This was a thoroughly enjoyable and interesting tour given by a very well prepared and knowledgeable guide called Steve. I would have no hesitation in recommending this experience with Steve to visitors and citizens alike. Thank you for the tour and craic! OonaghWritten 10 February 2025
- HedgesCC0 contributionsAn enjoyable walk! Our guide Steve is extremely knowledgeable. He is above all, an excellent guide. Steve breathed and infused history and life into Belfast city during our walking tour. He gave everyone a deep appreciation of Belfast - its history, struggle, tensions and its more kindred moments when communities came together to help one another. Through Steve's narration, the buildings, streets and murals in Belfast became personable, and alive. I'm extremely glad I did this walking tour and would encourage everyone visiting Belfast to consider doing a walking tour with Steve.Written 9 February 2025

- Compass7937070 contributionsKnowledgeable, trustworthy, responsible and charming guideThis is my second time participating in this very informative and highly accessible tour. I have what I'd describe as a passing interest in local history and our tour guide, Mark has made it very engaging on both occasions that I attended. The three hours seem to pass by seemlessly with a comfort break conveniently scheduled for halfway through the tour. I found that we were able to cover considerable ground in our trek and spanned many centuries-worth of local Belfast history. At one point in the tour, one of our group found themselves involved in a heated exchanged with an inebriated local. Mark quickly stepped in and was able to diffuse the situation. I was very impressed with how he handled the situation, and prevented any escalation of the exchange. It was good to know that, as well as being very well-versed in his history, Mark is also able to take full responsibility for the oft-unaccounted, miscellaneous eventualities that are part and parcel of a city walking tour. He comfortably resumed the tour thereafter. His age and youthful demeanour belies his knowledge and experience. He has a wonderful way with people and I would encourage any and all to participate in one of his tours.Written 19 January 2025
- gillp9770 contributionsNot to be missed tour, walking tour of the troublesThis was a brilliant tour, in the centre of Belfast. James, our guide was brilliant. His knowledge, passion and interest was captivating. To actually see where bombs had been placed, where fatalities had occurred was distressing, but looking around Belfast today it was uplifting to see the good changes and how well the local people have done to survive and move on from the troubles. The earphones worked really well, listening was never a problem. I would 110% recommend this tour, and I would ask for James.Written 13 December 2024

We had a fantastic tour with James. He was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and sensitive, and communicated in a way that was really interesting. We were a small group in terrible weather, and we appreciated that James took the trouble to adapt to the circumstances, including taking shelter in a coffee shop! We would highly recommend James as a tour guide, and would also really recommend taking the time to learn about the recent history of Belfast during any trip to the city.

We had Steve on our tour this morning. Of the number of tours we have done since we started our travels, Steve was the best guide. His knowledge of history and his impartial discussion of the events, painted a picture for us which we were looking for in our quest to discover more about Ireland. This is our first trip to Ireland and our only knowledge of its history was through the lens of Australian television since the 70s. We were very much looking for a view consistent with our belief that there was more at play than just, religion.
Even though we had rain, we were at all times looked after by Steve‘s knowledge of places where we could stand in comfort. Being on a mobility scooter the highlight for me was that each path he took us, he insured, I had clear access to all of the appropriate crossovers , which made my access so much easier.
I would definitely recommend anyone who wants to know more about the history of Northern Ireland to consider a tour with this group.

Steve did a very good job both at navigating an emotive subject and keeping us warm and dry on an adverse weather day. Would thoroughly recommend the Tour as a way of understanding more about the history and reality of the Troubles and the future direction of travel. A really good half day experience.

Chris was a brilliant tour guide with an in-depth knowledge of the events leading up to the troubles without favouring one side over the other, leaving the individual to form their own opinion. He was very engaging throughout and was able throw in some lighter moments in what was a very dark time in Belfast's recent history.
I would recommend doing this tour at the start of your visit to Belfast as it takes you to interesting parts of the city that you may otherwise miss.

