About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- traigw20250 contributionsInSite Tours - Don't Visit Northern Ireland Without ThemWhat fun we had with Fergal! On our first day we headed north and enjoyed a day full of picturesque views including cliffs, castles, and countryside. Day two we headed out in the opposite direction but it was no less beautiful. What an amazing resource Fergal is. We learned so much about Northern Ireland's history and culture. I wouldn't want anyone to visit Northern Ireland without Fergal's vast knowledge about everything from the monarchy to the best place to stop for lunch. He's a great photographer too. We have so many photos that would not have been possible or not nearly as good if he weren't so kind to take them (and so skilled at doing so). We have such fond memories of our trip and our time with Fergal.Written 7 February 2025
- SurveyNinja0 contributionsHighlight of our trip to IrelandMy mother and I had a tour with Fergal, in March. Prior to booking I did a lot of research. We booked the Highlights of Northern Ireland tour and had it customized to our interests. Before going on the tour my mother thought the price was high. She changed her mind within the first half hour. Fergal was prompt to pick us up and very knowledgeable. My mother had a fall the day before and was not able to do much walking so while I explored the Giants Causeway he took her to "a lovely tea house". It was the highlight of our trip to Ireland, worth every penny.Written 7 April 2024
- allanandlauriem0 contributionsWow X 1000Wow Every bend, every dip or rise in the road brought out a wow as our driver can contest too. Lots of stops for photos and stopped when safe to do so for special photo requests. Well worth the money and lost all track of time with the splendour of the Antrim coastline. Lots of local history told by a local Irishman. We had great weather in February. Avoid the congestion of the busy season and go before April.Written 26 February 2024
- Camper405543374190 contributionsGreat Day TourWe spent a wonderful day with Fergal. Our tour begin in Belfast and then continued to the coast. Fergal was a wealth of knowledge about the history and people of Northern Ireland. I highly recommend him.Written 2 October 2023
- Elizabeth E0 contributionsFabulous Trip up East Coast of IrelandWe hired Fergal to take us on a 1 day trip from Belfast all the way up the coast of North East Ireland. We were more than overwhelmed with the whole trip!! Each stop we took we said “This is the most beautiful place we’ve ever seen!”, but then the next stop came, and sure enough, it was even more beautiful than the last. The history that we learned on the 1 day trip, the unbelievably gorgeous landmarks we were introduced to, the typical friendly Irish that we met along the way…..we really cannot compare it to anything else. Thank you so much, Fergal, for the incredible memories, they will not be forgotten and nor will you!! Liz, Alan, Madigan and Jack EdgeWritten 24 June 2023
- sherf0 contributionsAntrim coastal private tourWe booked a private tour with Fergal of InSite Tours of Ireland for an all day tour of the Irish coastal drive from Belfast. Fergal was a wonderful guide providing plenty of historical insights about Ireland during our wonderful day. He was willing to modify the itinerary and suggest specific areas to see. We started with a short drive thru Belfast just to see the city. We booked a private tour specifically because we had read that the Antrim Coast drive is beautiful and it did not disappoint, even with some cloudy fog at times. It actually enhanced the atmosphere. While our last stop was the Giants Causeway that everyone raves about as a must do we felt it was not the highlight of the trip. It was not a bad stop, however we would have been disappointed if we had done a cruise ship tour that just went straight to the causeway. The large buses cannot maneuver the coastal roads in some parts so a private car is a must to enjoy the coastal scenery. We saw much more spectacular scenery during our coastal drive such as White Park Bay overlook and the many glens along the way. We had lunch at a traditional pub in a small town as well as a stop at an out of the way waterfall not visited by many people. We cannot stress enough how wonderful Fergal is. He knows the off the grid stops and his personality made the day exciting. Book a private tour with him and you will be very very happy.Written 11 September 2022
- Ann H0 contributionsThe best of northern irelandWonderful tour with our guide, Fergal! Drove along the coastal road, the scenery was magnificent! We enjoyed lunch at an Irish pub in a sweet little Irish village. Our tour included a visit to the Giants Causeway, loved hearing about the ancient Irish lore around this geological phenomenon. Take this tour, you will not regret a minute of it!Written 15 August 2022
- millser20 contributionsMost valuable and informative!Fergal provided excellent commentary and his expertise and commitment increased our appreciation of HomePlace. We would absolutely recommend him. This is the second time we have engaged Fergal and we have been more than satisfied each time. The time at HomePlace is well worth the journey.Written 21 April 2022
