Great tour. Well worth the money.
The Conflicting History Walking Tour was an outstanding experience and great value for money. We began at the Divis Flats, where we were guided by a passionate Republican, and then ventured through the Peace Lines into the Shankill, where a knowledgeable Loyalist took over the tour. Both guides were deeply passionate and insightful, offering unique perspectives on their respective histories and cultures. This tour is truly well worth the price and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Belfast.

    Extremely meaningful experience
This was an incredibly moving and enlightening experience. Our 2 guides, Frank and Micky, took turns taking us around the segregated areas of Belfast and providing us with their personal stories of the conflict. They presented a hopeful perspective as they are now friends despite having grown up as enemies.

    Belfast Conflicting Stories Political Tour
This is an absolute must for anyone visiting Ireland. Padraig ( ex IRA and former political prisoner) and Mark ( ex British Army, Ulster Defence Regiment) told us their own personal experiences and their respective communities versions off Irish history giving us a fascinating and vivid insight into Troubles. Both guides answered questions in depth and stimulated lively discussions. I would give this tour 6 stars.

    Respectful and Educational
This review is VERY late - but the tour deserves some praise. We went in November of 2019 - but the drop down menu wouldn't give me that option. My husband and I took a trip to Ireland and wanted to educate ourselves more so we booked this tour. Though the history is complicated, the tour was very respectful and educational. It did not shy away from the past. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone with or without knowledge of Irelands history.

Absolutely excellent, thorough account of NI politics in the Troubles. This tour is so unique in that it’s personal life stories from both sides. It also considers the future. Thank you

Extraordinary Tour Navigating Belfast’s War Torn Past
This tour was extraordinary. Even though the two guides are from very different communities they complement each other perfectly. If you are interested in history, politics, tribalism, propaganda and Britain’s role in the conflict this tour is a must. I am hoping there will be many variations of this tour so I can gain further insight into Belfast’s infamous war torn past. Would highly recommend.

Best first introduction to Belfast and its troubled history
For somebody coming cold to Belfast and to the Troubles, this is the way to get your first introduction to it. It was an unvarnished view, we felt that both guides were candid with us, and we walked away with a better understanding than we started with. Both guides, Jared and Frankie were very open to answering all of our questions, big and small. They were straightforward about their experiences.

A fly on the wall view from both sides
Totally unique experience being guided through the Nationalist and Loyalist areas of Belfast. Our guides, Michael and Mark were absolutely brilliant and had an unrivalled knowledge from both sides which was fascinating; they were both very engaging and friendly. Michael picked us up and Mark dropped us off at our Hotel which was very kind. (It was pouring with rain!) An absolute must for any tourist that wants to see a warts and all description of the political tensions in Belfast. Thank you both for a great tour.

An interesting insight with 2 different perspectives. Hard hitting. Who’s perspectives do you believe, or is it somewhere in between - or neither. Creates a debate well after the tour. Let’s hope the future is more positive than the past.

    What an experience!
We chose to take this taxi tour in order to learn a little more about the “Troubles” and what an eye opener it was! Having been aware of the ongoing problems between the different peoples of Northern Ireland and believing the the Good Friday Agreement had resulted in peace we were very surprised to find that the “Peace Wall” still exists in Belfast and stretches for over 5 km dividing the Loyalist and Unionist communities and that the gates within the wall are locked from 7pm to 6am daily. We had a Unionist guide for the first part of the tour and a Loyalist guide for the second part and boy did their stories differ. We can thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone who would like to learn more about Northern Ireland politics.

    Brilliant
Great tour with Michael who talked us through the areas and the conflict. Well known in his local area as a orator of the troubles. Mark was also informative from a local perspective. Narrating us through some terrible times. A worth while tour.

    Well worth the experience
Micheal our tour guide was highly informative and entertaining. The tour was very educational amd I would highly recommend. If your lucky enough to get Micheal as your tour guide you will not he dissapointed. It says the tour was an hour but Micheal was not rushed and it lasted about 90mins. Thanks for an amazing experience.

    Fascinating personal accounts
This is a brilliant tour because you get to hear two sides of the same story, from two people who lived on either side of the Peace Wall. We started on the Falls Road with Gerard, a Republican who was a former IRA volunteer and served two stints in jail for his part within that organisation. He explained the context for the beginnings of the Republican movement in Northern Ireland, and how and why he got involved in the IRA, and how people in the Republican community felt at that time. Gerard is a really compelling speaker and is happy to answer any questions you might have. On the other side of the wall, Mark (a former soldier), showed us the Peace wall and the gates which divide the two communities, which are still shut every night - something we found very surprising. His perspective gave great insight into the consequences of the troubles on his community, and the fear many unionists lived with at the time. He also shared some of the work he is doing to try and bring children from different communities together. All in all, both guides gave a unique and well articulated perspective on the history and future of their respective communities. This was a highlight of our trip to Northern Ireland - would highly recommend.

