Outstanding personal driver for our Mom's bucket list trip to Ireland
My two sisters and I created a curated bucket list trip to Ireland for our mother. Our fantastic St. Paul, MN tour company, Celtic Journeys, arranged for our driver through McComb's. Our driver Dessie was an incredibly capable and wonderful driver. He not only drove us safely around Ireland and Northern Ireland for ten days, but he also shared wonderful suggestions for places to visit, incredible places to eat, and meaningful nuanced personal touches that made our trip a once in a lifetime event for our Mom. We could not have possibly asked for more. We leave Ireland with full hearts and gratitude for this experience, which was made even more special by Dessie. I don't usually take time to make recommendations, but I took time today out of my schedule to recommend McComb's, and specificially our driver Dessie for his remarkable and outstanding service.

Great tour - and here is the itinerary we took
We had a fantastic day with Patrick our tour guide/driver who was very funny and very knowledgable, keeping us all interested during the drive. At the moment, McCombs seems to offer a Game of Thrones coach tour on their website and a separate Giants Causeway one, but they are in fact one and the same. We were told that the bus would depart at 8.30am, but there is more than one bus completing the tour and your bus just leaves when it is full. We left on the first one. Here is how our day went: 8.08: depart Belfast 8.42-9.00: Carrickfergus Castle (you only visit the outside.) 10.00-10.25: Carnlough Harbour (Braavos Canal in GOT) - this stop was way too long. 11.03-11.26: Cushendun Caves (that doubled as the caves where Melisandre gave birth and also where Jamie and Euron fought in the last season) - another 5 minutes here would have been useful as we seemed to rush it. 12.02-12.50: Lunch. (The pub used by the company has a GOT decorated door made from one of the trees felled from the Dark Hedges. Lunch is an optional paid extra. Everyone except us had lunch here - we just weren't hungry from our big breakfast and wanted something light instead. You are welcome to bring your own lunch to eat in the rear pub garden where there was lots of space, but options to buy sandwiches or similar nearby are extremely limited if you have not brought anything along with you - something I regretted.) 13.10-15.00: Giants Causeway. (Now, we are National Trust members, so we pre-booked ourselves onto one of the guided tours. The tour WAS good, but it did take up the majority of time we had here and I'm not sure it was a move I would necessarily recommend to others, even though we only had to kill 10 minutes in the gift shop/informative Visitor Centre waiting for it to start. The Causeway itself was overrun with people hogging the more well known features - the boot, the wishing chair, etc and we wasted an awful lot of time queuing to take 10 second photos, something I hadn't planned for and slightly ruined it.) 15.12-15.17: Dunluce Castle (photo opportunity stop only - also, was CGI-morphed into the Greyjoy household/Pyke Castle.) 15.30-15.50: Bushmills Distillery (an unexpected bonus; not enough time for a tour, but enough time for a shot at the bar or a quick cocktail) - again, another 5 minutes here would have been useful. 16.20-16.50 The Dark Hedges (the road to Kings Landing in GOT. A lot of the trees have fallen since filming, but I still enjoyed the walk here.) Patrick was kind enough to drop people off at a number of different locations in Belfast, so most people didn't have as far to go to get back to their hotel. Leaving early meant we got back a little earlier than planned because we were the first bus to leave, which was handy for us. Overall, a highly recommended day out.

      Great experience
The coach seats are a little close together. It’s not luxury but £35 is such a reasonable price. And the driver! Patrick added so much value. It was a massive win from start to finish

      A grand day out
An excellent day out with a fantastic driver/guide in Karl. He provided lots of interesting information about the sites we visited and GoT. We're not GoT followers but still found it interesting.

Excellent day out with Paul from McCoombs
Excellent day out with Paul our driver who looked after us well. Paul was very knowledgeable. It's a full day out at a reasonable cost. Very comfortable coach and a very nice lunch at a village pub.

      WOW 🤩
Amazing day out for young and old alike. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you won’t want to miss this experience. Shuttle bus to the venue, where there is a fab shop , great cafe facilities and staff are all extremely friendly and happy to help.

      The Driver made the day
Patrick was a delight. We all had a great day much enhanced by the Driver's good humour and very informative commentary. We weren't sure about the trip beforehand as the weather forecast was a bit iffy, but I don't know how we managed it, but the only times it rained were when we were in the coach!

Length of tour perfect - 8/9 hours
Tour was excellent as was the guide. Plenty of information, stories and humorous. Not into game of thrones but didn’t matter as stops still interesting and not too long at any place. Giants causeway a definite must, just amazing, pictures don’t do it justice

      NEVER AGAIN!!!!
During our tour, I witnessed a horrendous accident. This young kid was struck by a falling rock during our cave tours, the tour company did nothing to help and left the poor family behind as everyone else continued the tour. If I could leave a 0 star review I would. I will not be recommending this tour company to anyone nor will I ever be doing this tour again.

My son had medical emergency and company is evil - the tour bus driver was amazing . Only the phone reps suck
The tour bus company is horrid even though pur tour bus driver was amazing.! My son had a medical emergency and we are from another country, so we couldn’t get seen as a new patient / our tour bus driver found us an emergency surgeon but accidentally dropped us off at wrong address. The other McCombs company representatives were horrible). They wouldn’t tell us the correct address - kept threatening to leave my son (who was suffering from serious medical emergency) stranded as my iPhone was dying in a foreign country while my child was suffering. Grateful that the doctors in Northern Ireland are nicer than this company - never travel with McCombs Travel - they don’t care about your children or mine

      Surprisingly great day trip.
Karl the tour guide and driver was phenomenal. Funny, knowledgeable, open to questions and a great driver. It’s gorgeous scenery. I would have liked a little more time at some of the stops but it’s a very well organized full day.

