in mouth.

    Interesting and informative
Had a very interesting and informative tour with Fran. Initially the tour was delayed due to the terrible weather conditions but Fran’s great communication made everyone aware of this delay. I had another event on at 1:30pm which Fran was kind enough to slightly alter the route the opposite way around to ensure I still made it on time. The tour was very interesting with a lot of cool stories about local residents and famous Geordies over the years. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting for the day! Thanks Fran :)

    A wonderful concert.
We enjoyed a wonderful concert featuring the Buxtenhude Youth Symphony Orchestra from Hamburg. They are a very talented orchestra and the venue at St Godric’s Church , Durham was perfect. High recommended

My husband and I did the tour of Durham: Myths and Legends. Despite horrendous rainy weather we both loved the tour. Our guide Fran, was knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming.

    Highly recommended
We were a family of 3 with one having limited mobility. We went on a private tour to Bamburgh Castle and Linisfarne in a taxi. Everything was very well organised and every allowance made for one of our party having difficulty walking far. Both driver and guide, Katy Maddison, were very helpful and made for a very enjoyable day.

    Amazing Tour!
Terrific tour. Went to 4 classic Newcastle pubs- each unique and interesting. Visiting Strawberry Pub was definitely a highlight given its connection to the football team. Katy was an amazing guide who was not only friendly and engaging, but extremely knowledgeable about historical/cultural aspects of Newcastle. Definitely more than just a pub crawl- highly recommended!

    Alnwick Castle Tour
An absolutely delightful journey to Alnwick Castle. Our cruise ship docked at Newcastle and our tour guide was there waiting on as we left the ship. Anna was incredibly knowledgeable. She brought so much local knowledge to our tour. Highly recommend Anna! Newcastle Tour Company was excellent to book with and were prompt with their communication with me. Great experience!

    Well worth doing
It was a great way to learn a bit about the history and culture of Newcastle, whilst having a more than amble lunch. Anna was a knowledgeable and entertaining tour guide.

Great custom tour. Expertise and hustle.
I always look to a local travel agency to book tours rather than US tour travel companies that rarely have a clue...and want to cram you into pre-packaged group arrangements. Shout out to Anna who listened to what I wanted and pulled it all together! Travelled up from London on the train and was met at the station for a great 4 hour personal tour of Hadrian's wall with Michael Young where we talked Roman history and had a good natured argument about American and British politics. On the train ride I discoved I forgot my driver's license so that car rental plan went out the window. She scrambled and found me a driver to get me to Bamburgh castle, and then the following day to the Holy Island. She met me there for an entertaining 3 hour walking tour. Turns out it was June 6th the very day the Vikings raided the monostery 1231 years ago. I can't say she arranaged that, but I giving her credit anyway 5+ stars Scott K

Custom tour for 12 from Newcastle on Tyne
The custom tour for 12 from the cruise port in Newcastle to Lindisfarne and along the coast was fantastic. Anna, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable about the area and was one of the best guides I have ever experienced in my many years of travel. The van was first class and the driver, Andrew, was excellent. Communication when booking was excellent. I highly recommend this tour company based on my experience with them

Hadrian's Wall - History Nerds Delight
TL;DR - Money well spent, you won't regret it. Book now. I literally built my two week trip to the UK around seeing Hadrian's Wall and Vindolanda, so if this wasn't great the trip was going to have a big hole in the middle. Spoiler alert, it was the center piece of one of the best days of my life. Side note - if you are budget traveling, you can do the Wall on foot, by bike, or car and spend almost nothing except the reasonable ÂŁ12.50 admission at Vindolanda, but you'll really be missing out. Booking was super easy and they gave me contact info for my guide about a month out and we emailed back and forth in the preceding days to tighten up the details. I highly recommend staying right in downtown Newcastle so you can catch some more sights and check out the wild Newcastle night life - I was there on a Friday and you have to see the parade of almost criminally underdressed Geordies down Quayside and downtown (apparently they're famous for it). On that note we should talk about weather, it's still England so be prepared for cooler and damper than the US, but really warm when you get inside places. So layers, layers layers. You'll be outside a lot, so dress for hiking and wear appropriate shoes. I was there end of April and there was frost in the low spots overnight. However, Jupiter smiled on my trip and I got mostly sun, but Fran and Chris (who you'll meet in a bit) assured me that was not the norm. Ok. So let's get to the actual tour. At a very civilized 9am met Fran literally coming though the door of my hotel as I was going out to see 10 minutes to 9 (I'm an "if you're not early you're late kind of guy). You know it's her because she has tour logo'd jacket. We went back out and met Chris at our posh ride. I don't know if they have other guides and drivers, and I would guess they are great too, but if you can request Fran and Chris definitely do it. I could go on and on (as you may have figured out) about Fran, but she might read this and I don't want to embarrass her. They are some people whose mere presence just makes you happy. Her smile and laugh cut right through the chill and fill you with warmth. And she is going to give you an ocean of knowledge. I talk for a living and was impressed how she was able to provide a constant narrative as we went along, especially since I constantly interrupted her flow. This was not some rote presentation, but a great engaged dialogue. If you want to match passion to passion, Fran is your girl. As for the tour itself, you start out in Newcastle and highlight the remnants of the wall that are just right in the middle of town. Gradually we made our way into the country and saw bigger stretches of the stones in wilder country. The North in the spring is absolutely breathtaking. But those are just the amuse bouche, the feast is Vindolanda. Ruins, reconstructions, a museum that blew the British Museums Legion exhibit out of the water, and working dig site - all at the same time. If you are a history or archeology person, this is your Shangri-la. Fran will take you through the ruins and give you context for all the ruins. And I know it's the real scoop because we got almost an echo of the narration from a school group that happened to be there at the same time. Sadly the kids weren't as interested as I was. There was an active dig going on right there. You should Google about how they do it with volunteers and all the details. It's quite wonderful. After the background, Fran gets to take a well deserved break, and you get a while to wander about and check out the museum and grounds. As I said, the museum has the best artifacts in an abundance that is unparalleled. Special call out to the coins and, believe it or not, shoes. Reluctantly you will have to head back to Newcastle, but Fran gave some recommendations for the rest of the day - you can pop by the Great Northern Museum: Hancock and check out the stone that settle the debate over whether the wall was really build during Hadrian's reign. If you're not as tired from the day as you are reading this review, then check out the famed Newcastle nightlife. I learned there are just as many kinds of UK English as there are American English. I also learned about stags and hens. Everybody was super nice and treated this solo Yank (do they even say that anymore?) like we were old mates. I'm sure the number of people around the world for whom this is a life highlight wouldn't fill St. James Park stadium - especially since there wouldn't be an empty seat anyway - but if that is you, start planning now.

