Great insight into the city of Birmingham
Michael helped us to see so much more in the architecture and history of the buildings of the city than we could ever see on our own.

      Great - go for it!
I loved the tour, so informative, such a great overview (I didn't have much time) and still some good recommendations to see additional art, where to have lunch etc. Thank you, Jonathan. PS The only bit you could improve is to tell participants when booking (not when confirming on the day!) that they should bring their headphones ;-)

A fantastic tour lead by a great guide.
We learned a lot and Jonathan covered history, art, politics and of course, Peaky Blinders. His passion for street art and Birmingham really came through. The tour was a fantastic way to learn more about the city, we really enjoyed it.

      An informative and fascinating walk!
A very knowledgeable guide who explained the architectural history behind some of Birmingham’s iconic buildings very well. Covered the city’s industrial past too. A good two hours exploring and learning, felt like money well spent!

Beautiful sites and passionate tour guide (Michael)
Michael was so enthusiastic and passionate, which really rubbed off on me. He was extremely knowledgeable and easy to understand and showed us some beautiful things I would never have stopped to appreciate if I hadn’t been on the tour. It was so nice to receive a tour book afterwards. I would definitely return to do a different tour.

Excellent walking tour with Jonathan. Great to learn more about my city. I had no idea about Brum’s street art! Jonathan is such an informative and enthusiastic guide and a great communicator. Can’t wait to join another tour. Thank you!

      Great walking tour!
We had the best time on the walking tour of Digbeth's street art - so informative and interesting. Jonathan was a great guide! great commentary, easy to hear and could take your own pace (within reason!)

A greaf alternative art tour of colourful Digbeth in Birmingham
Another excellent walking tour of Birmingham’s Digbeth by Jonathan Berg of Positively Birmingham including views of the BBC's new Birmingham HQ at the Typhoo Tea Factory. Wecalso saw some fantastic examples of Birmingham’s great graffiti art by artists such as Anatomix, Lucy McLoughlin and others too numerous to mention! I can safely say it was the MOST colourful walking tour of Birmingham I have ever been on. The tour was 4 kilometres long and took just over two hours and I can heartily recommend it. We met at the Birmingham Bullring bull and then walked past Nelson's statue (one of the oldest in the country) and Lorenzo Quinn's Hand outside The Church of St Martin's to remember those that perished in the Birmingham Blitz. A fantastic two hour tour of Digbeth. I will share some of the most colourful photos from the tour

An excellent walk with so much information
An excellent morning - just two of us because others had cancelled as it was too cold. Jonathan is so knowledgeable about the art and artists and we were able to chat as we were such a small group. Very considerately, he took us to see the Burne Jones window inside the cathedral to warm up a bit and then the spécial exhibition inside a new office block on Colmore Row. We can really recommend this tour and will be back for more before too long. Thank you Jonathan. The tour is complemented by the book, Birmingham’s Public art that I bought just before Christmas.

Great free Birmingham walking tours with Positively Birmingham
I went on the free Positively Birmingham walking tour on a sunny Saturday morning and we had a fantastically informative time exploring the history and heritage of the City of Birmingham Jonathan Berg who leads the Positively Birmingham tours was a charming and informative host who was full of information about this fine city with lots of industrial heritage as it was at the centre of the Industrial Revolution 250 years ago with the men of the Lunar Society creating the modern world with Boulton and Watt's steam engines

Highly recommended - great insight and very informative on Birmingham's history, development and current status
A really insightful, informed and entertaining two hour walking tour by Jonathan. We gained a lot of knowledge about the city and found the pace to be perfect and the places and descriptions really interesting. The headsets provided made it easy to follow the commentary. Highly recommended and thank you Jonathan!