This is a 10-out-of-10 tour. We had a weekend in Belfast and took this tour with friends. Steve was our tour guide. Wow! He was excellent, and kept the tour very engaging. He explained the history in tremendous detail in a way the helped understand the context and background to "The Troubles". Our tour went a little over the advertised duration and was almost 3 hours. We were riveted. Excellent tour, you won't be disappointed. When we booked, the tour was scheduled daily at 10.30am, leaving from the City Hall and ending at Queen's Bridge. So you could buy a Hop-on-Hop-off ticket for the day which has stops close to both locations. You are walking in the city so be sure to take a rain coat and walking shoes.

This tour was a true experience of Belfast. Steve Malone delivered the history of the troubles within Belfast in superb detail.
I would 100% recommend this tour if you’re visiting the city as you’ll gain a true understanding of what’s gone on over hundreds of years.
Thanks again Steve 👏

When looking at options for a tour, we really wanted a solid foundation for understanding Northern Ireland. The History of Terrors truly summarized for us, The Troubles. By walking around to various locations and hearing the history, it really solidified this time period for us.
We visited Belfast via cruise ship, and arranging the tour was extremely easy. We were able to book a private tour the night before and the communication from DC Tours was excellent.
Our guide, Chris, spent time really explaining the history to us and since it was a private tour, we were able to ask as many questions as we wanted. It truly felt like a personal experience.
We look forward to visiting Northern Ireland again, and highly recommend touring with DC Tours.

Hi Melinda, thanks so much for leaving such a detailed and positive review and recommendation for our tour, we are delighted you enjoyed it so much!
Great to hear that you got so much from the tour and that you felt it gave you a better understanding of the Troubles.
We do usually need around a week's notice to arrange a private tour so we were very happy that we were able to arrange the tour for you so quickly on this occasion!
Best wishes, Mark.

Our tour with Steve was the absolute highlight of a wonderful 2 week trip - he did an incredible job of explaining and presenting 1000 years of history while taking us around the beautiful city of Belfast. It was a somber experience, understanding what life in Belfast has been like over the years and throughout the 'troubles' but it was also amazing to gain a more in-depth understanding of the how and the why of the groups involved over the years. I can't recommend Steve as a tour guide more highly, he has a talent for the job and you won't regret booking this tour.

We loved this in depth tour. Steve guided us through history with a combination of personal experience and historical facts in a very professional manner. We also really appreciated that Steve uses mini radios for each guest that have a volume controlled ear piece. This means that every guest can hear every word no matter where they are standing. The pace of the tour was perfect and the knowledge Steve has about this area and its history is outstanding. Highly recommend.

Our guide, James, was incredibly welcoming and personable, taking the time to chat with everyone in our group before the tour began. He made sure to connect his stories to each person, creating a sense of inclusion and engagement throughout the experience. James filled the tour with personal stories from his own life, which made us feel a deep connection to the rich history of Ireland. His sense of humor was a wonderful addition, lightening the mood as we explored the more somber aspects of Belfast's past. This thoughtful balance ensured that the tour was both informative and enjoyable. I highly recommend visiting Belfast and experiencing the city through the eyes of the best tour guide, James!

Hi, we will be in Belfast on Tuesday April, 5th. Can we pay for the tour on the day of the tour, either with the tour guide or at a Irish tour ticket office?
Written 28 March 2022
Hi there. Yes you can pay cash on the day of the tour. However you need to ring in advance t give details of the number in your party and what date you wish to take the tour. You can then arrange to meet the Tour guide in Belfast and pay him/her just before the tour begins. Hope that helps.

Hi all, I plan to visit Belfast in July and I want to join a historical tour to learn more about the Troubles. I read some really good reviews about Dead Centre but for some reason I can't access their website to read about the details of the tour. I presume Dead Centre is still in business as there are reviews as recent as a few days ago? If so, can the staff check if the website is functional? Many thanks.

Hi jmtyu, Thanks for getting in touch, we are indeed still in business, and I've just checked our website and it's up and working. If you try searching for 'DC Tours Belfast' that should normally work. I don't think we are allowed to give direct links on TripAdvisor booking pages unfortunately.

I was wondering how long the tour lasts and how many miles you walk on the tour. Thank you!
Written 27 April 2019
Hi, the tour lasts around 2 hours but you actually don’t walk that far. It’s a slow amble, with lots of stops at important sites (with places to sit). Have a look at the ‘What to expect’ section on here. It’s not a taxing walk at all. In our experience the two hours just flew!