- Kelly D0 contributionsGreat day exploring the northern coastWhat a fabulous day with Fergal. My husband and I were in Northern Ireland for 4 nights and wanted to do some exploring without the confines and strict agenda of a large tour company and we found the perfect tour guide for the country with InSite Tours and Fergal. He took us all around, to off the beaten path gorgeous locations that only a local would know and even fit in a quick tasting at Bushmills, finishing the day with dinner at a delicious place. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a unique adventure, incredible scenery and fabulous guide.Written 28 February 2020
- bibimiller0 contributionsA wonderful tour of the Giants CausewayAppreciated the personal service and comfortable car. Our driver was kind enough to take photos so we could appear in them! Great afternoon and would recommend if you enjoy going off the beaten path and getting a real “insiders” viewpoint.Written 5 November 2019
- SavvyBek0 contributionsSpectacular in every wayLove love loved my day with Fergal. It was 30 October and a beautiful day. No rain, cold wind yes and treated to the magical splendour of sun kissed fields of green. What a wonderful experience to be shown around by a local with such a wealth of knowledge and experience. Lovely luxury car and always felt in safe hands. I really appreciated that Fergal adjusted the schedule to maximise daylight hours. Instead of spending time indoors for lunch we went for dinner to Marconi’s. Great place and scrumptious food. It’s really special being able to go on roads that the big tour buses can’t. Finished up feeling I’d just spent the day with a good friend. I highly recommend InSite and Fergal. As many others have said - I’d give more stars if I could.Written 1 November 2019
- Batchwest0 contributionsAn Unforgettable DayFrom the first minute we met the final goodbye our day trip with Fergal was magical. Our daughter booked us the tour for our 40th Anniversary. Having never visited Northern Ireland, we wanted to see the real Ireland and not the Tourist Ireland. We are delighted to say that our day was better than we could have hoped for. Fergal was funny, knowledgable, friendly, and made us feel like we had always been friends. We stopped for an amazing lunch at Marconis and were treated like family. I wish I could give a 6 star review instead of just 5. "If only you knew how the lamp of the moon Turns a blue irish bay to a silver lagoon You'd imagine the picture of heaven it would be Where the green glens of Antrim are calling to me" Thank you Fergal, we will always remeber you fondly. Derek and MaryAnnWritten 19 October 2019
- ReligBookFreak0 contributionsMixed ReviewOn May 18, 2019, Fergal sent me the following email: "Hi again Alan, I’m afraid that since we first started communicating that the date has been booked - by another passenger on Crown Princess. If you are still keen to take the tour, my colleague can take you in a separate vehicle and we can meet up at all the locations along the way. He is great fun so it should be an entertaining day all round. You will still get my commentary and wisdom at all the sites! If you are OK with this, I would suggest you book either the Saturday or the Monday on the website and I will add a notice to the booking that it will be Sunday off the Crown Princess." The next day (May 19, 2019) I responded, "I just booked for Monday, September 16, 2019. Please confirm that you will change our reservation to Sunday, September 15, 2019." Fergal responded, "Will do Alan and thank you for booking!" On August 15, 2019, I confirmed the tour with this email: "Just confirming that my wife and I will see you in a month – on Sunday, September 15, 2019." Fergal responded, "Yes indeed Alan, I’ll see you on September 15th as promised." On September 15, 2019, we arrived at the Belfast Port and departed our cruise ship 15 minutes early. When Fergal did not show up, I called him and was surprised by his comments. He did not even have us listed as having a tour on that day. He said something about losing his electronic calendar. He then tells us that he can still do the tour, but we will have to take a taxi from the port to City Hall (at our own expense), where he will meet us 45 minutes later -- an hour after our original departure time. That was the bad part. Once we met Fergal at City Hall to begin our tour, we were very pleased. Fergal is a great tour guide, and we went to many places -- including a great waterfall -- where the big tour buses have no access. All in all, we enjoyed the day with Fergal, even though it began with unnecessary stress.Written 10 October 2019
- Wander7369720 contributionsNorthern Ireland HighlightsI really enjoyed this tour with Fergal. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves guided tours, full of interesting comments made by the nicest guide ever and full of beautiful landscapes. I'll even put a 6-star rating if it existed !! - cbrashear10 contributionsGreat way to see the country! We couldn't have been more pleased with this tour - it was exactly what we were looking for! Great way to see the beautiful countryside with a very knowledgeable tour guide that we enjoyed spending the day with. We didn't want to be stuck on a bus with a ton of strangers and waiting around at sites longer than we wanted. This private tour allowed us to set our own itinerary, tour at our own pace and see things off the beaten track that we wouldn't see on a bus.Written 22 July 2019