I went on the Belfast taxi tour - conflicting stories and would highly recommend the tour ..... Due to covid the walking tour wasn’t available so we chose the taxi tour and I am really glad we had this option. The tour started with Paul - ex prisoner who had served 12 years for his involvement during the troubles in Ireland back in the 70’s/80’s and was very passionate and knowledgable about how the ‘troubles’ have shaped west Ireland today. He spoke about the people he shared time with in prison and how the hunger strikes affected the outcome of many of the prisoners fighting for what they believed to be the truth at that time. He clearly felt the English Army fought unfairly and lives were lost for this reason. Paul didn’t try and persuade - he just clearly and informatively gave his side of a very very troubled story. I grew up in a world where I was taught the IRA bombed and killed without thought of their consequences - will Paul change your mind? We then passed through some huge gates and parked beside the Peace Wall to meet Mark - an ex British Army Solider and MI5 employee and how the story changed. He again was amazingly knowledgable and clearly loved protecting Ireland .... a really lovely family man who had been through an awful ordeal and nearly lost everything for what he believed in. He explained the divide in Ireland and how, despite lots of hard work, the inground memories will almost stop change ever happening. The PEACE WALL! - I shudder to call this the peace wall as clearly there is no peace in this part of Ireland. These people use different school, different shops, different pubs, different banks - the list goes on ..... peace almost doesn’t exist and this amazing tour will explain the reasons why. I loved the tour but have the admit that I have come away feeling even more confused. Maybe that is the real point. Maybe coming away to research and think about what you have been told is a good thing. Not to accept the past but explore the reasons it all happened.

This was a really informative and interesting tour. Our first guide Gerard was my favourite of the two. He took us round the catholic side of the wall, telling his personal story as well as that of others. It was clear how well liked and known he is in the community as many adults and children waved and greeted him.
Our second guide (on the Protestant side) was a lot less positive but still informative and enjoyable.
The start of the tour is about a 30 minute walk from the town centre and the tour itself takes 3 hours but is a manageable walking pace with many stops along the way.

A fantastic walking tour which myself, husband and 15 year old son really enjoyed. It was interesting to hear both sides from individuals who had lived experiences. I do not think I appreciated how separate the two sides of West Belfast continue to live and this tour definitely highlighted this. I would recommend this tour to individuals visiting Belfast not only do you get a deeper understanding of the historical troubles you can also see how in today's society the city remains split. Thank you to both tour guides.

An excellent and informative tour from two individuals on opposing sides of the wall, so to speak. We picked about the wettest day of the year for our tour, but we still enjoyed it.
Our second guide was loud and clear but many people struggled to hear the first guide. His microphone was rubbish and most of his stops were along a busy main road. A better microphone and/or stopping strategy would be a vast improvement. It's the only reason I dropped a star off the rating.
The only other issue was that there were no loo stops, which on a 3 hour tour might be a problem for some.

Such an interesting afternoon. We went as a family with teens through to adults and it was a great way to learn the real history of the area and country from the people that had lived it. Offering both perspectives meant you got to understand each sides experience and both our guides were excellent. Would highly recommend taking the time for this tour when visiting Belfast to get a real sense of the people and their city.

The tour was very well done and educational. We appreciated the opportunity to hear a balanced narrative and to understand a little more the roots of the continuing conflict. I would definitely recommend this tour for those who want to listen to better understand.

This was an enlightening experience. The walk was 3 hours, but it flew by. The close up look at different historic sights and the stories shared by our guides gave me so much to research and learn.

Our guide for the first part through Falls Road was very considerate and genuinely open to all questions. As an educator myself, I observed his efforts to create a tour for learning and dialogue. His personal anecdotes and emphasis on local and historical context provided a generative atmosphere to think for ourselves.

I will never forget this experience.

We enjoyed our tour although it was an experience to say the least , the first half was engaging and interesting view of the republican side of things we saw murals and heard the accounts of that side in a friendly and positive manner despite some of the horrible events that transpired .
The second half we expected the same but from the opposing stance , however we where treated to a 15 minuet speech focusing on Ira bombings going into the grizzliest of details before we began , this is understandable and kind of what we came for but the manner was aggressive at the least . The tour devolved from there going into twisted viewpoint and ending with blatant propaganda on how the Labour Party are the same as the ira and the same from isis. Having said this I would still recommend but be aware of the second half it got very scary quickly and does not paint the future of norther island in a good light .

As with many reviewers we had Robert and Mark as our guides. We found Robert to be a very easy person to like and engage with. His stories brought me to tears on several occasions as he seems to genuinely want a peaceful solution for all. Mark was very informative but his story felt less personal and more negative. I sort of ‘get’ why this would be but it did make the second half of the tour harder to engage fully with. I’d have been interested to hear Marks back story. As a completely neutral Scottish lady who grew up in the 70s this tour was really enlightening as when you are a child watching a one sided narrative of what’s going on in the British press it can be hard to fully appreciate both sides of the story. So thank you to both Robert and Mark for telling your stories and giving a little more perspective.

Starting from the Republican area, going through murals and IRA roots.
Then the second part with a British guide, who supported his own cause too.
It has definitely been an outstanding tour, you can breathe the troubles era, touching both reasons to have a United Ireland or keep staying under the union Jack flag.
When you reach the wall and the gate, honestly you will feel something in your belly, regardless of supporting one or the other part.

I wasn't sure it was worth paying this money but honestly I am glad I chose this walk.
Mind you, there will be worrying and depressing topics, emotionally charged tales, but definitely it's very interesting.
You will listen to a ex IRA prisoner on one side of the wall and then cross the gate and a British army person will lead the secon part of the talk (possibly in the opposite order, but still).
Both of them have a very different point of view and will tell you the facts in very different ways. Both of them had very traumatic experiences.
You will understand where each of them is coming from and also realise how far the peace process still is.
Just listen to both with empathy and without judging and you will learn a lot.
