          Autumn at the Giant's Causeway
The places we visited in our six-day trip to Northern Ireland exceeded our expectations, beginning with the Giant's Causeway. The weather in early October was perfect, and we were awestruck by the landscape and the natural rock formations. We spent a few hours outdoors taking photos of the vistas, taking photos for other tourists, and exploring the interior building. The gift shop is delightful, with cards, shirts, upscale apparel items and a wide variety of books for all ages. I bought a beautiful silk tie for my husband, two books for grandkids, and an assortment of postcards that I framed when we got home. My son enjoyed walking along the oceanside pillars, while I hiked path along the bottom of the mountainside. Many tourists spent their time climbing the pathway that leads from the beach all the way to the mountain top. Again, the weather was just perfect. This was our number 1 choice to visit in Ulster, and it didn't disappoint. I'm going to write about a few other sites in another review, "Autumn at Dunluce Castle".

Amazing Day seeing everything on our checklist!
We had an amazing day with Nigel. We stopped by Belfast on a cruise and wanted to get as many as the sights in as possible in a day. Nigel did a great job of getting us everywhere in a timely manner and telling us about his country as we went. He made sure we had enough time to enjoy each stop but kept us on schedule for trying to see all the we had prioritized. We did Ballintoy Harbor , Dark Hedges, Giants Causeway, Carrick a Rede bridge, many overlooks and time for a tour at Bushmills with amazing lunch in town and back to our ship in time. I would highly recommend this over large group tours.

          Belfast closer up
Paula showed us many murals and emotive remembrance sites during the two hour tour. She also shared titles iof several films in which the countries feature. An informative and thought provoking trip.

          Abysmal
The biggest waste of money. Being driven around by a completely biased, ill - informed bloke who loved the sound of his own voice and thought we’d like to look at his flash cards whilst parked up at the side of the road in his grubby mini van. Avoid

          Great experience!
This tour took my reservation even as a solo traveller. The "Black Taxi" company canceled on me in the early morning of the day of my tour so I booked these guys the last minute and they came through for me-literally booked at 3am and the tour was at noon. I loved that they offer pick up service, firstly. As well, the guide and driver, Barry, was very friendly and immensely knowledgeable (also has has real life encounters and experience with the history of violence in Belfast). We drove through the city and saw various murals, the peace wall, and memorials. I went in knowing very little about Ireland's history and left feeling like a history major, with all the information Barry shared with me. I even got some tips on my upcoming tours, where to eat/drink, and movies to watch about Ireland. Highly recommend them!

Excellent full day tour of the coast
Exceptional tour. Barry was so friendly and knowledgable. He and went above and beyond to make sure we saw everything we wanted to and more. Yes a private tour is more expensive, but it is 100% worth every penny. Picked up and dropped off from our hotel, we never felt rushed and saw three times as much as we would have done if we had chosen a coach excursion. Would book them again in a heartbeat. Thank you for a brilliant day.

          100% Must Do in Belfast!!!
Paula was our driver and was absolutely incredible. She grew up in Belfast and provided a very deep and rich historical point of view of The Troubles. My wife and I had such a great time with her and did not want the tour to end. Thank you Paula for making us feel so special and welcome in your great city of Belfast. Wishing you all continued peace!

The tour of the walled city and hearing all the history. The explanations of the murals and then seeing them up close was somewhat emotional. We all enjoyed our knowledgeable guide and his insights.

Paula is a spectacular guide through the complex history of Belfast
Paula was spectacular - was truly the best way to see and learn of the history of Belfast. Paula took us to the Eileen Hickey Irish Republican History Museum which was a very cool experience.

Lovely tour with a great Guide. Experienced the past and makes you hope for something better for both sides.
We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Paula. She was delightful, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the whole area and explained everything in depth. Answered many questions we had politely. We walked away better educated about the history of Belfast, the people, and their struggles. You can get a better sense of the those times by being there and "feeling" the atmosphere around those areas Paula drove us to. Being there in person is so much better than learning through books or online. Highly recommend. We are much more appreciative of what the people went through and what it is today. Both sides had it bad, lost so much. Goes to show that man doesn't have the means to rule himself. Need God's kingdom, and the sooner, the better! Thank you to Paula for such an amazing tour.

I learned so much on this day trip to Londonderry
Barry McCann, contacted through Tours by Locals took us on an amazingly informative trip from Belfast to Derry where we learned about Bloody Sunday and the events leading up to and following it. We also learned about life in Derry today. He then took us to a stone circle in County Donegal, an interesting side trip. Barry was informative and transparent. The trip was well organized for maximum tour benefit. I highly recommend this tour and Barry.

Our driver, Paula, was fantastic. She told us all about the Troubles and took us to the important areas that one should see if visiting Belfast and interested in this important time of history. Very knowledgeable guide and enjoyable tour in spite of the pouring rain!