We had an exceptional day viewing all of the highlights of the North with a very knowledgeable host in Fergal. We learned so much about the history of the area, but most of all enjoyed hearing about it from someone who has lived in, and loved, this part of the world all his life. Fergal went the extra mile to explain the scenery and provide additional descriptions to me as a blind person which made me feel included in the whole experience and as well, he very competently drove us through towns where my wife's grandmother grew up so that we could get a feel for these areas. Overall, we would recommend this tour to anyone who wants something special and to be able to set your own pace for the day to take in everything this region has to offer. We cannot speak highly enough of Fergal and his consideration of us as tourists.

Hi there Leighton and Rosemary and thanks from the bottom of my heart for these wonderful words on our day together along the Causeway Coast & Glens, the best coastal journey in Ireland (in my opinion anyway). And thank you too for your benevolence in meeting your needs as a blind person. I can only hope that my words almost illustrated the views that we enjoyed. It is also lovely that Rosemary enjoyed our brief, almost rapid travels through Ballymena and Ballymoney and I do hope she got at least a glimpse of how her forebears lived in the early part of the 20th Century. I trust that your onward travels to Derry, Dublin and beyond are equally as immersive and enjoyable. Please do consider me again when you are back in my beautiful part of our Emerald Isle. Go Raibh Maith Agat Mo Chairde.

This was an amazing experience! I booked this online almost 1 year in advance. I told Fergal that we didn't want to see all the touristy places, but rather the true beauty of Ireland on the back roads. He listened and delivered exactly what we wanted!!! He was a fantastic tour guide.
He arrived promptly at our hotel late morning to pick us up. We took a brief drive through Belfast and he did point out some points of interest and history of the city. It was raining and we knew it was supposed to clear up in about an hour so he took us to this little known treasure of a museum - U.S. Ranger Center/Andrew Jackson Center where we learned about the connection of Ireland with the US through Andrew Jackson (originally from Belfast) and how the US Rangers had their beginning in Ireland.
By the time our visit was over at the museum the rain had stopped and we then ventured out of town and spent the day driving through the countryside, along the northern coastline, all the way to Derry and back. We would stop and take pictures along the way and Fergal was great at giving history of the area as well as culture of the Irish. We did visit some castles, the swinging rope bridge (from a distance), the place where CS Lewis got his inspiration for Narnia, and some of the places where they filmed The Game of Thrones. All of it was breathtakingly beautiful.
We stopped for dinner at a local restaurant in Ballycastle (Marconi's Bar and Bistro) where he knew the waitstaff and recommend the best seafood stew. We got the history of the carrier pigeons during WWII as well as the testing Marconi did of "telegraphy without wires" between Ballycastle and Rathlin Island in 1898.
My husband and I highly recommend taking an all day personalized tour with Fergal if you are ever in Belfast Ireland. We had one day to experience as much of Ulster as possible before embarking on a cruise the next day. This was money well spent and probably the highlight of our entire 2 week trip.

Fergal is very personable and a total professional. He has huge depth of knowledge to share and is an excellent tour guide. His vehicle is very comfortable and can obviously negotiate access where a big tour bus could not. The Antrim coast is awesome and a coastal tour is a must do if you are Belfast. We hd a really enjoyable trip and felt so well looked after all the way. Late morning pick up from our hotel on time and dropped back to the door - a private tour is the best way to see the coast and we can highly recommend contacting Fergal if you want to enjoy the best experience,

Fergal was exceptionally knowledgeable and seemed to be able to make small changes in the tour to meet our individual interests. He has a friendly personality, a very comfortable car, and is a good driver. We felt we got a great overview of Northern Ireland. It was well worth the money to have such a personal guided tour—we highly recommend this experience!

This was an exceptional day tour, thanks to the expertise of Fergal, our tour guide. He made our visit to Northern Ireland so much more interesting with the places he took us to. Fergal is well versed in the history and was able to make it come alive with each stop along the tour. He was attentive to our requests and customized the tour while adding relevant suggestions. It was an amazing time exploring the beauty of the region and Fergal provided professional level photo-taking from our cell phone at each stop. Highly recommend Fergal and InSite Tours with no reservation! Totally deserving of a 5/5 Star Review!