One of the coolest things we have ever done on a vacation!
We booked a private tour with Jonathan (2 people) when visiting Birmingham in December 2023 (From the US). It was a completely fantastic experience as Jonathan is knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about the city of Birmingham. He provided listening devices that allowed us to walk and talk and hear all the great things about the City of Birmingham. He tailored a walk that shared the importance of the canals and Jewelry Quarter as well as showing numerous historical buildings and Birmingham's public art. We also received 2 of his books that have been wonderful memoirs of our walk and are very informative with wonderful pictures. The next time we are in Birmingham (and there will be a next time), we will book another tour! Simply one of the coolest and unique experiences we have ever encountered on a vacation!

      Fun, informative walking tour
I went on the Digbeth/ Pubic and Street Art/ Peaky Blinders walking tour last week with some friends from Germany. Jonathan is super knowledgeable about history and modern contexts of the various elements and really bought everything to life with great humour and fun! Having the headphones to be able to hear him even with some distance separation and/ or in crowded places was a great touch though the equipment range I’d say might be about 100 yards. I’d definitely recommend the tour- my friends and I had a great time- but please note that the pace is quite quick with quite a lot of ground covered and info to absorb in 2 hours- I usually walk minimum 10000 steps per day for context. I’m looking forward to getting Jonathan’s recently released book ‘Birmingham Public Art’ to learn more- it looks great!

Fascinating tour. Expertly and interestingly led by Jonathan. Probably more street art focussed than Peaky Blinders but that suited me personally. Highly recommend

Excellent, very interesting and enlightening tour. We have been in Birmingham a lot of times but never really known the in depth evolution of this great city from its industry to its beautiful canals until we joined this tour. Our tour leader Professor Jonathan Berg, a local, has been in Birmingham most of his adult life thus we were able to see the history of Birmingham through his personal experiences and observations. His delivery of the sequences of Central Birmingham's development to date was clear and he kept our interest throughout the tour which was enhanced by a sip of hot tody (a local mixture of whisky, honey and lemon) , a must taste in this tour. Overall, its a great way of exploring the many sides of Birmingham City.

Thanks for your feedback - yes, Jonathan is one of our amazing tour guides, all of who aim to give a memorable time on a Positively Birmingham walk. The hot toddy was a bit of a 'special' for your tour but it certainly went down well. It is a hot drink that is local to the UK but really it's home is north of the border where it is especially taken on New Year's Eve. Our Elkington hot toddy ladle is a great item that helps demonstrate this traditional tipple. Do come again when you next want to explore the city - our four tours are all detailed on the Positively Birmingham website where you can also puchase tickets and of course other tour items such as the ACM Positively Birmingham whistles.

Despite growing up in this city, today I encountered its history and ethos for the first time. I learned how Birmingham got here, how it grew and thrived and the huge contribution it has made to the world as the mover and shaker of the Industrial Revolution.

The tour was well planned and organised. The guides, Jonathan and Maria, were extremely knowledgeable and recounted the fascinating history of the city while keeping us entertained with the type of detail that makes it come alive.

The sound system allows participants to hear everything with perfect clarity and allows for a completely covid-safe tour because of the social distancing it encourages.

I did the Sunday tour and will be doing the Saturday tour soon. If you are visiting and interested in Birmingham as a city, you will not do better than these walking tours. And if you live here, and know as little as I did, this is the perfect cure.

Thanks so much - our tours are meant equally for local people as well as visitors. As Birmingham citizens we need to take pride in our city - the one you can see today as you walk the streets and the often hidden past of innovation and enterprise that has been so formative in making the place what it is today. Our Sunday tour in particular really tries to get behind the 'lip gloss' of the city and understand the place. Do look on the Positively Birmingham walking tour website and book your tickets.

Jonathan Berg made my first visit to Birmingham one to remember, leading us through crowded squares, on the tram, along canals. His deep knowledge of history and obvious love of his adopted city shone through. The ingenious audio system meant that his infectious enthusiasm never faltered and whether at the front or back you heard every word he said. I particularly enjoyed seeing the Burne-Jones stained glass windows and visiting the stunning new library building. Thank you Jonathan.