          Giant’s Causeway Tour
We booked the north coast tour with Giant’s Causeway. Nigel was our guide and he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the area and a wealth of information about the history of the region and explained the origin of the Troubles with a very balanced approach. Nigel was very flexible with regard to what we wanted to see and our style of sightseeing. I recommend to limit the scope of your plans because it takes longer to move around the area than it may seem it would. Northern Ireland is beautiful and the people friendly and welcoming. We booked this tour very early but received an email confirming the dates and tour location. The email also indicated we would be contacted just before the date to confirm the time and location of the meeting. As promised we were contacted the day before and everything unfolded as described. So be patient and know your tour is on their books and will move along smoothly. We would recommend this company and Nigel particularly to any of our family and friends; please book with absolute confidence.

Barry was our excellent and well organized tour guide. He began the tour by reviewing Irish history under English rule, The Troubles, and current affairs in Northern Ireland. He used the equivalent of PowerPoint slides (but in paper format) to help explain the history. Although Barry's viewpoint is aligned with the Republicans, his descriptions of England's treatment of Ireland matched what other nonpartisan, Irish tour guides told us. He was enthusiastic and knowledgeable; furthermore, he willingly answered some challenging questions I had about IRA tactics. He took us to all of the important sites. We visited the Republican bookstore. The bookstore is stocked with a vast number Republican-oriented books, including numerous books documenting IRA women leaders, as well as tee shirts and other gift-type items. I recommend visiting the store. I was surprised to discover that the Peace Wall is more like the Berlin Wall. The Peace Wall is 48 feet tall. Note there are other smaller peace walls in Belfast He provided us with pens to sign the wall. The memorial across from the bookstore and the Republican cemetery were highlights. My friend and I learned a lot and had a good time.

Barry was terrific all the way astound! He picked us up at our hotel early Sunday morning, right away got into the subject with engaging energy, information, insightful dialogue and discussion. He seemed to be genuinely sharing his experience and perspective, while seeking ours…. He also dropped us off a ways from our pick up spot which was our next destination 😊 and then followed up with links & more information as he promised…. Was a great experience! Thank you 🙏

If anyone wants an insight into Ireland’s history then you must not miss this tour. Focusing on Ireland’s early history, the troubles and up to the present day. Our guide Barry whose knowledge and experience was first class will take you to places your average tour won’t go.He will also tell you if his own experiences of the troubles and his hopes for the future. If you really want to know the true events of what happened from the late sixties up to the good Friday agreement then you should go on this tour. Absolutely first class and well worth the money. Thanks Barry for a fantastic experience. Top Bloke.

I was looking for something different, facts, experience and nuance. I was not disappointed. Barry began the discussion by taking Ireland back to Pre-Christian times and St Patrick casting Paganism from this island. Excellent few hours. I thought I knew a bit but was blown away by what has been kept from me by the 'client media'. Cant recommend enough.

This tour was everything I had hoped for and more. Barry was very knowledgeable about the local history and took the time to help me locate my own family plot at Milltown. Excellent tour and would recommend to anyone who wants to have a real understanding of Belfast, now and then.

If you want the real deal and the whole story then this is your trip. Barry was a great guide, very passionate and great in explaining how everything started to where we are today. We went on the on off bus which was good but nothing in comparison to this tour. If you are looking for a true account then don’t miss this trip. Barry takes you in to the heart of it explaining certain events in history along the way. We finished in the Cemetery which is beautifully kept in memory of the brave men and women who gave up their lives for freedom. Would definitely recommend.

If you are looking for a passionate and informed Republican perspective, this is the tour you want. Barry was flexible and easy to work with, we came up for the day from Dublin just for this tour and it was well worth it. Our train was delayed, but he was there waiting for us when we arrived.

He is willing to stop or go to any places of interest, for example, I had read "Say Nothing" about the troubles a few years back and he took me to see Dolours Prices Grave.

As an American The Northern Irish accent was a bit difficult at times, but he was more then patient with us and willing to repeat himself till we got the point!

The tours is expensive, but it was the highlight of my trip to Ireland. Highly recommend.

Being in my 60's, I have a recollection of the conflicts happening in the 80's from news reports in the USA. After looking at several tour descriptions (10 min here, then 10 minutes there), I felt I really wanted a full understanding from a local person that lived this, not just a driver that pointed out spots to take a picture. The tour Barry gave was probably the most insightful afternoon I have spent in a long time. I left the day with an entirely new perspective on the issues in Belfast. If you want to just have a few pictures that say you've been there... take a short tour... but if you really want to know the IRA conflicts... this is the only one your should take.

For those interested in Irish history, the “Troubles,” and a better understanding of the current political approach towards a united Ireland, this is the tour for you. Barry was an excellent guide, extremely knowledgeable of the past and current issues, and willing to answer questions.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in Ireland’s past, present, and future!