Hello again my amazing friends and thank you so much for these wonderful reflections on our day - in fact two days together with our prior Donegal adventure - along our beautiful Causeway Coastal Route. It is always a joy to share the history of my unique part of Ireland with those who share Irish roots and who have a clear bond with the Emerald Isle. It was lovely to meet new friends and to feel so comfortable in your company. Always engaged, inquiring and polite. The best possible guests on my Irish odysseys. I trust that your time in Belfast was equally fulfilling and I look forward to hosting you both again soon. Go raibh maith agat Mo Chara. Safe travels back to Pittsburgh.

We chose this tour b/c of the itinerary AND the reviews of Fergal, the guide. It was a rousing success in both. And all the better with the perfect weather. Set out from our hotel at 11:00 a.m. Fergal took us first to Stormont in Belfast, seat of the gov’t in the North.
Fergal knows his history and puts it across in context, makes it a story, and therefore memorable.
Highlights: Carrickfergus for Andrew Jackson’s family historic site and, especially, the Rangers’ Museum (a MUST).
The Int’l Appalachian Trail spur; Fall of the Hoof (inspiration to CS Lewis); a picnic overlooking the sea; view of the Rope Bridge (view = enough for us); the Giant’s Causeway. Fergal knew that a late-day arrival there is much less crowded.
The day was full to the brim, but leisurely, too. His is a kind and generous person, and he adjusted the sites to a few of our preferences.
The roads are in good shape, but narrow. Would be challenging for the typical American driver, used to the right-hand side of the road. All the more reason to hire this marvelous, expert guide, sit back, and relax.

Hello again Nena and Max and thank you from the bottom of my heart for these wonderful reflections on our day together last week. It was a privilege to show the both of you the highlights of my amazing part of the Emerald Isle and it definitely sparkled in the sunlight on our day out. I am so happy to have introduced you both to the two hidden gems that are the Andrew Jackson Centre and the US Rangers Museum - two off the beaten path histories that few know about and even fewer get to enjoy. I know you were particularly moved by the stories of the fallen US soldiers and I'm sure they would be honoured at your kind words and reflections on their sacrifice. Thank you too for your generous remarks about myself - it cheers me up no end to know that my guests appreciate me personally - and for your wonderful generosity at the end of our trip. I look forward to welcoming you back soon and to sharing more of Ireland with you. Go Raibh Maith Agat Mo Chara!

You have got to take this tour. If you don't take any other tour in Northern Irelanf, take this one. Fergal really makes sure you see what you really want to take on during your tour with him. Let the itinerary be fluid and after meeting up with you he'll take the tour by hand and show you things you didn't even know you wanted to see on your tour. If you want to see something soecific, tell him and he'll accommodate. He is very personable and will joke around with you and have just as much of a good time as you are having. He makes sure during the tour you are getting to see what you want. Anyone can book a 40 person bus trip...... this is not that. For example, he took us to, what I think is the best kept secret of the North and that is Bellintoy Harbor. We did see Giants Causeway, however, the harbor is not crowded and you can see examples of quarry history and giant causeway examples without the crowds, even has a small restuarant, if open, sometimes not, just depends if you hit it at the right time. Just know that some places may not be open when you take his tour, he doesn't have control of when things are open and when they are closed, he can take you to an alternate location, just ask. If you take his tour and your interested in history be sure to ask him what Andrew Jackson and the Rangers (Army, not baseball) have in common. He really makes sure you are having a good time and doesn't clock watch like some of the bigger bus tours, also he can go places the big busses can't get to, like the harbor. Really consider this tour when visiting Northern Ireland.

Hello Kim and Jim. What a great day's craic we all had along our tour route and thank you forever for such an amazing review of our day out together. I want to thank you both for being so much fun and also for your immense generosity throughout and at the end of our day out. I'm still laughing inward at some of Jim's ripostes, including berating you at our pickup for chatting up strange men outside your hotel. Fantastic companionship and friendship that I will cherish forever. I look forward to welcoming you back soon for another adventure and more craic. Safe onward travels my friends. You make what I do a life affirming adventure. Go Raibh Maith Agat (that's Thank You Very Much in Irish).

We were met at the cruise terminal by Fergal. It was great getting into a private vehicle being whisked away instead of an overcrowded bus. Fergal definitely knows the area and is flexible in getting you to places you want to see. He was able to get into areas more timely and knew how to avoid the crowds. The weather was rather cool and windy, but it seems this is more normal climate for the area than we expected for beginning June. The little jackets we had were not enough. Bring a heavier jacket than you think as you can leave it in the car.
One of us got terribly sick and cold (cruise bug or just a plain cold), and Fergal was accommodating by having a spare pullover shirt available to put on for the cold weather. Also, making a quick pit stop at a convenience store for some cold tablets and cough drops to continue our cruise journey. So, yes very accommodating to fit your needs. Very compassionate and ensuring guests are comfortable and welcomed.
This is a fantastic tour and highly recommended. You can see old castles, coastlines and unique features throughout the Irish countryside and coastal areas. Due to time, we had packed so much into one day, we missed lunch or getting a bite to eat. We felt terrible Fergal didn't get a sit-down food break with us and we ended up grabbing some snacks to munch on during the drive. Found out Tayto brand snacks are his favorite, so we had a case sent to him with a nice tip later after the trip for all the extra attention we had during the tour.
If in Northern Ireland, definitely find Fergal at InSite Tours and just go! You will have a fabulous time and memories forever.

