A potted history from the Battle of the Boyne to the Modern day was the start of our Tour with Mylie. I Would recommend anyone to go, even with a strong knowledge of the Troubles our guide gave us so much more information on Belfast and its history. Mylie was brilliant and gave us plenty to research when we got home, we hope to return again and maybe venture outside the main City.

Of the many historical tours in Belfast, this is a standout. Mylie's passion and knowledge shone throughout the walk as she expertly covered multiple perspectives on the Troubles, and the aspirations for the community. The audio sets were a welcome addition, enduring we didn't have to compete with the traffic to hear everything. Would highly recommend this good history buffs and complete novices alike.

Excellent tour. James was so knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. This was one of the best tours we’ve done and we learnt such a lot. I would highly recommend this tour. James remembered our names too! 5 stars!!

I would highly recommend this tour, it was very informative & interesting. The time flew by & the guide was very engaging. I did feel that at times he wasn’t impartial with his rhetoric.

Steve is a scholar and deserves a national medal. He is so good at his job and, for much of the tour, I was distracted by his knowledge, eloquence, and excellent storytelling. I don’t have the best attention span and, despite being cold, needing to pee, and feeling hungry (not a great combo), I couldn’t stop listening. Based on other reviews here, it looks like Steve has been doing this tour for some time, but yet still manages to bring so much passion. I was debating whether to do this tour or a non-troubles walking tour (offered by a competitor). I chose this even though it was slightly more expensive, and really made the right choice. I learned so much and it was worth every penny. He talks a lot, but everything that comes out of his mouth was interesting. If you’re in search of a walking tour, look no further. This is it…and have your fingers crossed that you’ll get Steve.

I really enjoyed this tour. Our guide was Mylie, and she was great. She is an American without a strong accent, so very easy to understand. This is important because she provided a long and interesting history of the Troubles and the relationship between Great Britain and Ireland. One small tip for Mylie: give the tourists a few opportunities to ask questions. The walk was a good length, and we visited very interesting places, supplemented by historical photos Mylie showed us. I highly recommend this tour!

Our guide Jim was fantastic. He was so interesting and his knowledge was astounding. He has a gift for conveying the terror and heartbreak of an awful time in his county’s history, whilst showing compassion for all sides and positivity for the future. Jim gave us a personal viewpoint of the troubles, and reminded us of the individual stories and the trauma that so many still live with. Thank you Jim, we were very moved.

We all need this tour. Taking us from the planting by Henry VIII to the Good Friday Agreement of the late 1990s. Cause and effect. Jim, our guide, lived through it. He spin the story brilliantly, chronologically, with humour, tact and bloody real tragedy. If you are British, American, Israeli or just a human being with a thirst for understanding, DC deliver the facts. There were the personal terrors: the butchers! There were heartfelt horrors born from famine and revenge. But overall we were exposed to the age old truth: violence fails in the end, only consent, understanding and love will ever provide security. Thank you Jim. AR

Enjoyed this tour a lot. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and shared a crash course of Belfast history in a very clear and easy to understand way. On top of that it was stacked with interesting stories and facts on various locations within the city center.

James was a fabulous guide… in addition to the fact he appeared to have memorised all our names - in itself, quite a feat - he also made the whole tour feel very personal.. whilst remaining impartial. Honestly, considering this was my first walking tour ever in my whole life, I could not have been happier.. just brilliant. I was already interested in the subject, now I want to go and find out more 😊. PS Thank you, James, for alerting me to the film Good Vibrations - will now go and seek it out.

Steve was a superb guide! My teenage daughter, my mom and I all felt this tour alone was worth the trip to Belfast. I learned so much, having always wanted to understand the context that led to the Troubles. Steve packed 800 years of history into a riveting few hours that flew by, helped me understand the distant and recent past. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

An excellent snapshot of the early part of the Troubles in Belfast. The tour involved some historical context and visiting significant landmarks where some of the violence was at it's worst. Chris was an excellent guide and he was reasonable impartial on such an emotive topic. The tour was well paced without being too long. The use of headsets was a nice welcome and made it easier to engage with Chris/the tour. Well worth doing the next time in Belfast.