    Amazing tour!
Josh was an amazing guide! He was so easy to listen to, and answered all questions we came up with. He was friendly, fun, and has amazing knowledge! From all of the city tours that we joined so far, this one was by far the best! Not a single moment of drifting off with our thoughts, as he managed to keep us constantly entertained and interest in places and their stories. Poor future guides of ours - Josh made their job very difficult now.

Did this with my 19 year old after bringing him over for his 2nd year at uni. It was a lovely warm evening so perfect for walking around lots of different locations hearing interesting stories from our knowledgeable and friendly guide. Like all good walking tours, I feel as though I understand the city and its history just a little more and we explored areas I wouldn't necessitate found, or noticed details I would have just walked past. Highly recommended.

Our guide, Amanda, was excellent She was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We really enjoyed the tour despite the rain and the cold. It’s a pity that we were the only people who showed up for the tour as it was worth braving the weather. We were impressed with how Amanda searched around for the missing bookings and contacted the office to check for any messages. Well done Amanda! We would definitely take another tour.

Had a really great tour with our guides Fran and Josh. Very knowledgeable and great fun. I booked the tour for 4 of us on a long weekend trip to Newcastle. So many stories to tell and facts to give us. It turned out our tour was a private one as it was only us who had booked. I would highly recommend this tour. Even the rain and wind couldn’t dampen our spirits. We all came away thinking what a good value walking tour thus was.

We went on a tour with Fran, and she was amazing!

We had some rain, but she was a trooper and kept us all as dry as she could and was extremely fun to be around.

The stories she told were so interesting, was definitely a great tour, even for someone who has lived here for years!

Would definitely recommend next time you want something different, spooky and fun!

This was an excellent and engaging tour about the dark side of Newcastle, full of villains ands ghouls. It is surprising what history is beneath your feet without even noticing. The city is full of nooks and crannies with tales of murder and mystery and Anna certainly knows all about them. She is a charismatic story teller and certainly knows her facts. Her affable approach to guiding you through the city is both fun and educational, you definitely come away wanting to learn more, 90 mins is not enough and you almost certainly want to know more when it ends.

This is definitely a tour to do if you are staying in the city overnight, or a local wanting to learn about the cities past.

Best to wear comfy shoes.

I had such a great time on this tour. I live in Newcastle and I learnt so many interesting tales about the city and loads of hidden gems. There wasn't anything I knew already. Was so surprised by many of the stories!

Our tour guide was Josh. He was brilliant and so knowledgeable. You could tell Josh was really passionate about history and the city. An excellent tour guide!

I have since been raving about this tour and recommending it to so many people!

My partner and I really enjoyed being tourists in our own city. Josh, our guide, was incredibly punny which I LOVE so, thank you Josh! He was very knowledgeable and super enthusiastic. We did the tour on Friday and by writing this 2 days later I can confidently say I have told everyone I know about this tour and how good it is. Being local I did know some of the stories but it was so great hearing someone else talk about them! Time absolutely flew over and I was smiling the whole time. What I will say about the tour is that, wear comfortable shoes and if your knees aren't great take your time going down on the stairs towards the end - there's a LOT of them.