So grateful Deb and I had about one bag of those Tayto Cheese and Onion before my wider family devoured them. Come back soon my friends. I'll be happy to host you both on further adventures. Keep Well.

This was our first trip to Ireland and our guide, Fergal, made this an experience we will always remember. The personnel attention provide to us throughout the day was exceptional.
Our main interest was to see the beauty of Ireland outside of the city of Belfast. The sites visited included Carrickfergus Castle, the Andrew Jackson cottage and US Rangers museum, the Barbican of Glenarm Castle, Glenariff water falls, Giants Causeway and Dunluce Castle. Plus a few short stops in between to take in the views. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at O’Connors Bar in BallyCastle. If this sounds like what interests you, then you will not be disappointed.

Thank you also for your fantastic generosity during and the end of our time together. CĂ©ad MĂle Fáilte Mo Chairde!

We recently booked the a full day private tour with Fergal and it was a fanstastic experience. Fergal is friendly and extremely knowledgeable and successfully customized the tour based on our preferences. He took us off the main roads and we were treated to spectacular views and areas only locals know about and he brought us to the Giant's Causeway at the perfect time to avoid the crowds. A special treat was visiting the US Army Rangers museum, which we never knew existed in Ireland! First class all the way and I'd highly recommend this tour and Fergal as a fantastic guide. Worth every bit of extra money we spent to go with a private tour. Highly recommend and looking forward to returning again soon to stunning Ireland!

Hello again Ashley and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful memories of our day together along the Causeway Coastal Route and through the amazing Glens of Antrim. I will be delighted to let George at the Andrew Jackson & US Rangers Museum know how much you enjoyed your visit to that unique place. And thank you also for your massive generosity throughout and at the end of our day together. I really do look forward to the next chapter of our Irish journey with you and your amazing sister. Safe travels my friends in the meanwhile and remember that we will always remain your second home!

Hi there, we would like to book this trip for 2 passengers, in April next year, love all the coastline stops but wondered if it was possible on the way back to Belfast to travel via the Dark hedges and make a short stop for photos. We will be in Belfast city for 3 days. Look forward to your reply, Audrey

I would contact Fergal at InSite Tours via email to info@insite-tours. com directly. Great person and very accommodating on our trip.

Hi I would like to do this tour but by myself is this possible?

We will be a party of four coming off a cruise and spending an extra day in Belfast this August (Covid restrictions willing) . Can the tour be comfortably taken by the four of us (no squeezing across in the back seat)?

Hello - we are interested in taking your tour, but would like to adjust it a bit to proceed clockwise and drop us off in Carrickfergus instead of back in Belfast. Can this be arranged? Is there a way to contact the operator directly?
Written 24 February 2020
I am unsure if this can be accommodated but I suspect it can. I would send an email through Trip Advisor to the operator, it will go directly to Fergal who is the Company Director. Sometimes it takes a day or two for him to respond as he is out with tours.

We are a party of three. 2 adults and our 18 yo daughter. Appears there is availability for 2 people on Tuesday 6 August but not 3 however the trip is described for 2-3 people. Can we book for 3?

I’ve been trying to confirm our pick up location for our tour on Friday, June 28th. I’ve not been able to get a any response by email, tripadvisor messages, or by phone. Could the tour operator please respond?

I believe we have responded. Thanks Kara.

I am only one person, therefore unable to book. If I purchase two tickets, but am only one person, will the tour still proceed?
Written 21 June 2019
Yes, the tour will proceed with only one person. Unfortunately it is not viable for us to provide the tour with just one person, but we will be delighted to accommodate you as a single traveller. Hoping to see you soon!

We're very interested in taking this tour. There are 7 of us; we're wondering if we would all fit or is it a tour bus

I accommodate three in comfort but offer a tour with my colleague Stephen in his Minivan. As you are seven I’m afraid I cannot join you but Stephen will be a more than brilliant host for your trip👍