A pleasure to have you along on a busy Saturday private tour of the city. Yes, adding in the tram ride is a new thing and people really seem to enjoy it. We must get the tram drivers to be able to calculate 14 x £1-50 a bit faster though! Next time you are in the city do come on one of our public tours - which start from the Library of Birmingham or the Museum and Art Gallery. Even though i lived in Birmingham (many years ago. . . ) I thought i knew it, but it was a wonderful surprise to discovers a whole lot of 'new' places in the city. And it could not have been done in a better way than having Jonathan guide us. He is clearly passionate about Birmingham and has a wealth of knowledge that he shared with us. Even though it was a bit chilly, it did not matter because he got us so involved in the history of the city's architecture and main characters that helped shape it to its present form. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to discover Birmingham. . . I would do it again!!!!

We all thoroughly enjoyed Jonathan’s walking tour of Birmingham. He took us on a journey through the city’s canals and back streets which brought its history to life. He is obviously passionate about Birmingham and this shone through.

The children in the group were kept engaged by Jonathan involving them in his tour and the structure of the tour was fast paced with plenty of rest stops.

We would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn more about Birmingham’s past from an amusing and extremely knowledgeable local!

Hi Lisa and Family - It was great to have you along as part of your multi-city 'staycation'. We are getting people on tour who never expected to be discovering so much about their own country - with visitors from London coming up specially to do our Saturday and Sunday public tours. Birmingham has an amazing story to tell. Look out for the book: 'Invention & Design: Elkington of Birmingham' which will be a fun and informative book out for Chistmas . See more on the Positively Birmingham walking tour website.

Born and brought up in Birmingham, I left the city 40 years ago. This was a very enlightening tour and left a wonderful impression of a city I perhaps never really knew or understood.
Jonathan is an extremely interesting guide, who is clearly passionate about his adopted city. His historical and cultural knowledge is phenomenal and he delivers it in an exceptionally engaging manner.
It is good value, especially when you realise so much of the fee is donated to a very worthwhile charity.
We intend to take another of Jonathan's tours next time we visit Birmingham, which will now be much sooner than later.
    Exceptional - Highly recommended

Thanks so much for taking the time to feedback. Yes, Jonathan does enjoy showing people around this city and his knowledge and somewhat dry sense of humour seem to be enjoyed by all. Our walking tours aim to be fun, educational and memorable - recent reviews suggest we are ticking those boxes! We will be taking our tours forward into the autumn with a brand new tour of the University of Birmingham campus starting in September - a very special tour for Jonathan as he came to the city to do a PhD at the Uni and ended up as an honorary professor there. You can book onto all our tours on the Positively Birmingham walking tour website.

Birmingham is my home city but I learned so much on this tour... I really enjoyed setting foot on that bit of 'secret canal' linking to the Jewellery Quarter, thank you for opening my eyes to that, and to many of the public artworks. It's great to understand the significance and history of buildings and landmarks I see all the time. What a great city we live in!

Having grown up in Birmingham, I didn't expect to learn much on this walking tour - but boy was I wrong! The tour guide, Jonathon, was so friendly, engaging, and welcoming, and he gave a tour filled with interesting facts, jokes, and even a few original artefacts thrown it. It took me down routes of the city I hadn't been too before (or even known existed), and I learnt so much about my home city. It was just the right mix of historical and geographical facts, as well as lots of jokes to keep it light hearted. It was such an enjoyable experience, great value, and I owe a big thank you to Jonathon and Maria for educating me and help me fall in love with my hometown all over again!
A total must-do for any tourist in Birmingham, or any local who wants to learn more about the origins of the city!

Visiting Birmingham on the weekend for the Strictly tour, we decided to take this tour to fill in a couple of hours and it turned out to be much better than we were expecting. Jonathon was very knowledgable about the history of the area despite not being a “Brummie” himself, and Maria was a charming companion. We will definitely try one the other tours if we are in Birmingham again. Many thanks
