About
Do you want to find something fun to do in Birmingham? How about a Private Kayak Tour for just you and those you invite? Read on for more information about this incredible way to visit Birmingham. See Birmingham’s canals as they were intended with a kayak tour through the heart of the city. This private Kayak Tour takes you into the heart of Britain’s canal system, starting along the route of James Brindley’s first canal into Birmingham that resulted in the industrial revolution booming! You’ll discover Birmingham’s hidden heritage and have plenty of opportunities to see its landmarks from a different angle. Birmingham certainly has more canals than Venice, but ours are quieter! Even though we’ll be heading towards the International Convention Centre, The Cube, The Mailbox and the heart of Britain’s canal system, Gas Street Basin, we’ll still be able find quieter areas along our blue highway.

Learned a lot even as a local!
Had a lovely time on this tour. Despite being a local, there was still lots of interesting facts shared that I didn't know and I loved the Birmingham bingo aspect. Would highly recommend! 😊

      Very Informative and Accessible
A very interesting tour through Brindley Place and the surrounding areas. The guides were very informative and I appreciated the tour being conducted through a headset for ease of listening. Guest participation was fun, and the bingo game was implemented very well.

      Very Poor
Very poor visitor centre. They should of made part of it like it was used for, eg, a stable, lamplighter yard, rock breaking etc. they are more bothered about promoting the local area today than the history and past usage of the building. Good job it was free!

So interesting - a glimpse into Birmingham’s Victorian eta
We visited for the free Workers of the Roundhouse tour. Chris was our guide for the 45 minutes tour. Really interesting and engaging and nice to finish with a drink and a bite at the Distillery pub next door.

Fun time to spend an afternoon on the Birmingham canals..
Opted for the 'Paddle, Pizza & Pint' ... Great fun, all very well organised with helpful and knowledgeable staff helping you along. Our session was ably directed by Hannah, who paddles alongside the group and imparts her knowledge of the buildings and surroundings that you pass en route. The 'paddling' for this particular option, lasted approx. 60 minutes. Thereafter, you retire to the onsite, Distillery pub, for your pizza and a pint. The pizza is freshly cooked and very good, and there is a reasonable selection of different choices. All in all, a great way to discover a little of the history of the Birmingham canals, and spend a few hours afterwards chatting over a pizza and a pint. Good value and highly recommended.

Great taster kayaking session for a great price. Got to have a go (refresh skills learnt long ago and long forgotten) whilst doing a small loop of the area. Made me want to do more.

      Something a bit different
What a great way to spend a morning . This kayak tour began at 10:30 with a safety and equipment briefing after which we had a nice leisurely paddle around 4 of the many canals. I was very surprised at how pretty it was in places . Our guide Keith regularly stopped to give us historical facts . We finished at 12:30 and followed this up with lunch next door ( 20% discount) .

Great day at The Roundhouse & Coffin Factory
We thoroughly enjoyed our Roundhouse & Coffin Factory tour yesterday. Chris, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable & appeared to enjoy the tour as much as we did. He knew endless facts and made the tour very personal with stories of the employees. Highly recommend this tour. Thanks Chris for a great day out!

      Industrial heritage
I've just had a great day out with friends on a tour of The Roundhouse and Coffin Works for which I will also give 5 stars. Our volunteer guide Chris, was so knowledgeable about Birmingham and its industrial history. He explained what the building was used for and how it fitted into the canals that surround the area. There were some interesting and informative exhibits too. All in all, an excellent tour, thank you!

Great tour in the Roundhouse by Jeff
We live in Birmingham and today we were walking by the canals when we saw people kayaking near The Distillery. We loved the idea so we went to find out more about it... We entered and arrived to The Roundhouse asking for information when a member of staff told us that a 45 minutes FREE TOUR would start in five minutes. We really enjoyed the tour and our guide Jeff. A friendly man who is passionate about this place and its history. He told us really interesting facts, such as who built the place, or the main jobs at that time. Something to highlight is that it is at the original place! If you are visiting the city it is a nice stop to know more about Birmingham accompanied by a walk through the canals. And if you live in Birmingham and never have been there, it's really worth it and the whole staff would appreciate your visit! Thank you so much Jeff for your time and your lovely tour! You are a legend 🙂👍 Ps: The Spanish couple

Such a great place and staff.
We recently visited the Roundhouse in Birmingham, and it was simply amazing! Jeff, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the city and its history. He went above and beyond, sharing fascinating insights and even personal stories. After the tour, we had a chance to chat with Jeff for a while, and he was a truly captivating and engaging person. We want to give a big "olé" to Jeff and the team for their efforts in restoring the building and making Birmingham an incredibly interesting city. Keep up the fantastic work!

We all know Birmingham has LOTS of canals but until you actually take a tour, of even a small part of the waterways, you cannot imagine the rich history associated with the city's past.
The tour was relaxing, informative and a real eye-opener. I'm planning to do it again next year with even more friends.

Fantastic experience kayaking through some of the city canal network. Would like to have gone further into the city itself but it was a great tour and Lilly was the perfect leader.

Very informative of the industrial history of the area, the guides were very knowledgeable. You get to see a great mix of the old and new birmingham. The trip is well organised, a thorough briefing is given at the start and waterproof clothing offered if needed. Don't miss it, the whole area just oozes history.

Brilliant guided tour, completely suitable for a complete beginner and the guide/instructor put everyone at ease. Lots of interesting background to the history of the canals and the birmingham area. We will definitely be booking one of the other tours!

We joined the See the City differently tour on a VERY raining Saturday morning, but the rain didi not dampen the enthusiasm of the the guides and the other members of the groups. We had a great time. The event was well organised and completely safe. i would definitely recommend the trip.

Great couple of hours on the cut. Father’s Day present - he loved it! It was chucking it down but despite the rain we had a laugh, met nice people and welcomed a beer to ‘warm up’ once out the water.
    Thanks RoundHouse!

We went on the paddle, pizza and pint tour for an early birthday present for my husband. It was a really fun experience with plenty of guidance from Lilly and fun facts about the canal history of Birmingham. Its a great way to see Birmingham. The pizza at The Distillery was delicious as well - a great way to end the visit

Had the best 1.5 hours on the Bustling Birmingham kayaking tour. Our guide was brilliant, really helpful with technique, funny, with lots of anecdotes and knowledge about the city. Excellent value for money, we want to come back to do the Green sights tour!

We did the paddle, pizza and pint experience, it was brilliant!

Lily was an excellent tour guide. She gave helpful instructions and incredibly helpful tips before we started to feel confident in our kayaks and shared lots of interesting historical facts about the canals on the way.

It was a great way to get a feel for doing a longer experience - we were on the water for 90 minutes and it was a really gentle tour.

Lily was so friendly and fun but clearly focussed on safety at all times too, she was fantastic.

    Some helpful tips:

-The roundhouse had a selection of waterproof trousers to borrow - would recommend making use of them!
-You can take a bottle of water in your kayak with you

The distillery next door was great - delicious pizza and friendly staff.

    A brilliant unique afternoon out!
