- stevehJ6545JY0 contributionsUnbiased, and Enlightening, Still Captivating throughout a Cold DayA potted history from the Battle of the Boyne to the Modern day was the start of our Tour with Mylie. I Would recommend anyone to go, even with a strong knowledge of the Troubles our guide gave us so much more information on Belfast and its history. Mylie was brilliant and gave us plenty to research when we got home, we hope to return again and maybe venture outside the main City.Written 13 January 2025
- Tezzybear0 contributionsPowerful and PassionateOf the many historical tours in Belfast, this is a standout. Mylie's passion and knowledge shone throughout the walk as she expertly covered multiple perspectives on the Troubles, and the aspirations for the community. The audio sets were a welcome addition, enduring we didn't have to compete with the traffic to hear everything. Would highly recommend this good history buffs and complete novices alike.Written 13 January 2025

- W2971ARleol0 contributionsSimply AmazingSteve is a scholar and deserves a national medal. He is so good at his job and, for much of the tour, I was distracted by his knowledge, eloquence, and excellent storytelling. I don’t have the best attention span and, despite being cold, needing to pee, and feeling hungry (not a great combo), I couldn’t stop listening. Based on other reviews here, it looks like Steve has been doing this tour for some time, but yet still manages to bring so much passion. I was debating whether to do this tour or a non-troubles walking tour (offered by a competitor). I chose this even though it was slightly more expensive, and really made the right choice. I learned so much and it was worth every penny. He talks a lot, but everything that comes out of his mouth was interesting. If you’re in search of a walking tour, look no further. This is it…and have your fingers crossed that you’ll get Steve.Written 30 December 2024
- davidwH5512PN0 contributionsA Terrifically Trouble-free TourI really enjoyed this tour. Our guide was Mylie, and she was great. She is an American without a strong accent, so very easy to understand. This is important because she provided a long and interesting history of the Troubles and the relationship between Great Britain and Ireland. One small tip for Mylie: give the tourists a few opportunities to ask questions. The walk was a good length, and we visited very interesting places, supplemented by historical photos Mylie showed us. I highly recommend this tour!Written 29 December 2024
- celiacR7053KN0 contributionsA must do in BelfastOur guide Jim was fantastic. He was so interesting and his knowledge was astounding. He has a gift for conveying the terror and heartbreak of an awful time in his county’s history, whilst showing compassion for all sides and positivity for the future. Jim gave us a personal viewpoint of the troubles, and reminded us of the individual stories and the trauma that so many still live with. Thank you Jim, we were very moved.Written 28 December 2024
- L4315GHandrewr0 contributionsTerror teaches us to live without it and to choose love instead. We all need this tour. Taking us from the planting by Henry VIII to the Good Friday Agreement of the late 1990s. Cause and effect. Jim, our guide, lived through it. He spin the story brilliantly, chronologically, with humour, tact and bloody real tragedy. If you are British, American, Israeli or just a human being with a thirst for understanding, DC deliver the facts. There were the personal terrors: the butchers! There were heartfelt horrors born from famine and revenge. But overall we were exposed to the age old truth: violence fails in the end, only consent, understanding and love will ever provide security. Thank you Jim. ARWritten 28 December 2024
- AmyJoan7790 contributionsGreat optionEnjoyed this tour a lot. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared a crash course of Belfast history in a very clear and easy to understand way. On top of that it was stacked with interesting stories and facts on various locations within the city center.Written 27 December 2024
- susanbT814SY0 contributionsLearned so muchJames was a fabulous guide… in addition to the fact he appeared to have memorised all our names - in itself, quite a feat - he also made the whole tour feel very personal.. whilst remaining impartial. Honestly, considering this was my first walking tour ever in my whole life, I could not have been happier.. just brilliant. I was already interested in the subject, now I want to go and find out more 😊. PS Thank you, James, for alerting me to the film Good Vibrations - will now go and seek it out.Written 22 December 2024

- ukamybrown0 contributionsBook this tour now!Steve was a superb guide! My teenage daughter, my mom and I all felt this tour alone was worth the trip to Belfast. I learned so much, having always wanted to understand the context that led to the Troubles. Steve packed 800 years of history into a riveting few hours that flew by, helped me understand the distant and recent past. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Written 19 December 2024
- michaelbN3528IW0 contributionsThought Provoking Tour on Belfast's TroublesAn excellent snapshot of the early part of the Troubles in Belfast. The tour involved some historical context and visiting significant landmarks where some of the violence was at it's worst. Chris was an excellent guide and he was reasonable impartial on such an emotive topic. The tour was well paced without being too long. The use of headsets was a nice welcome and made it easier to engage with Chris/the tour. Well worth doing the next time in Belfast.Written 17 December 2024