We booked on this trip with 48 hr to go as with a further lockdown being threatened we were unsure we would get away. Anyway it did, and trip itself was nice and the driver was very friendly and some lovely villages seen along the way.

I have only given 3 stars as we were given information on the wearing of masks prior to the trip, as a NHS key worker thought great. As the last couple of our party of 13 boarded the small mini-bus and asked if they needed to wear mask, the driver said it is at your discretion.

Myself and my husband were only 2 out of 13 to wear the mask - normally I would have said something but I was unsure how this would have gone down, so Im afraid to say I said nothing.

Despite everything happening in March of 2020, this was one of the best day tours I’ve taken! I was originally on another all-Ireland tour but sadly it was cancelled before I got to make it up to Northern Ireland and the Giants Causeway. I was pleasantly surprised that these tours were still running and it was absolutely worth it! Derek was wonderfully insightful and funny and very understanding of people’s concerns about this uncertain time, even combining both the Giants Causeway and the Game of Thrones tours, considering that many of the visiting areas were closed. Derek, you deserve a well earned break, but I hope you continue running these tours in the future!

Thank you for an amazing tour to the Giants Causeway! Constant engagement and amazing commentary from Paul kept the small mini coach thoroughly entertained and laughing at his anecdotes.
I would highly recommend this tour, as it is great value for money and the constant breaks and stops helped break up the journey. The opportunity to keep refreshed, with food and comfort breaks were appreciated and the opportunity to have lunch at a lovely pub (if needed) perfect!
Thank you for a memorable day.

Booked this trip as it came recommended and it surely did not disappoint! Very engaging and also uniquely interesting stops. The journey was well paced and commentary throughout from our driver Derek was outstanding. He really pulled the group together and made the journey between stops entertaining with good insights and interesting facts and the occasional bad joke, however all in all a very good trip and would definitely recommend to anyone!

Myself and my friend really enjoyed the Giant's Causeway Day Trip from Belfast. We were blessed with the weather on the day, the sun was shining and it was beautiful out. The itinerary differed slightly as some of the spots were still closed off to visitors due to Covid-19 restrictions, but the company made up for it would other stop off points which were amazing. I would definitely recommend this Day Trip and Patrick our driver/guide kept everyone on the coach amused with his 'funny' jokes throughout the day :)

A big thank you to McCombs travel and a shout out to patrick our driver and guild. I highly recommend this company very professional, but patrick was the star of the day with his vast knowledge and witty jokes.

He really made the tour, i came to ireland for 4 days after recently being made redundant because of Covid 19 and i tell you i completely forgot i had lost my job i was loving every bit of this tour and i do believe McCombs and patrick had a big part to play.

Such a fun filled day in the sun travling all over the costal roads of beautiful northern ireland Also the coach was spotless, hand sanitizer provied and everyone wore a mask wirhout complaints. It was a shame the carrick-a- rede rope bridge was closed because of covid 19 but still the day was fun and the game of thrones locations are awesome if you are a fan, because patrick is a big fan... very passionate driver and guild. McCombs should be proud to have a driver / guild like that.

Ps... i hope you get that retirement home in ( the one with 7 houses built into the rocks, which i cant remember the name of, port bracken? ) ...

    Thanks

I had a great time during my trip! As it is off season, we travelled in a smaller very comfortable van with only about 8 people. The day was well-paced and I had a great lunch at Fullerton Arms!
We had enough time on the bridge and to explore the Giant’s Causeway. Overall, it was easy to book and our driver was waiting promptly at the pickup spot. Although this is not a GOT tour, I learned quite a bit and saw some relevant places.
I was very glad that I went on this trip outside the busy season as I heard it can get very crowded during the summer which is something to consider. Fully recommend Mccombs!

Paul gave us such an informative tour today and we couldn’t have asked for a better (or funnier) coach/tour guide!

The itinerary implied that we would begin our trip at the Giant’s Causeway but that actually happened towards the end of the tour instead but we appreciated the build up to the visit. It also helped having access to toilets every 15-30 minutes.

Paul was great at sharing interesting historical facts about Northern Ireland and including Game of Throne references here and there too.

All in all, we highly recommend everyone to take this trip especially if the they’re only visiting for a few days like we are and want to visit as many sights as possible. Thanks again Paul and McCombs!

This was my second time being on a tour with this company; this time I brought a friend.
Our driver, Stephen, was also the driver on the bus all those years ago.
I read comments before booking the tour, although I had no doubts we would have a good time.
Get on this tour if you are prepared to hear from a local, someone who will give facts about life in Northern Ireland - not someone who got info from a book or the internet.
I agree with McCombs management: speaking over the driver is an absolute lack of respect to the other passengers who are enjoying being on the bus hearing the driver.
Stephen is brillant, positive, respectful, funny, strict but fair; careful and put people at ease.
Drivers are looking after a group of 60 people and it is a legal requirement for them to keep everyone together and on time to return safely to the City.
Some of the locations were still close to not fault of McCombs or even their control. You have to remember that they do not own the places we visit on the tour.
I would however say that McCombs has a responsibility to inform passengers of the amendments on the tour prior to getting on the bus - if they decide not to join after that, it’s their lost.
We were told of the changes prior to departure, still had an amazing time; and my friend was delightful of the value for money this day out was.
Thank you to McCombs for arranging a stop at the Fullerton for lunch

Just back from a great tour of the Giant's Causeway, Rope Bridge, Bushmills and all else possible. Our driver Derek made sure we saw everything possible without seeming rushed. He also provided hilarious entertainment with a series of increasingly dodgy jokes as well as some interesting history and insights into Northern Ireland's past. Highly recommended.