We were fortunate enough to do two separate walking tours whilst in Belfast in early July 2021, both led by Paul at DC Tours; the "Best of Belfast" tour and a West Belfast tour.
I really can't recommend Paul enough; he was absolutely fantastic and one of the best tour guides I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. From the moment we met he was polite, friendly, personable and professional. Throughout the tours (both of which were on well-planned, interesting routes) Paul was incredibly informative, answering questions and describing the history and people of Belfast in a detailed and engaging way.
Throughout both tours, we very much appreciated the balanced and objective approach he took. He explained and set out different perspectives, whilst speaking with sensitivity and in a way that demonstrated his real pride in the city.
He is the perfect ambassador for Belfast and both of our tours were wonderful ways to better understand and appreciate this fantastic city. For completeness, I'd also flag that at all stages of the booking process the wider DC Tours team were also professional, efficient and helpful.
I really can't recommend Paul and the DC Tours team enough and would encourage all visitors to Belfast to take advantage of the brilliant service they offer.

Excellent tour highly recommend to learn the Rich history of the city and to also see the best places to visit in more depth and where best to eat. The Tour guide Steve Malone's extensive knowledge, enthusiasm and unbiased view really brings the city to life. Best part of our visit, can not recommend it enough.

What an amazing walking tour of Belfast!
I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city either if it is your first and tenth time. James has outstanding knowledge of the city, architecture and history - you cannot stop listening to him.
Thank you for having us and we will definitely try the other tour next time we are in Belfast.

We wanted to do a tour of Belfast as we knew little about the city in advance. We were in a small group which made it easy to see and ask questions. As you would expect our tour guide, Steve, was friendly, knowledgable and witty. The walk was an easy couple of miles around the city centre with a small break roughly halfway through. It is noisy in the city centre and therefore we were given radio ear pieces to hear the guide more clearly. This is not something we were used to but it worked well. The ear pieces allowed us to easily socially distance and meant the guide didn’t have to shout which made the tour quite subtle (the radios and earpieces were completely clean and sealed when we received them). It was a great tour which was interesting from start to finish. An added bonus was having some of the Line of Duty filming locations pointed out to us on the way round.

Having done quite a number of different tours in Belfast over the years, this was by far the best tour I've been on. Our guide Steve was well informed, interesting and full of witty insights and stories. We got to discover many new parts of the city. Steve's accounts of Belfast's history were very interesting to listen to during the 2-2.5 hour walk around the city centre. This was a local's story of the city and its past.
Highly recommended!

I signed up for a 10 am Sunday morning tour with DC Tours in Belfast. My guide was Steve and he was incredible. When the rest of my party decided to sleep in, I had the pleasure of walking through Dublin with Steve watching the City wake up, while listening to stories that included facts, data. and quotes, but were notable for the way Steve brought the history of the city and its people to life. At my request, the tour focused on the "troubles." Steve's flexibility and knowledge made clear that he was not "performing" a canned tour. Steve's depth of knowledge and the addition of some personal anecdotes made the time fly by. The information was fascinating and well delivered. Next time I am in Belfast, I will definitely sign up for another of this company's tours.

We had an absolutely fantastic time on the Best of Belfast Walking Tour. As this was our first visit to Belfast the tour was invaluable in helping us to understand the history of the city, which really enriched our whole stay. One of our party had been living in Belfast for the past few years and even he learnt so much about where he lived in. Our guide Steve was very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. He could answer every question we could think to ask and more, and his witty commentary made the tour even more fun. A top guy! I would definitely recommend the Dead Centre walking tours to anyone visiting Belfast.

Although we had previously spent a half day by ourselves in the Cathedral Quarter of the City, this tour added so much more in the way of history, information and understanding and is thoroughly recommended. Our guide, Steve, drew our attention to things we had not previously noticed or understood and provided a fascinating commentary on the history of Belfast from its very beginnings, up to and including recent TV filming locations, whilst weaving in aspects of social history and individual people whose beliefs and actions had big impacts. There was also some insight into lesser-known circumstances surrounding the Titanic disaster. As a group of people from England, we had certainly never been taught much of this history in school! Finding a couple of hours in your schedule to join this tour is one of the top things to do in Belfast.

Did a Belfast walking tour with James this month, really excellent few hours. Lived in Belfast all my life and didn't expect to learn anything but was amazed to find out I was wrong - I've been walking past things for years without actually seeing them! James provided a really excellent, perfectly balanced summary of the earliest history of the city, up to the present day, and all delivered with an easy manner and a generous sense of humour! The earpieces provided were a boon, as you didn't have to keep right behind him to hear what he was saying. Covid precautions were excellent, and we finished off with lunch in a city centre pub. A very relaxing and informative morning... considering doing another tour with these guys now, since they do seem to know what they're talking about!
